Two weeks

In the blink of an eye, the two week recovery period at the five star hote- hospital had passed. After what felt like the most relaxed time in my entire life, or both lives in this case, I sadly had to leave this place.

Today, being the last day, the bandages were coming off. As the nurse carefully unwrapped layer by layer of bandages, I was nervous about still looking like a pig once theyre off.

As she handed me the mirror with a, "Here, take a look at yourself."

I nervously looked into the mirror, while I didn't mind if I got a scar or two... I didn't really want to wear a mask until the end of time if i looked like a pighead!?

What greeted me was my own face, with the smoothness far exceeding anything I've seen before, almost shining.

Relaxing a bit as I didn't turn into McPork, I profoundly thanked the nurse before I went outside the hospital.

Ronald was also out there, sitting on a bench, with the same almost shining face.

"Damn, we got lucky as all hell." He opened with that, recalling the entire ordeal. "So... Im guessing you're done with this precinct and will move to another?"

"Nope." I replied.

"That's great, I worried I'd have to find a new partner." saying that he smiled.

"You'll still have to, I don't want to do this shit anymore." came my reply.

"Oh..." the smile gone, he asked "Then what will you do?"

"I think I'm gona get a normal job for now. Fuck being used like this, I'd rather try to make it on my own." I continued, having made up my mind after the ordeal. Not only being thrown into shit like that, I didn't even have the option to deal with things the way I wanted to. Instead I had to follow protocol, which, it can go to hell now.

"Do you really think you won't end up under someone again? You'd just be worked to death by your boss. I've already worked boring office jobs, and I don't think I could go back. If even one person is an asshole at your job you won't like it and you would need to find a different place, and especially if it's the boss. We had it good under sarge Smith, who was honest and a softie. " he said, recalling his day to day job.

"While that's true, it's just not something I can keep doing after this. You get me right?", I replied, "Not only Smith but the others are also fun to hang out with, same with you. But I still can't do it." trying to sound dramatic like that, I hoped he'd give up on convincing me to stay. Otherwise, if he gets his talking skills going, it would take a while to stop him.

"Aigh, Fine." he replied with tiredness apparent in his voice.

Like that, silence settled in between the two of us. After a while, I stood up to get my things and go back home.

"don't get yourself killed, bald geezer." I turned to smile at him.

"I'm not bald! OR A GEEZER!" the middle finger accompanied that reply.

Returning home an hour later, I contemplated what my order of buisness was.

First things first, write a resignation letter for tomorrow. While it is a bit saddening that I'm leaving, I can't stay a cop forever, as the simplest way to level up is shoot people in the face. Something that a cop can't really do freely.

It was something that either a vigilante or a supervillain does, and with me despising evil, it was going to be me purging the rotten society of its filth, to make a better life for the ordinary citizens.

Now, the second thing I needed to get was guns. It would take a while before I could get myself the weapons from the system, so for now the only thing i could do was get myself a bigger caliber revolver with more stopping power. Not only will it be far more manageable for me due to the skill, I'll need to get used to different weapons at one point.

Making the gun store my second priority, I then contemplated on the third and final issue that was plaguing me.

My outfit and my name. My character, so to speak.

The cowboy hat was absolutely a must, not just because of the revolvers but because it would fit with my theme of being lawless. When you think of gunfighters, usually the hat is always present, and sometimes even a defining feature.

The next thing was the main clothing. I guess a cowboy duster would be the only fitting option, mostly due to them looking the best out of all the options I have. Or a Trenchcoat maybe?

Next thing I would need is something to keep my identity hidden, which would probably be a helmet. Or a full head mask, Either or. With me being a cowboy lookalike I would need to pick something that goes with the wild west aesthetic.

While a bull's skull wouldn't be half bad, a human skull would also work perfectly. Eh, I'll get to this bridge when I need cross it.

I could put on some additional holsters so I can swap around pistols for continued fire, without needing to reload for a few dozen shots.

Some ammo belts as well, or maybe ammo pouches.

Anyways, looking at the not that badly drawn sketch of a cowboy wearing a skull mask, I felt satisfied.

Being finished with that, I started writing a letter of resignation for tomorrow. Yet not even a single word was coming to mind for how I should write it. Putting together the best thing I could pen down, I finished the letter for tomorrow.

Looking outside and seeing that it was already dark outside, I simply went to sleep.

Next morning, I came to Smith and handed in my resignation letter.

Not even bothering to look at it, "Are you resigning?" he asked while still dealing with paperwork.

"Yes, sir. I do-" I wanted to give him an explanation, but he just raised his hand to stop me.

"No need to explain, I get it. You got used as live bait. Plus Ronald told me already." Handing over a envelope, he said with a smile "Severance. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. And if you want to come back, you're always going to be welcome."

"Thank you, boss." Handing over the car keys, along with the glock that was given to me when I joined, I headed home on foot. It wasn't the worst honestly, compared to the usual traffic, to be on foot going home.

Enjoying my walk back home for once, I arrived near the previous gun store with the model 29.

Walking in, i asked if they still had the model 29.

"You're lucky customer. The last one is still left."

Considering for a moment whether I wanted something else, with a larger caliber I decided against it, and asked "Then, what other .44 do you have?"

"We will always recommend the Redhawk, one of the most popular and reliable designs. Or maybe, if you have the budget, you can get the super variant of it."

Looking at the model 29s 5inch/13cm barrel, and then at my model 10 with its 3 inch/7.5cm barrel, i decided to look at the available options.

Considering that I had a model 29 now, with a medium barrel lenght, and a model 10 with a decently short barrel, I decided I would get myself something with a longer barrel. That way I have something for close range, medium range and long range.

Rugers Super black hawk, redhawk, super redhawk...

Colts Anaconda...

The multiple other varieties of the 629 from Smith and wesson...

After what felt like an eternity of having the clerk explain the differences, I decided to go with the super redhawk, both due to its accuracy and durability being slightly better than the others.

Having decided on the weapons, I bought a few hundred rounds of 44 magnum ammo, 2 additional holsters for the pistols I just bought. In addition to that i got some attachments for my new pretty ladies. Having paid for everything I was four thousand shorter, but still had four grand I could spend willy nilly.

Next on my shopping list to become a proper vigilante, I decided to get myself the mask first and foremost.
