Reincarnation of a Failed Author: I Hate Clichés

"I hate clichés," I mutter under my breath, frustration etching lines on my face as I stare at yet another overused plot blowing up on the website of the novel I'm publishing. It's a constant cycle of disappointment for me, with no viewers, no readers, and certainly no feedback. In other words, I'm a failed author, stuck in a rut of uninspired storytelling. I can't quite recall when my disdain for cliché tropes first took root, but one thing is for certain— I found myself reincarnated into another world after an unfortunate encounter with a truck. Typical, right? I die in a cliché manner and end up in a whole new reality. "Damn it, I had to go and die in a cliché way too!" I grumble, shaking my head at the irony of it all. But this time, I have a new name, a new body, and even magical powers to boot. I'm now known as Helis, and this is my chance at a fresh start. After hearing the name of the world I had reincarnated into, Crisyes, I realized it was the world of the novel I had only written the concept about. It seems I've been thrust into the world that is on its last living decades. The details elude me, but I'm certain of one thing—this world is on a collision course with chaos. What I didn't anticipate, however, were the lingering threads of my previous life, the invisible connections that bind me to Earth. These mysterious [Story] strings will come back to haunt me, weaving a web of uncertainty and challenges that I'll have to navigate sooner or later. I may despise clichés, but little did I know that I would become entangled in a story far beyond my control. It's a tale where my past and present collide, and only time will reveal the true extent of its consequences. ------Notice------ THE STORY WILL TAKE TIME TO BUILD! Yes, it will start as a normal reincarnation story with cliché elements and cringe events, but the energy will shift at the last chapter of the first volume. The story will focus more on the development of the characters and world-building, not just, "Wow, found a golden cup which I'll drink from and become immortal." No, I will make it as realistic as possible, especially the characters. Oh, and the mc has a knack to trigger cliché events, that's one of the reasons he hates them. If you care about horny chapters, they do happen but later on when the time is right. That's it here, please support me through this journey, and most importantly: Enjoy!

Awakened Earthling, II

Sean plopped down on the ground as the monster's tentacle made contact with him.

Truly, it was such a bizarre sight to see.

"Shit," I cursed while deactivating my mana cloak as I approached the jello-ish monster that I'll call a Siren based on the female humanoid form it had.

"Hmph!" I severed her body in half which was all mushy and soft.

"Helis, that thing's waking up again!" Luke informed me with a shaky tone.

"Is this thing like a slime? Hmph," I severed its head this time.

"It's getting reattached!" Luke yelled while also swinging his rose-colored blade.

"Oh, wait a second. It's here," I noticed something in its solar plexus and just slid my sword through it.

"It disintegrates and drops a mana crystal, huh," I muttered under my breath as I advanced towards the 'loot' spot on the ground.

"Hmm," I picked up the Mana Crystal and scanned it, "The Siren's mana crystals are into blue, huh."

"So, it seems. Whereas the bat-spider's ones are into deep green ones, this looks cute compared to those disgusting ones." Luke also took in the sight.

Soon after, we collected all the mana crystals from the ground and made our way back to our base with Sean in our hold.

When we reached there, Mai was in the wait. She gasped when she saw our flooded bodies by the monsters' blood.

"What happened?" She asked us, "Ah, do you have any other clothes? Those are all battered already."

"Ahaha, yes. We do have two more changes in the equipment we took, but we can still use these. Our resources are limited, after all," I smiled at her motherly behavior, reminding me of a certain someone.

"Ah, I'm hitting the bed already, I am exhausted," Luke went into his tent after dropping Sean on his.

"Good night," I unconsciously smiled.

"Look at you, grinning and all that, are you gay by chance?" Mai came next to me and smirked as she asked that.

"Phwua! No, of course not!" My reaction was more dramatic than I had meant it to be.

"Eh, that just made me more suspicious, you know that, right?" She winked while poking my rib with her elbow.

