The Initiation

The night was uneventful after that, and everyone woke up and proceeded to the locker room to grab their weapons for the initiation event. As they walked there, Jacob talked to Yang.

Jacob: Hey, Yang.

Yang: Yeah?

Jacob: Could you do me a favor and not talk about... what you saw... you know...

Yang: Well, okay... but can I ask why?

Jacob: Well, let's just say... I don't want to attract the attention of a... certain group of people... people that I would rather not talk about.

Yang: Okay, I understand... I think.

A few minutes later

Jacob POV

I opened the locker that I left my weapon in. I was with Yang and Ruby as we saw two people walking past us, a girl and a boy, the girl looked quite excited.

Ruby: Wonder what those two were so worked up about.

Jacob: Your guess is as good as mine.

Yang: Yeah, who knows. So, you seem awfully chipper this morning.

Ruby: Yep, no more awkward small talk or getting to know you stuff. Now I get to let my sweetheart do the talking.

Jacob: You are really treating your weapon like a person aren't you?

Yang: Well remember, Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation. If you want to grow up, you are going to have to meet new people and learn to work together.

Ruby: Uuuugh, you sound like Dad!

Jacob: I'm gonna go look around.

I left them to their conversation while I tried to meet new people, but mostly to see if there were more force sensitive people. I walked not a few feet before I found Weiss and a Red haired girl talking.

Weiss: So Pyrrha, have you given any thought to who's team you would like to be on? I'm sure everyone would be eager to unite with such a strong, well known individual such as yourself.

Pyrrha: Hmm... I'm not quite sure, I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may.

Weiss: Well, I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together?

Pyrrha: Well that sounds grand.

Weiss: Great.

Jacob: Ehhh... I don't think great is the correct word.

Weiss: Look, Jacob, is it? I don't have time for your remarks.

Pyrrha: Nice to meet you, Jacob.

Jacob: So I couldn't help but hear your mention of me the other day.

Weiss: Oh, you have got to be kidding me.

Jacob: Oh it's not like that, I was just thinking about how you may be using flattery to get yourself with a teammate that will carry your weight for you.

Pyrrha: Actually, I think the teams are comprised of four students each.

Jacob: Interesting. Greetings, miss, I am Jacob U'Tal and you seem like you would make a good teamma-

Weiss barged in between me and Pyrrha.

Weiss: Okay, uppity, do you have any idea who you are talking to?

Jacob: For future reference the answer is usually no.

Weiss: This is Pyrrha

Pyrrha: Hello again.

Weiss: Pyrrha graduated top of her class at sanctum.

Jacob: Never heard of it.

Weiss: She's won the Mistral regional Tournament 4 years in a row.

Jacob: The what?

Weiss: She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!

Jacob: Huh?

Weiss: Ugh... What I'm getting at is that you are in no place to ask her to be on your team.

Jacob (in head): I could probably beat her in a fight, but go on.

Pyrrha: Actually, Jacob, I think you would make a great leader.

Weiss: What?

PA Speaker: Would all first year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation. Again, all first year students report to Beacon Cliff for initiation.

Jacob: Looks like that's our cue, let's get moving.

Several Minutes Later

Everyone stood on metal squares near the cliff's edge. Ozpin and Goodwitch stood in front of them to explain the process.

Ozpin: For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest.

Goodwitch: Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today.

Ruby: What? Ohhh...

Ozpin: These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at beacon. So it is in your best interests to be paired with whom you can work well.

Ruby: uhhh

Ozpin: That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years.

You could almost hear Ruby's hopes shatter at this statement.

Ruby: WHAT?

Ozpin: After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest, you will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path or you will die.

Jacob: Raising the stakes already, Professor?

Ozpin: You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. You will guard your item and we will grade you appropriately. Are there any questions? Good, now take your positions.

The students were flung off of the metal squares one by one. I was the last one to be sent flying. As I fell, I observed anything, I could land on, I couldn't find a suitable surface.

Jacob: Guess I've got no choice!

I used the force to slow my descent and landed safely on the ground. As I walked northward I saw a red blur through the trees, I then heard it shout with Ruby's voice.

Ruby: Yaaaaaaaang?

I chuckled at this, of course she would want her sister. Honestly I didn't care who I ended up with, so long as it wasn't that rude snob Weiss. I continued to walk towards the apparent location of the temple when I heard a roar. Ozpin had told me enough about the Grimm to know that that was probably an Ursa. I ran towards it, I eventually found it facing away from me and towards someone else. I ignited my lightsaber and cut the beast's head clean off. It fell to the ground to reveal Pyrrha on the other side.

Jacob: Need some help?

Pyrrha: I mean no disrespect, but I could have handled that.

Jacob: If what I heard is true, then you are correct.

I deactivated my lightsaber.

Jacob: So, I guess we're partners?

Pyrrha: I guess it is so.

Pyrrha and I continued to head north, keeping our eyes peeled for any Grimm that came our way. The walk was slow, with very little conversation occurring between the two of us. We continued our walk when we heard a booming sound in the distance.

