Chapter 39: the battle of Saath(Karna's POV)

The alliance army was divided into two halves, one was expanding through Essaria, while the other was defending the city of Saath. The Essarian front marched through the Qohor forest, through a valyrian road. Before the city was gone in the Century of Blood, there was a road connecting it through Qohor. This army contains the joined army of Lys, Myr, Braavos, Anga, Sar Mell, Sarhoy, Ghoyan Drohe, Ny Sar, Ar Noy, Chroyane, and the new principality of Dorne.

Saath is a city in northern Essos at the western end of the Sarne delta along the Shivering Sea. It is west of Sarys and southwest of Morosh, a new settlement of valyria near the Shivering Sea. Saath is connected by a Valyrian road to Essaria farther to the south.

Saath is not the small port that it would become in the future, it is a major port city, that although do not rival Sarhoy's wealth, beauty and glory is comparable to Volantis at its peak. I guess the city would suffer great losses in the Century of Blood, even if it was the only Sarnori city-state to survive with the support of Ibben and Lorath.

Saath together with Sarys were the links that connect the Sarnor Kingdom with the Shivering Sea. From there several luxurious beers, paper, mine salt, and chariots from the Sarnori are exported. They also resell several foreign goods through the Sarne river to the other Sarnori city-states.

It is protected by white walls. The people of Saath still call themselves Tagaez Fen, or Tall Men, after the Sarnori of old. The city has managed to survive with the support of Ib and Lorath. The people of Saath often trade with the Lorathi colony of Morosh.

Saath and its sister city, Sarys, fought the Ibbenese for control over the mouth of the Sarne on several occasions. Saath would be the last surviving remnant of the Kingdom of Sarnor, as the other Sarnori cities, including Sarys, were destroyed by the Dothraki during the Century of Blood.

While our armies settled in Saath, they tried to harass and 'spy' on our armies with dispersed attacks. Sadly this brave one did not escape my radar and got quickly killed. With none of this group returning the valyrians gave up.

The first battle to start was the one in the Saath. It was a sky battle. Valyria took all their 'sky power' to this battle. They were attacking our formation, forming an enormous dragon line, I guess they think this many dragons may scare our army or something. I guess they lack a capable commander.

There were about a thousand dragons in that formation. A dispersed attack would have been smarter, but whatever. I guess it's their problem. As my control and understanding of the shadow mantra increased, I became able to change places with my shadow, so I took the place of Angaraja, and let him rest a bit.

I also transported several canons and gunpowder ballista to both battlefields. I previously avoid mass producing them, because of how hard is to secretly purchase sulfur, because the only places I was sure I could purchase it from were valyria and Dragonstone, both connected to the valyrian empire.

I suspect there might be volcanoes in the North of Westeros, as there is a hot spring in Winterfell, which shows that there is volcanic activity in this region. I was unsuccessful, however. I was able to gradually build a strong supply line from Ib a place filled with inactive volcanoes.

I took the Ember Mulberry Asura Bow and started firing arrows, without rest. Behind me, canons and ballista fired at the dragons slower and with a less precise aim, but it helped a bit. Two minutes later, the battlefield became a dragon cemetery. The land battle followed soon after. Some few were sadly able to run.

The valyrians were in a disadvantaged position, they have about one hundred thousand soldiers, while we have about one hundred and eighty thousand, without counting the thirty thousand soldiers from Saath. The valyrians were supported by forty thousand soldiers of Sarys.

Their infantry numbered about thirty thousand, including the Unsullied army of ten thousand, some other cheap slave soldiers imitations from Gorgossos, and the rest were real elite soldiers from the Empire.

It was a pity that I could not teleport Vorian with me when I reached here. Without using the bow's powers, in my chariot, I started to fire arrows and gradually took down the well-known chariot teams of Sarys, which were the first to advance. Later, I left the chariot took a horse, commanded the cavalry, and quickly swept through valyrian infantry, shooting arrows while afar, and taking my sword went I was near the army.

As I made my way to the army center, the combined army of valyria and Sarys started to retreat. Saath hunted town the Sarys soldiers, while we hunted down the valyrian ones.

Meanwhile, there was silence in Essaria. While our other army sieged Essaria, I took the place of Angaraja again, because I have a bad feeling about the situation, like there was something suspicious there.