"Well, you may think whatever you wish to, ever since being reincarnated, Sean and Luke were the first friends I made after living for so long there.

I reminisced to the past and when I took the moment to stare at her face, she had this look of confusion and honest suspicion.

"When you came to this reincarnated?" She whispered.

"Oh, that's… a mistake, I just have a bad habit of saying when I reincarnated. I traveled from overseas where I started a new life, and so… Yeah, you're not going to believe that, are you?" I averted my gaze.

"Helis, what do you mean by when you reincarnated?" She looked at me resolutely and spoke with a serious tone.

"Sigh… Come with me, let's go for a walk." I invited the lady who heard my slip-up.

***

Intentional.

My slipping up and mentioning my reincarnation was, in fact, intentional.

We were now in a secluded area, the pitter-pattering of our steps being the only thing reverberating against the cavern walls.

"So, Helis, what did you mean–huh?!" She glared at me after I took hold of her throat, pushing her to the wall with my dagger near her left ear.

"If you speak more than that, this blade will slash your brains open, you hear?" I stared icily into her eyes, sheer terror was portrayed in them. And on her irises, I could see myself with my widened eyes.

"Listen here, Mai–" My sentence was interrupted.

"Ah… just a second, Helis. This might be… turning me on…" She was averting her gaze while panting with her cheeks flushed, her similar face to Selica's made my attention waver.

And that was all she needed.

"Hiya!" She nudged my arm away, soon after getting a hold of it, turning around and throwing me on my back.

"Kgha!" Breath escaped my lungs from the pressure they had been flung to the ground with.

"Will you speak now, honored guest?" She was now pointing a needle at my eye, her hand four centimeters away, while crouched and her face just on top of my head.

"Sigh. Now that's certainly scary, isn't it? Getting your eye plunged and all." A frown covered my face at her attempt to phase me.

I clicked my tongue, "What now?"

"As I questioned you earlier, what did you mean by 'when I reincarnated'?"

I sighed. She's really repeating this over and over again, isn't she?

I willed myself to speak, "I will answer that, but first, I have to ask you, are you flashing those boobs to me intentionally? Since I can clearly see them," I said amusedly with a smirk.

"Eh!" She scurried away while holding her chest, "Pervert, don't look at me!"

"Ahaha, what a womanly reaction that is. Just what I like to see," I scoffed, getting yet another flash of her reddened face.

"Hmp!" Tears formed in her eyes as she puffed breath out of her nostrils.

We quickly set down after that fun occurrence.

"First, I must ask about your past before I can reply to any of your questions." I was bobbing my head left and right, feeling restless.

She let out an exasperated sigh, "Hah… What is it you wish to know?"

"Your age, your nationality, where you are from? What is the country you're from, called? Your city, too. And then your family's background, what sketchy business do they run? Do they run a sketchy business? Is their business sketchy? What is your blood type? What type the blood your body is made of? What type of blood do you have in your body? And then, do you have a sister or brother? Brother or sister…"

"W-Wait, wait, wait. All those questions are messed up. Let me just tell you myself instead!" She yelled out nervously while swinging her arms up and down.

"Go on, what are you waiting for?"

She clicked her tongue, "Tch, My name is Mai Sakaguchi. I am a seventeen-year-old girl, soon to be eighteen. I attend Hakodate High School."

"I like to hang out with friends, not that I have any proper ones, and I love food. I have two older brothers who are mostly out on work trips. My father is the founder of a famous hotel company, so I've been regarded as a rich kid most of my life." She was grinding her teeth now.

"Besides loving food, I also find myself loving to be alone at times. I guess I'm both an introverted and extroverted person. I make jammed toast quite a lot, I've had this addiction to it lately." She was now drooling.

"I was also a tomboy when I was younger, that's when I got into karate and practiced sword training. I'm also quite good with a bow, just so you know. Hmphmph!" She was now scoffing proudly.

"And my elemental affinities are water and wind."

"Huh?" I was stunned in place when I heard that.