Jacob: Did you hear that?

Pyrrha: Gunfire, it seems some of our comrades have encountered the enemy.

She pulled back a branch to move through a dense area, when she let go, it struck me in the face. I recoiled in pain.

Jacob: OW! My face!

Pyrrha: Jacob! I'm sorry.

Jacob: No worries, just a scratch.

Pyrrha: Why didn't you activate your aura?

Jacob: Well...

Pyrrha: What?

Jacob: I don't exactly have one...

Pyrrha: Everyone has an aura. Do you mean you haven't unlo-

Jacob: No, I mean I don't have one! I'm not exactly from this world...

Pyrrha: I... don't understand...

I proceed to tell her about where I'm from. The Jedi, the Republic, everything. After I finished, she had a horrified expression on her face.

Pyrrha: They... killed them all?

Jacob: I don't know... for all I know, they're all dead.

Pyrrha: That is horrible... I'm- I'm so sorry.

Jacob: You don't need to apologize, you had nothing to do with it.

Pyrrha: Here, let me try something.

Jacob: Try what?

Pyrrha: If you have a soul, you may still be able to access your aura.

Jacob: I told you t- Oh fine... why not?

Pyrrha put her hand on my chest and closed her eyes. She seemed concentrated. After a few seconds, her eyes scrunched up. She then gasped and fell backwards in shock.

Jacob: PYRRHA! Are you okay?

Pyrrha panting: What was that?

Jacob: What was what?

Pyrrha: I felt something within your soul... it was... overwhelming... Jacob, I have never felt an energy like that before!

I knew that she was most likely talking about the force, but I didn't trust her enough to tell her about it yet.

Jacob: I- I- I don't know, but we should keep going.

Meanwhile at the cliff

3rd. Person POV

Ozpin was viewing the live feed of all the students when Glynda walked up behind him.

Goodwitch: Out last pair has been formed sir. Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren. Poor boy, I can't possibly imagine those two getting along. However, I believe the most interesting pair lies within Miss Nikos and Mr. U'Tal. Regardless, at their current pace they should reach the temple within just a few minutes. Speaking of which, what did you use as relics this year?

Meanwhile in the forest

Jacob POV

We arrived at some sort of cave entrance.

Jacob: Think this is it?

Pyrrha: It's worth a shot.

We walked into the cave, after only a few meters it was completely black, we were unable to see.

Pyrrha: Jacob, we should head back, we don't have a light source.

Just then, I ignited my lightsaber, bathing the cave in a purple glow.

Jacob: Don't we?

Pyrrha: Ummmm... Jacob... run!

Jacob: Why, we need to get the...

I heard a low growling hiss come from behind me.

Jacob: Oh you have got to be fu-

Yang POV

Yang: Did you hear that?

Blake: Hear what?

Yang: Sounds like something was cut for comedic effect.

Jacob POV

Jacob: KEEP RUNNING!

We ran away from the cave, we didn;t care where we ended up, just not in the claws of that giant Whatchamacallit that was chasing us. Lo and behold we saw the temple in front of us. I ran like hell and pyrrha was not far away. Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice yelling. I look up to see Ruby falling from the sky. I was horrified, I actually did think of her as a friend, I couldn't let her fall from a height that would surely spell her doom. I extended my hand towards her.

Jacob: Ruby, no!!!

Yang POV

Yang: Blake did you hear that? What should we d-

Blake pointed up, I looked only to see Ruby falling from the sky! My heart dropped, I had to do something. I then heard yelling from the treeline, and then something happened that I never expected... She floated in mid air.

Jacob POV

I didn't care if they saw my abilities. I needed to save my friend. I used the force to catch Ruby as she fell. She floated in mid air. She appeared confused, shocked, and unsettled. I slowly began to move her towards the ground. When she touched the ground, she ran up to her sister.

Yang POV

Ruby slowly began to descend. I looked around and saw Jacob holding his arm outward in Ruby's direction. I thought to myself that this couldn't be a coincidence.

Yang (whispering): The Force...

Blake: The what?

Yang: Huh? W-What? I d-didn't say anything! What are you talking about!

Blake: Okaaaaaay...

There was an awkward pause for a couple of seconds.

Blake: Did your sister just float in mid air?

Jacob POV

Pyrrha and I began to walk to the temple. Pyrrha was visibly shaken by seeing my use of the Force. As we got there, I heard a noise from the treeline. The noise was that of an Ursa. It walked through the trees and then fell down, dead. Revealing two people riding it.

Girl: YEEEEEHAAAAW! Awwww... it's broken...

Guy: Nora... please... don't ever do that again...

Nora then seemed to zoom up to the temple and grabbed a relic in the shape of a tower.

Nora (singing): I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!

Guy: Nora!

Nora: Coming, Ren!

Girl in black: Did that girl just ride in on an Ursa?

Yang: I-

Pyrrha: I think we have a bigger problem.

