"Ouch!"
"Ah, Meng Bao!" I was surprised when Meng Bao's hand under my hand twitched. I saw blood seeping out of Meng Bao's index finger. "I—I'm sorry!" I immediately told him to drop the knife and then held his hand to check on the cut.
It was not a deep cut, thankfully, "Thank god, I thought I accidentally sliced your finger!"
"N—No, it's okay, Jie, it's just a cut—" Meng Bao was silenced when I suddenly put his index finger on my mouth and sucked the blood out. I spit the blood to the sink and then hurriedly take out the first aid box.
I took out antiseptic and poured some on the cut, then wrapped the cut with a cute plaster with duck motive.
Meng Bao stared at me attentively. He kept staring and then asked, "Jie, it's just a small cut. You are acting too much. It will heal on its own."
"It's not about that," I replied. "Maybe it's just my habit. I've been taking care of my two little sisters and my cousin since they were kids. I got worried the most when they got hurt, so I'm usually the one who got concerned the most."
"Also, there is one little girl… whom I cared so much. She is a strong girl, one time, she came to me full of cuts on her hand. She said that she was playing alone in her grandma's garden and accidentally slipped. Her hand hit a cactus. She said it hurt, but after that, she just looked at it and then shrugged it off."
"I was so panicked that she didn't even budge after I pointed out her cuts. So I treated her, and I kept asking her if she was okay," I laughed when I remembered MengMeng, who was so strong but was actually so softhearted when she was around me. "Since I kept asking her, she started crying and wailing, saying it hurts so much and she wants me to treat her wound."
---
'Wuaaaa! Batman-Jie, it hurts so much, wuuwuuu!' MengMeng cried loudly while I was treating her wound as Batman-Jie.
'Aish, why are you crying right now? You didn't cry at all when you meet me here with these cuts!' I yelled at her. But it made her cried even louder.
'WUAAAA! B—Because Batman-Jie is here, I want you to treat me, and um… um… that…'
'What?' I asked.
'I—If Batman-Jie gives MengMeng a kiss, I think I will be okay,' MengMeng said carefully.
I laughed at her, 'You kid! I know it doesn't hurt that much for you, but you just want my kiss, right?'
MengMeng innocently nodded, waiting for her kiss.
---
I recalled the memory of my childhood and chuckled. I looked at Meng Bao and felt a similar gaze from him, just like how MengMeng stared at me. I was influenced by the atmosphere between us. I had a thin smile on my face.
"You know what I did to her back then?" I said. Meng Bao was staring at me intensively, but he seemed to be patiently waiting for something.
I drew closer, used my hand to brush Meng Bao's hair up, and then kissed his forehead, "It's okay, my kiss will heal all your pain."
Meng Bao's face reddened, and then he accidentally blurted something that probably came out of his heart.
"You are like my childhood sweetheart, whom I loved the most…"
I froze on the spot. I looked at Meng Bao, who kept staring at me, but it was obvious that he was staring at imagining me as someone else, not Shi Ying. It ruined the atmosphere, and I got up to clear my head.
"Don't imagine another woman when there is a woman in front of you. That's hurtful and rude, Meng Bao," I said curtly.
Meng Bao seemed to realize that he blurted something unnecessary again. He got up and shook his head immediately, "A—Ah, I'm sorry, Jie. I didn't mean to—"
"No, it's okay, we just have a professional relation here as a rental boyfriend and client. Sorry for making you uncomfortable," I washed my hand again and continued chopping some more vegetables.
"Jie, I didn't mean to—"
"You can go and sit on the couch," I said.
Meng Bao looked lost, but this was a sign that I didn't want to talk about it. So he just sat on the couch, but he kept staring at me from the couch.
Honestly, I did get jealous when Meng Bao compared me to another woman. And that woman was someone from years ago when Meng Bao was still a kid! I'm not a replacement for someone he liked years ago.
After I prepared the ingredients for a Hotpot. I took out a small stove, put it on the dinner table, then turned it on. I placed the boiling pan, and after everything was ready, I took out my apron and yelled at the man who had been staring at me like a creep, "Meng Bao, the food is ready."
Meng Bao approached me carefully, like approaching a tiger. "Can I really eat? I can leave now if you want…"
"Aish, do you think I can eat all this? Eat with me!" I yelled at him.
He gulped and then sat at the dinner table. I put some beef, chicken, tofu, and vegetables inside while Meng Bao was just watching.
"What are you looking at? Go eat ah," I said.
"Jie, are you mad at me?"
"Huh? For what?"
"For comparing you to another woman…"
I rolled my eyes.
'This guy was really a softie, huh? In this era of overbearing men, will there be someone who loves a soft man like him?'
"Meng Bao, why are you acting like a little boy? I'm not your mother that you need to be afraid of—"
"—I'm not afraid of my mother, though." Meng Bao snipped quickly to deny it.
"Well, I'm not your father that you need to be afraid of—"
"—I'm not afraid of my father either."
"Seriously? Are you not afraid of anyone?!"
"No, but rather than afraid… I am usually trying to be very gentle and act as cute as possible, so this one girl will not get mad at me. Because when she is mad, I feel like my world would crumble…"
"Don't tell me it's your childhood sweetheart again?" I asked again. Though, I already know the answer, of course.
Meng Bao replied with a nod, and it worsened my mood. 'It's okay, Shi Ying, you are getting emotional for no reason. Meng Bao is not your boyfriend or anything. Maybe he has a girlfriend already. And even if he is single, he will not date you. So suck it up, and act like an adult.'
"You don't need to be scared of me, you know. Just treat me as your rental boyfriend client that you will forget later," I said.
Meng Bao shook his head reluctantly, "Jie, the thing is… I'm scared that I might forget about my childhood sweetheart instead..."
