Will was standing in front of the receptionist
"You were inside the dungeon for 4 hours, so 8000R please", The receptionist replied while being completely engrossed in her book.
"I'd like to sell these items first." Wil then proceeded to place the items on the shelf.
" hmm.. 30 G rank goblin meat and bones. 200 for each which leads to 12000 R.
1 high goblin bone and meat. 1500 R for each.
1 rank G broadsword. Seems like someone was lucky. 10000 R for it.
So here 17000 R" The receptionist gave Will the 17000 R.
"Haha , my first income." Will had tears in his eyes. He then thanked the receptionist anf went to his hostel room.
-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
It had been 8 hours since Will had returned from the dungeon.
After returning from the dungeon, this whole time he had been practicing his lightning bolt spell.
Will suddenly got a jolt.
He then viewed his status and then smiled
"Finally"
Skills -
Lightning arrow (Rank F) [15]- can shoot lightning bolts and arrows
"Yes. The spell upgraded." Will raised his hands in a sign of victory.
Spell upgradation was a process of a lower rank spell evolving into its higher counterpart when it's proficiency reached 100
This was true for all types of spells – those of mages, warriors , tanks, healers etc etc.
But people usually bought and learnt a higher rank spell rather than upgrading a lower one.
This was because of the limiting factors that the people faced.
Lets take a warrior's case. For the warrior to learn a spell, he would need the correct rank, speed and strength. So a warrior with G rank , G level strength and speed can learn a G rank spell.
For him to increase it's proficiency, he would have to practice it again and again. But the question here comes that for how long can he practice it ?
Warriors too consume energy of the body while using a spell and hence they are limited by the energy in their body. To put it in simpler terms, a person cannot do 1000 pushups at once because his body doesn't have that much energy and because his muscles are not that strong.
Similarly spells of warriors and tanks would consume the body's energy and put strain on muscles which one could only handle for some time. After that even he would need to rest to regain his energy to again use the spell.
Coming to mages. Mages need mana to perform spells. Now even the mana of a mage is not unlimited and hence he cannot practice the spell as much as he wants to.
After depletion of mana, he would have to rest to gain it again.
Because of this warriors, tanks, healers, mage – all are able to rank up faster than being able to increase their spell's proficiency.
But Will's was a special case, Thanks to the shard.
Because of his high mana, he could use his spell a lot of times thus leading to first increasing the level of his spell than his rank.
This was another reason why Will had chosen to consume the shard.
Normally, only a F rank mage could learn the F rank lightning arrow spell, if he would have used the skill book.
But Will here while being Rank G can still use the Rank F spell as he didn't learn it from a spell book, but learnt it by increasing the proficiency of the lower level G rank spell.
And this was one of the loopholes of the world, that every mage knew but could not implement due to their low mana.
Only people like Will, who had high mana abused this loophole.
Thus now Will while being a Rank G had the power to use a Rank F spell.
Another reason why Will wanted to upgrade his spell was because it allowed him to use both lightning bolt and lightning arrow.
Normally, if a person would have learnt the Rank F lightning arrow spell from a skill book, he would only be able to use lightning arrow and not lightning bolts.
But since, Will learnt the arrow by upgrading his Rank G lightning bolt spell, he could use both.
Further, learning a spell from a skill book led to the person starting with 0 proficiency in that spell.
But since Will had upgraded it, he automatically got some proficiency (15 in this case) without even using the spell even once.
"The shard definitely add limitations to my growth path, but also has it's own advantages too. Let us try this spell tomorrow in the dungeon." Will smiled and then went to sleep.