Just then, the giant Grimm, apparently called a Deathstalker, bursted through the trees and towards the temple. Just then, Ruby finally made it to the temple.

Yang: Ruby?

Ruby: Yang!

Nora: NORA!

Girl in black: Did those two just run all of the way here with a Deathstalker on her tail?

Yang's eyes went red and her hair appeared to be literally on fire.

Yang: I can't take it anymore! Can everybody just chill out for two seconds before something crazy happens again?

Jacob: Was that hypothetical or-

Yang: Not helping, Jacob!

Ruby: Ummm, Yang.

Ruby pointed up, we all looked up to see Weiss dangling from a giant bird Grimm.

Ruby: I said jump.

Girl in black: She's gonna fall...

Ruby: She'll be fine.

Ren: She's falling...

Jacob: Do I need to save everybody around here?

I quickly used the force to catch her and get her on the ground safely.

Weiss: Wait, what? What just happened?

Pyrrha: The energy I felt within you... It is radiating off of you now.

Weiss quickly ran to the temple.

Yang: Great, the gang's all here. Now we can die together!

Ruby: Not if I can help it.

Ruby then stupidly ran towards the two big Grimm by herself. As expected, her slugthrower didn't do anything against the Deathstalker. Yang and I ran towards her in an attempt to help.

Yang and Jacob: Ruby!

The giant bird screeched and shot it's feathers at Ruby like javelins. One of them caught her cape and stuck her to the ground as the Deathstalker approached.

Yang: Ruby, get out of there!

Ruby: I'm trying!

Yang: Jacob, do something!

Jacob: I'm on it!

Just before I was about to use the force to help, a white blur shot past use. I then saw that it was Weiss, using her weapon to create a wall of ice to protect Ruby from the Deathstalker.

Weiss: You are so childish.

Ruby: Weiss?

Weiss: And dim witted, and hyperactive, and don't even get me started on your fighting style. And I suppose that I can be a bit... difficult. But if we're going to do this, we're going to have to do this together. So if you quit showing off, I'll be... nicer.

Ruby: I'm not trying to show off, I want you to know I can do this.

Weiss: You're fine.

Weiss walked off, and I then used the Force to pull the feather out of Ruby's cape, freeing her. Yang then ran up to her and hugged her tightly.

Yang: I'm so happy you're okay!

We all regrouped at the temple, making sure we each pair had a relic.

Jacob: Guys, that thing's circling back, what now?

Weiss: Look, there's no sense in dilly-dallying, our objective is right in front of us.

Ruby: She's right, our mission is to grab an artifact and make it back to the cliffs. There's no point in fighting these things.

Jacob: So... run and live? That's what you're saying?

Ruby: I guess.

Jacob: Okay then!

Ren: It's time we left.

Ruby: Right, let's go!

Ruby took the lead in heading back to the cliff. As we approached some ruins, the giant bird perched between us and the cliff. We had no choice but to fight it. The deathstalker had also caught up to us at this point.

Jacob: Oh, you have got to be kidding!

We began to run to the bridge.

Pyrrha: Go! Go!

Pyrrha and Ren then began to cover our 6 as we ran. Firing at the Deathstalker, it did little to stop it. As it approached, they began to run as well. The giant bird then crashed into the bridge, leaving Pyrrha, Ren, and the girl in Black on the side with the Deathstalker.

Jacob: We need to get over there and help them!

Nora: Let's do this!

Jacob: Gladly!

I used the force to propel myself across the chasm and onto the Deathstalker. I ignited my lightsaber and cut off it's stinger. It screeched in pain as the severed stinger fell, stabbing it's head. I turned around for a second to see Ruby, Weiss, the girl in Black, and Yang dealing with the giant bird. Me, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren were to deal with the Deathstalker. We hit that son of a bitch with everything that we had.

Jacob: Nora, nail it!

Nora: Heads up!

Nora used Pyrrha's shield to launch herself high into the air and smash it with her hammer as she fell from the air. We watched as the other 4 jumped around hitting the giant bird with everything they had. Fire and ice pelted the beast as it just wouldn't die! Suddenly, they made a human slingshot as ruby used her scythe to catch the bird by the neck, running up the cliff and eventually decapitating it.

Jacob: Wow...

Later that night

Ozpin: Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Branswing, Sky Larke. The four of you retrieved the Black Bishop pieces. From this day forward you will work together as Team CRDL, led by Cardin Winchester.

The audience clapped.

Ozpin: Jacob U'Tal, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie. The four of you retrieved the White Rook pieces. From this day forward you will work together as Team JNPR... Led by... Jacob U'Tal.

Jacob: Wha- me?

Ozpin: Congratulations, young man.

We walked off the stage as the next team made their way up.

Ozpin: And finally, Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, and Yang Xiao Long. The four of you retrieved the White Knight pieces. From this day forward you will work together as Team RWBY. Led by... Ruby Rose.

Yang hugged Ruby as we all clapped for the four of them.

Ozpin: Looks like things are shaping up to be an... interesting year.
