Chapter 6: Divine Sword (Sorrow)
The air grew heavy with the stench of rotting trees and the eerie silence of a place devoid of life as Yun Feng journeyed deeper into the west side of the forest.
With each step he took, the yearning became stronger, and he felt close to the voice that had been calling to him for days now. He even began to hear whispers that sounded otherworldly.
He followed the whispers and soon found himself in a clearing where the red pillar of light had erupted days before.
As he stood at the edge of the now desolate part of the forest, the sight before him was enough to make his blood run cold. The once-lush greenery that boasted mountain-high trees had been reduced to nothing but a barren wasteland. It looked as if a nuclear bomb had exploded here, the trees now charred and broken, their once-beautiful leaves turned to ash. It was as if the very life had been sucked out of the earth, leaving nothing but death in its wake.
But what truly caught his attention was the dozens of bodies littering the ground. From the still lingering pressure he felt from those bodies, he could tell that every single one of them was that of a powerful martial artist who rushed over as soon as they got word. Every one of these people possessed abilities that could defy the heavens. They could fly on swords, walk on water, and destroy rocks with a single punch.
Every one of them could rule a region and could cause the death of thousands of mortals with just a word from them.
Yet these mighty deities lay in twisted, broken heaps, their limbs twisted at impossible angles, their faces contorted in agony, their eyes still wide open as if they saw the most unimaginable thing right before their deaths.
"What happened here? Who did this?" Yun Feng's face broke into a frown, his eyes flicking over the ruins, searching for any sign of life or movement. But there was nothing but silence.
As he scanned the area, he noticed that there wasn't any sign of battle in the area, just withered trees. Yun Feng wondered.
"Huh? " Suddenly Yun Feng's footsteps froze as his eyes caught sight of a familiar figure. It was the powerful woman who had saved him and the villagers on the day of the eruption. Yun Feng had found her beauty remarkably close to someone he longed for day and night.
"pity someone with a nice ass and even bigger melons would bite the dust somewhere as withered as here" Yun Feng sighed even more, He even had plans to reach out to the fairy maiden just for the fun of it, Unfortunately, she was now nothing but a cold corpse amongst many in this dark place.
Her now-twisted-to-the-back face was now pale white like snow, and the oddly familiar terror he had seen in many of those cultivators' eyes was present in hers too.
With a sigh, Yun Feng shook his head as he kept on moving deeper, still driven by the urge to find out what caused the genocide of so many powerful people all at once.
If any one mortal were in this place, no one would blame them if they shit their pants watching this gory scene and probably wished they had ten feet to carry them countless miles away from this place.
Yet Yun Feng didn't feel any terror or fear as one would expect from a weakling like him, just curiosity.
He had an unflinching look, even he wasn't aware of, written on his face. It was as if he had returned to his days as a scientist back on earth, doing research he loved or his first decades in this world.
At the moment, he was like a zombie, completely driven by the desire to consume brains fearlessly. Only the desire for brains was replaced by curiosity to find answers, answers he would only find by moving foward.
Barely moments after passing the corpse of the powerful woman, he reached the very center of the destruction. He saw something that made his heart skip a beat - a strange floating object, hovering A few feet above the ground floated an object unlike anything Yun Feng had ever seen before. Its surface shimmered and glowed with an otherworldly light, emitting spectrums of colors he couldn't describe. Despite the overwhelming sense of danger that permeated the air, he couldn't help but be drawn towards the object.
Beneath all that terror, he saw the beauty of the incredible things this strange world of martial artists could conjure.
A question crossed in Yun Feng's mind: should he touch it or not?
That thought lingered for less than a breath before he made his decision. He stepped cautiously through the debris and scattered corpses, his heart pounding in his chest as he drew closer and closer to the strange, glowing sphere.
As he reached out to touch it, a sudden gust of wind knocked him five steps back, and he stumbled to the ground.
The force from that gust of wind did more damage to his insides than to his outside body. His internal organs fell into disarray, and the injuries Elder Duanmu's pill had temporarily suppressed acted up.
Puwarkkk!!!
Yun Feng's knees bent, and his mouth became like a dam that was finally let loose. He vomited mouthfuls of blood mixed with pieces of his broken internal organs.
Only after several breaths did the generous donation of blood to the earth stop. Unfortunately, the effects of the pill he was forced to consume from Elder Duanmu lost their effect, and after that good purge of his body, an intolerable pain that could drive even the strongest warriors mad with agony assaulted Yun Feng.
He felt countless broken bones inside him stabbing his insides like ten thousand ants eating him from the inside, and his breathing became unnatural. Every breath he took came with great discomfort. It was a miracle he was still alive with all the injuries he sustained.
The object continued to hover in the air above the suffering Yun Feng, its surface pulsing with an eerie light. Yun bit his teeth several times to keep himself from screaming as he felt immense pain.
He realized, with a growing sense of dread, that if he didn't find a way to heal himself, he would undoubtedly die here and might never get to see Yun Fei and Yun Mei or anyone else. No one would save him in time after this place had already been marked as a no-go area.
"No, I can't die like this... How would I face her if I abandoned our girls like this?" Gritting his teeth, Yun Feng struggled to his feet, using Sorrow Sword, a gift from his wife. He moved forward slowly, not so much better than a snail. His eyes were glued to the floating sphere in front of him. He was convinced that it was a weapon of unimaginable power, one that was probably used to lay waste to this part of the forest and kill all those cultivators who were before him. Getting his hands on such a powerful sphere would give him control over his life once again.
All this getting pushed around by the strong since he reincarnated would end. He couldn't remain at the bottom of this world as a mortal ant anymore or back down, not now that he had a chance standing in front of him. Yun Feng steeled his heart, and with Sorrow Sword in hand, he gradually closed the gap between him and the floating sphere.
Every step he took was like carrying the weight of an entire mountain on his shoulders. Blood trickled down his body nonstop, and his heavily injured body looked not so much different from the tattered corpses littering the ground.
Every time he felt like he would pass out from the stress, a mysterious pure energy would flow through his body, keeping him barely awake. Yun Feng didn't know or care what the force was; his eyes were fixed firmly on the prize.
If anyone else had witnessed what was happening, it wouldn't be surprising if they were shocked to their core. After all, they would have discovered that the seemingly old and withered Sorrow Sword was emitting a white light that seeped into Yun Feng's body from time to time, helping him recover his stamina it was like the sword had a mind of its own and knew just when to provide the much needed assistance.
No ordinary sword could achieve such a feat only those divine swords that only appeared in legends posses such abilities, Even sect master's of sects like Blue Phoenix sect wouldn't possese such a divine weapon.
Yet, A mere mortal from such a back water area passed such a divine sword.
