Policewoman dies upholding her values that have been passed on by her mentor and is reincarnated in the world of Pokémon with no cheats and knowledge of the games or anime but even that had not been that helpful to her in her new duties. After many losses of her Pokémon, many injuries and finally a death, she somehow finds herself back to the time of the officer exams where she received her first Pokémon. Twice engulfed in flames, twice dying for the cause and facing hardships but before her second death, she declared. ‘No more! If I survive this then I will no longer live like this!’ When she awoke, she decided to no longer stick to her principles that were taught to her by her mentor as it only brought her pain and she did not receive what she had earned through her self sacrifice. I do not claim to own Pokémon, its plot or characters but there are some changes I may make to the original story and add my own characters. Choice and Reunited

Kimi Jenny had been born out of wedlock according to what she had found out in her previous life and still had a father.

She had very few friends but a couple of rivals or enemies within the Jenny family as she was a target for bullying due to her status and lower rank within the family.

Kimi was very physically fit as she trained her body often as she prepared herself for the test that every Jenny would have to undergo at the age of ten.

Just as trainers can begin their journey at the age if ten, it was similar for those within the Jenny family as they get their first Pokémon during or before the family test begins.

Those in higher families would gain a high quality and personally picked Pokemon by their family and have a longer time to train with it so they would be able to get ahead of others when preparing for the test.

Those that would attend the test without a Pokémon would have to pick from three random Pokéballs and once they had chosen, they would be unable to take it back.

Kimi had spent a long time adjusting so she picked randomly without much thought but she found that her partner was difficult to bond with, which made the difficulty of her getting a decent grade on the tests even higher.

She sat in contemplation while everyone was receiving their first Pokémon. 'So long as nothing changes then I should choose from the same three. Although there is one good choice which I know will be beneficial in the long run… it will be difficult if I wish to obtain a higher result in the test.'

Kimi then decided. 'A high score does not matter anyways, nobody expects it of me and I can use this as an opportunity to bond. Even if I get a higher score, I will most likely be assigned to the same location as before since the best places are already booked. What I need to decide is… do I want to continue as a cop and use the position as a cover or do I want to give it up completely and focus solely on my own benefits?'

She was facing a dilemma over which she would choose since it determined how she would operate in the future and her overall alignments. 'Then there is that design. It is not something that can be built without funding and it needs someone with the ability to understand it. However that can be left for later and I can just have some of the parts commissioned separately to avoid suspicion.'

A voice interrupted her thoughts. "Kimi… is there a Kimi?"

She then stood up and walked forward as the person explained. "There are three to choose from, make sure that you pick carefully since it will determine your future partner. Although your choice is mostly affected by chance, it is wise to follow your heart or your feelings so that you can have a higher chance of choosing one compatible with you."

Kimi then began to remember the one she had chosen along with the ones that had been taken by others later. 'If I remember correctly then what was available for each person was three types of Pokémon. One was a dog type good for tracking and combat, a binding or trapping type and then finally a water type for putting out fires but there would occasionally be some additional variations.'

Most officers require a certain companion that could handle various tasks that were very much needed so usually a dog was considered the best for their first Pokémon but there were other options for different situations and preferences.

She was currently living in the Kanto region in Veridian City so most other Pokémon from other regions were difficult to obtain unless they were imported but the Jenny family were a worldwide family so they had greater resources.

Those who were mostly used for those that were considered as a greater importance to raise would be prioritised for Pokémon from other regions and those of a higher rarity or talents.

While it was important to have a good tracker for search and rescue missions, it was also a requirement for an officer to be prepared for all kinds of situations like capturing criminals, putting out fires, moving fallen debris and many others so a balanced team was required.

One of those roles would be filled by the first gifted Pokémon within the Jenny family test so Kimi did not need to worry about preparing a suitable partner for her future activities.

Kimi reached out her hand and then picked the middle one as she had the previous time. "I choose this one."

"Good, what did you choose?"

Kimi released the Pokémon and a small flash of light took place as a small figure appeared in front of her. 'We meet again.'

It had orange fur with black stripes along its back and legs.

The fur on its muzzle, chest, belly, and tail was beige, as was an additional tuft of fur on top of its head.

Its coat was noticeably longer on its chest and tail.

It had grey eyes, a black nose, and large, round and triangular ears with beige interiors.

Its forepaws have two visible claws, while its hind paws had three toes each along with a brown pad.

It was a Growlithe which was the more typical choice for those of the Jenny family since it was a very loyal fire type and had very balanced stats

However the Growlithe did not look too friendly and kept its distance from Kimi as it let out a growl.

Kimi examined it from a slight distance and then caught sight of the scar left near the eye which had been poorly taken care of. 'It is her.. the same scar and the same hatred and caution towards me and others.'

When she first obtained Growlithe, she was overjoyed but reality soon set in as she was unable to get it to cooperate with her during the test due to there not being enough time to gain its trust.

Although she did not know the details, she knew that not all of the Pokemon given away were of the best quality that could be given so there were occasionally lower quality ones or those that had been abandoned by someone else.

There would be some that were someones first Pokémon as they tried to prepare for the test but after the Pokémon had failed or lost a battle against a rival then the Pokémon may be mistreated or abandoned.

Within the upper class while there were those that cared for Pokémon, there were also those that treated them as tools or would treat them worse.

It was not uncommon for a new trainer to receive a Pokémon through trading, gifts or through similar situations like Kimi who would have to deal with the results of such mistreatment.

After the test and when she had learned more about the world around her, she had found that there were several problems with Growlithe.

First was that its talent or quality was lowered due to its mistreatment, second was the scar that had been left on its cheek that looked like a claw mark and finally was the attitude that it had.

Growlithe as Kimi remembered had a very deep trauma that lasted a long time because of her past, it was very difficult to gain the trust of Growlithe and in the present situation, it was even more difficult to approach it due to the aggressiveness it was displaying.

Kimi remembered that she had been to eager and had been left with a scar on her palm from a bite she had received but Growlithe was probably more scared of the consequences if its actions so it became even more defensive in its attitude towards her.

Their relationship did not exactly start off well but Kimi had returned to the time when they would first meet and first impressions were important.

As several low growls were heard from the small Pokémon, Kimi decided it was best to get aquatinted in a better environment so she called it back for the time being. 'Too many people are around so the stress will only be worse than an ordinary meeting. I never did find out who she had previously belonged to but this time, I will take better care of her.'

She returned to her seat and waited for the break time where everyone would be able to spend some time bonding which was very important for the next tests.

She used her time in between to purchase some berries and she mixed them together in a hurry before putting them into a small dish so when she entered a small room, she placed it on the ground and then released Growlithe again. "Eat first and get healthy. The rest can wait for later."

"Grrrr."

Kimi sighed as she backed off. "I know, I will keep my distance."

She sat in the corner and then closed her eyes while the Growlithe kept a watchful eye over her actions until it felt that it was safe to approach the food that had been prepared.
