Connor POV
I hiss in a sarcastic breath through my teeth and put on a show of cringing at her to deliver the blow harder at her. “Well, it seems your luck has officially run out.“ I tilt my head and peer down at her, the corner of my mouth twitching as I take in the barely contained, anxious fear etched all over her face. The fear combines with dumbstruck shock over my flippant response and lack of concern. “Tell me, was all of this worth it? Did you enjoy your short time living? Your even shorter time with your new family?” I practically spit the word family at her. "The perks that being a member of this precious little family gave you before you had to wake up and face the inevitability of reaping what you sowed? Eventually, the time will always come where you have to pay the piper. Nothing about this life, more specifically this underground world, comes free."
