Chapter Ten

After giving Connor the address and texting mike that he didn't need to drive me home, we made our way down the highway as Connor had his annoying country music playing. I didn't bother starting a conversation with him as I sat in the passenger seat looking out the window. watching the cars speed by, I could hear Connor sigh to himself as he probably knew I wasn't going to talk to him.

" so you like it here in the city? " Connor asks as we arrived over the bridge.

" yea it's nice," I say not looking at him.

" Kendra, I want to apologize. What donna told you isn't all that true." Connor says turning on my street.

he pulls up in front of my loft apartment building turning his ignition off.

"it's fine, you don't need to explain," I say taking my seat belt off.

" The truth is I did hate you at first, only because I couldn't understand what I was feeling," Connor says.

" I remember." I whispered

" what?" Connor asks confused.

looking at him now I could feel the tears welling in my eyes as I gazed into his chocolate brown eyes.

" I remember who you are Connor burns, I don't think we should be friends or whatever you think your gonna gain," I say wiping the tears from my face.

" I was a jerk, I shouldn't have rejected you. I know me leading you on wasn't nice but that what immaturity does when you're a teenager." Connor says sounding sincere.

" it doesn't matter, it was silly of me to ever think you could want or love me. you hurt me." I say not looking at him.

without saying anything else I get out of his truck and go inside to my apartment.

" Connor drove me home last night," I say to Dani over the phone, I was currently at work on my lunch break so I had 15 minutes to talk to her.

" he did? what he say?" Dani asks as I hear children laughing in the background.

" how's teaching going?" I asked her. she had started her 1-year program as a math teacher at an elementary school in Franktown.

" don't change the subject!" Dani says yelling.

" he said he hated me because he didn't understand what he was feeling," I say rolling my eyes.

" what does that mean?" Dani asks confused.

" I don't know and don't care," I say throwing my lunch trash away.

"let's get together Friday night, girls' night," Dani says excitedly.

" sure, ill talk to you later," I say and end the call

Connor Pov

why couldn't I just tell Kendra how I feel? she was so beautiful and sexy. she hates me now and I couldn't blame her. She said she remembered, but all she seems to remember is how I hurt her. I wanted her to remember the love she had for me and I wanted her to know that I was in love with her too. I always had been I just was ready to admit it back then.

learning that Kendra was seeing Mike Luciano already told me that wasn't going to work out. His parents are straight racists and would never approve of Kendra. my uncle joe told me about what had happened, I wanted to beat Mike's ass for even considering taking Kendra to meet his parents. he knew all about how racist his folks were and still humiliated her like that? he didn't deserve her, I was determined to make Kendra mine. Forever.

Kendra Pov

it was Friday evening I was headed home after a long week of work I was ready for a girl's night with Dani. I hadn't heard from mike lately apparently he was busy at the hospital so I wasn't upset. we needed space from each other. I told him if he wasn't sure about me then we should break up. I know his parents would never approve of me so why force things any further?

Walking into my apartment I throw my things on the small table by my entrance door and head to my room to get out of my scrubs. sitting on my bed in just my bra and underwear my phone rings seeing an unknown number pop up on the screen.

" Hello? I say quickly

" Kendra? it's Christina Mike's sister," Christina says on the other end.

" oh hi," I say surprised she contacted me.

" Listen, I got your number from mikes phone, can we get together for drinks tonight?" she asks

" um sure, I'm supposed to be having girls' night with my best friend but we can make it a threesome? "I say

"okay sure, meet me at vault club in center city at 8," Christina says and hangs up.

throwing my phone on the bed I throw in my robe as I hear a knock at my door, already knowing it's Dani I quickly open the door as she embraces me with a tight hug.

" hey, I'm so excited!" Dani sings

" yea, we are going to this vault club. Christina mike's sister invited me" I said walking into my room.

" really? Dani asks following me plopping on my bed.

" yea she called just before you came here," I say looking in my closet for an outfit to wear.

" didn't you and mike break up?" Dani asks confused.

" We are just on a break, giving each other space to figure things out," I say pulling out a part of skinny jeans and a sexy crop top long sleeve blouse.

" clearly mike didn't tell his sister," Dani says rolling her eyes.

" Dani, I wasn't gonna be rude and say no to her. let's just have some fun tonight I say throwing a shirt at her.

" so I and Shawn had the baby conversation Dani says looking at her phone

" " wow, are you trying to get pregnant?" I ask looking at her face.

" not really. I'm on the pill you know that. Shawn asked if I would consider stop taking them." Dani says looking at me nervously.

" what did you say?" I ask curiously

" I told him no, I wasn't ready to start a family yet we haven't even been made a dam year yet!" Dani says upset.

" that's true. maybe Shawn is just excited to start a family with you. just talk to him about options." I say setting my clothes on my bed.

"let's just focus on having a blast tonight!!" Dani says getting her outfit from her bag she brought in with her.

The club was bumping with loud music as we made our way through the crowd. people were dancing as we made our way to the VIP section where Christina was. I instantly spotted her as we got closer. she looks so hot in a skin-tight dress and expensive high heels, taking a shot back. waving at us when she spotted me looking really happy to see me.

" hey! you made it" Christina says hugging me.

" This is Dani, my best friend," I say motioning to Dani who just smiled at Christina.

" Nice to meet you, come let's get you two some drinks," Christina says as we follow her to the crowded bar.

we each took a few shots each as the music began blasting, I watched Christina dancing with some guy that looked like a dam model from a magazine. Dani pulled me onto the dance floor as we began dancing and singing along to the music.

at this moment I wasn't thinking about my relationship with mike, wondering if in the end he'd choose me over his parents. dancing with Dani seeing how happy she was being so carefree made me realize how much I miss her. taking a step back from the dance floor i sit down at the bar to get a glass of water.

" hey, you okay?" Christina asks sitting beside me.

" oh yes, this place is great," I say taking a sip of water.

" i hope you know that I think your great, I know you and mike are in an awkward state but just know I'm here as a friend. don't worry about my annoying parents, they just old-fashioned. Mike loves you." Christina says touching my hand

" Thanks, I appreciate you saying that," I say smiling at her.

" now lets go enjoy the night!" Christina says taking another shot.

Laughing to myself I take hold of her hand as we join Dani on the dance floor.
