Ch 17:- Awakening

Rayne woke up feeling super tired dragged his body out of the bed and made his way towards the bathroom to complete his daily hygiene. Feeling refreshed he dressed up and exited his dorm room and made his way towards the cafeteria.

In the cafeteria Rayne grabbed his food made way towards the low level section where level one and two usually sit, there he spotted Vorden, Quinn and Layla but there was no sign of Peter.

As Rayne sat next to Layla, the heated conversation of Vorden and Layla stopped.

"Rayne here witnessed what this crazy boy did yesterday," Layla said.

"I said don't call me Crazy"Vorden slowly said each word, one by one.

"Rayne, is what Layla said true," Quinn asked softly.

"Yeah it is true Vorden attacked Layla but I think that our friend here has a reasonable excuse for why he did that," Rayne said.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry about attacking you, When I saw Quinn's blood, I thought that maybe the attacker had come back to get revenge. I thought you might have come in to attack Me and Peter as well." Vorden explained, "I don't know if you know this but Peter is only a level one, and even though my indicator says I'm a level five, I have to touch people to use my abilities. When you came through the door, I had no choice but to act first."

"How can we even believe you?" Layla said still annoyed by the whole thing. It was clear to her that Vorden was unstable. It was as if his mood and mind were changing all the time. Just seconds ago she felt like Vorden was going to attack her again and all of a sudden he's calm, Layla wasn't buying it.

However, Even Quinn felt like Vorden was acting strange, it seemed like Vorden was always trying to hide something. When Vorden was asked about what happened between him and the second years, and even now with what had happened between him and Layla.

"I'll just leave you to be for now," Vorden said "I'm sorry about what happened. Quinn if you need anything just let me know." He then got out from his seat and left the three of them alone.

"Do you see what I mean?" Layla said, "The man is unstable, I understand he might have protected you a few times and he hasn't hurt you yet, but someone like him can hurt you at any time."

"I agree with you" Rayne said while eating.

With breakfast over and done with, it was time for Rayne, Layla and Quinn to head to their beast weapons class. When they entered the room, Fei, Brandon and Loop where nowhere to be seen. Of course, Fei and Brandon were banned from the class and Loop had decided to make a transfer to another Combat class.

Leo stood at the front of the class and was prepared to give out his instructions for today's class.

"Now for today's lesson, it will be individual practise. You have fought for the last couple of days with your weapon. Now you must learn how to get the hang of it. How to make it a part of you. Maybe come up with unique ideas to combine the use of your ability with the weapon. Then tomorrow you shall put today's hard work into practice."

With that, everyone went into a separate space with their weapon. A few of the students sat down and started to think about how they could use their ability with their weapon. One student covered their whip in flames making a fire whip, another held a shield and managed to alter its shape to form spikes.

For Rayne quickly found an empty spot and sat down on the floor assuming meditative posture, he then started to to do the breathing technique that was mentioned in the book of spirit. The breathing technique was steady and cyclic it required an individuals total concentration to perform it correctly.

As he was inhaling and exhaling in a cyclic order his body slowly started to feel light, peaceful and relaxed as if he was floating in water.

Sensing the strange thought Rayne immediately opened his eyes, stood up and looked around himself to determine where he was. The sky was dark and boundless illuminated by various star arranged in such a pattern that it resembled a neural network and if he wasn't wrong this was the representation of system which was bound to his soul and this place is called the soul sea or soul space according to the book, but now came the hardest part it was soul core formation. According to the book the soul core formation is a very delicate process it requires precision and talent for any individual to form a core and also a bit of luck but the most important thing is the person needs to have soul energy to even form a soul core in the first place but here comes the twist the soul energy is not the spiritual energy but instead it is something entirely different it was not present in all being according to the book it was present in either people who where in close contact with divinity or people had been blessed.

~flashback~

At first when reading the book Rayne didn't understand the meaning of spiritual energy as through out the book instead of using it spiritually like its name implies it was used more physical so the only conclusion that he came to is that it was a problem with translation and his suspicion was confirmed by system when it said that it was written in a completely different language than he knew according to the system it was written in a dead language but it kind of resembled a language he knew and with the help of the system he was successfully able to decipher it and understand the book in its core language that is the only reason why it took him nearly 2 hours to comprehend a single chapter of the book.

~Back to present~

Rayne could be seen standing in the middle of the sea taking deep breaths in and out although in this place there was no such thing as air then also Rayne did this as method of calming his nerves and finally he willed for the soul core to form, the water under his feet slowly started to vibrate and soon it developed into gigantic waves as if trying to resemble the pain he was suffering from the reason for this kind of behavior and pain was that the formation of a core is a natural process and right now he was forcing his body to form a soul core so of course the process was painful and needed a lot of precision and focus but he didn't take into account on what kind of reaction his physical body is having.

~35 minutes before soul core awakening~

"Boy your heartbeat was starting to give me doubts that you were hiding something. "Said Leo, "But I'm glad you were not the culprit otherwise I would have lost a promising student."

As Leo had returned with Quinn after their interrogation whether Quinn had killed Brandon Richardson or not he started to walk around room giving advice to other students.

As he was observing the students he saw Rayne sitting in a meditative posture but that is not what caught his attention it was how his aura that for some reason was growing brighter and brighter as minutes passed until it became golden it was to bright for him to look at with his ability at that moment he smelt something he was to much familiar with the smell of blood.

"Sir he is bleeding, " a boy shouted from the direction of Rayne.

Hearing this Leo immediately made way towards Rayne and asked the other students to move away a little bit.

"Tell me boy what are you seeing" Leo asked.

The boy looked at Leo strangely then remembered that Leo was blind so he said.

"Sir he is bleeding from nose"

Leo gently picked Rayne up and contacted the teleport guys to teleport them to the nurse office. Arriving at the nurse office he laid Rayne down on the bed and asked Hayley to immediately start healing. He had an idea what was happening.After about 10 minutes Rayne's vital were back to normal.

~Back to present~

As soon as the soul core formation got completed he was pushed out of his soul sea.

Rayne woke up gasping for air as if he hasn't been taking breadth for a long time. Hayley immediately appeared beside him and asked him to calm down and take deep breaths.

After a while Rayne was calm enough to think about all the system notification that he was getting while creating his soul core, he immediately summoned them.

[Congratulations! to be the first human who was able to awaken not only soul space but also a soul core]

'Does this mean that now I am a vampire,'Although Rayne was stunned on the mention of vampire but immediately dismissed it.

Seeing the last notification Rayne immediately willed his new status screen to open.

Seeing the stats Rayne was in a dilemma because he saw that in his race said that he was a human although his aspect is that of a vampire how does this mechanics work but he dismissed it because what his worry was neither ability nor the race, it was the flaw that he would get so he willed it's description to manifest.

'.... I don't have anything to say I guess the flaw is somewhat manageable but the idea of drinking blood just seem gross, disgusting and unhygienic, but why don't I feel like the usual urge of blood drinking,' Rayne thought.

[May be because you are still in the transition phase after all you tried and converted the meager amount of divine energy inside your body to soul energy]

'Oh I guess you are right.'

"All your vitals are normal you are good to go now," Hayley said.

Saying his goodbye to the doctor, he step out from the office and made his way towards the ground floor in hope of meeting with Quinn but his path was blocked by two second-year students who asked him to go to the assembly hall not wanting to get on the bad side of the second-year he made his way toward the assembly hall.

In the assembly hall around a hundred of the first-year had gathered, around them there was not a single teacher but just several of the second-year students. Up on the stage, the curtains were drawn and in front of it stood Momo.

"Welcome every single one of you." Momo said, "Today we have a special event, a special message to all you first years. You see there has been someone going around trying to go against us, thinking he can break the precious system that has been around for years in this school. I am here to tell you that this is what happens to those who do not obey."

Momo pulled down on a piece of string and the curtains on the stage started to be open up, as the curtains moved away slowly it started to reveal a student who had been tied up and placed on a large piece of wood. The student was bloody and had markings of being beaten everywhere.

"Vorden!"

'What the hell did he do now? I really deserve a title like fated, ' Rayne thought.
