A New Path To Another Dimension

Dantae a teenage boy had his face glued to the blue screen of his phone as he exited the small house along with his parents, as they moved toward the car.

He shivered slightly at the chilly temperature as the snow drizzled down from the dark skies. A sheet of thick ice covered the floor.

"Dantae, help your father with the luggage and put away your phone or I'll help you do it." He heard his mother yell at him and he immediately drove his phone into his pocket before offering his father a hand.

They both shoved the luggage into the boot of the car before setting off to leave and they got into their old car that made a dreadful racket as they drove through the ice-covered road.

He sat in the backseat and both his parents at the passenger and driver's seats.

He stared out the darkness and watched as snowflakes fell from the sky, sighing every second in exasperation and frustration.

He caught his mother watching him through the rearview mirror and he immediately glanced away, knowing she was going to give him another annoying sermon about how life would become promising when he knew it wouldn't.

"Dantae." She called but he scoffed in reply, he didn't want to listen to it, not now when he was trapped in the car with them.

"I'm fine, I'm feeling sleepy." He immediately said nonchalantly, before leaning his head on the window side and shutting his eyes closed.

"I'm sure you'll love the city, it's developed and safer than the town, there's.."

"You're right, the city is a remarkable place, but I'll be treated worse than before, my life will be a total nightmare. Bullying is worse in the city, and the fact we're aren't even well off just makes things worse." He ranted out in anger as he stared out the window, lips quivering from fear, fear that his bullying would get worse in the city and eventually, his life.

He had been prone to bullying for as long as he could recall, he was bullied for a lot of things. His physical appearance wasn't a great sight to look at, he was physically frail and vulnerable and he had a very low social life all thanks to his family's background status.

"The city has more regulations and equality, I'm sure you'll be fine there, right honey?" His mother said with a small smile and he rolled his eyes.

"Equality that doesn't apply to us." He muttered under his breath, not sparing either of them a glance as he continued looking out the window at the beautiful snowflakes that showered from the sky.

"Your mom is right." He heard his father say, but he didn't argue or respond anymore and the whole place fell awkwardly silent as they continued with the long drive.

The thick sheets of ice seemed to increase and expand with every passing moment, they reached the cliff in the mountain which had a road path leading to the city and the path had more thick sheets of ice.

The car swerved a bit to the right and he felt his heart leap to his throat, before he subconsciously rubbed on his chest where a red mark lay underneath.

He was born with a red thorn shaped mark on his right chest, his parents had told him it was nothing but just a birthmark, but he would get a strange feeling from the mark, although he didn't utter a word about it to anyone or he'd be a major freak than he already was.

He continued staring out the window until he finally succumbed into slumber.

Dantae was still fast asleep until he heard the loud screeching of tires and in the next, he could hear a hard bang as the car collided into the iron rails at the edge of the cliff and in a glimpse of an eye, he could feel the car tumbling down the cliff and screams erupted from their lips as it tumbled down.

Everything happened too quickly, Dantae couldn't process what had just transpired, one minute they were on the road, the next they were already crashing down the cliff.

The car was upturned when he opened his eyes with a splitting headache, the windows were shattered and the car was in a horrible condition, he could see the snowflakes settle around him.

His eyes narrowed to his parents who lay unmoving, blood soiled their clothes and he could see in an upside down view, his mother's eyes shut open but she was stiff.

Adrenaline streamed through his veins as he realized his parents was dead and he inwardly wished he would too as life would be far worse without them, it would be hell.

His vision blurred as blood trickled from his head into his eyes, he could feel the life draining quickly from his body as his eyes became a hassle to keep open, the arms of death were as cold as ice but he fell into it's embrace.

He fell into an infinite abyss of void and darkness, floating endlessly in a dark space of nothingness.

After what seemed like an eternity of spacing out, a dim light materialized out of thin air, till he saw himself in a cloudy space, once again staring into a void of space.

After what seemed like yet another eternity had passed him by, he saw himself fleeting through time, but instead of fast forwarding into the future, it felt as though it was rewinding back in time, he could see the skyscrapers and modern houses slowly decrease in size and height.

He could see the population decrease rapidly and then the late 90s came and fleeted before his eyes, along with the 60s until it halted in the ancient historical times.

Before he could process what was happening, his eyelid became heavy and it suddenly shut close as he succumbed to unconsciousness.

He shut his eyes open to be greeted by pure darkness, but it was warm and soothing which made him relax. He stayed in the warm, soothing darkness which felt like another eternity until a bright light manifested making him squint his eyes shut from the harshness of the light on it.

He slowly opened his eyes and he gradually adjusted to the light but he could feel a warm cloth wrapped around his body while a huge gigantic female figure carried him about.

What? Where was he and why was he in the arms of giants? He thought inwardly in a stupefied state.

He noticed they were dressed in traditional Korean hanbok outfit and their hair was styled in the traditional manner.

"Let me down! Who are you?!" He queried but the woman didn't seem to understand a word and instead smiled cheerily at him while she said things he couldn't understand.

At that moment, his previous life flashed in front of his eyes, he could remember his parents and where he came from and he could vividly remember the car wreck they had on the cliff, he had seen both his parents died and he was sure he was dead, he remembered the agonizing pain he felt and the blood oozing out of his head but he could feel nothing.

He felt oddly very tired, and his eyes became heavy, the woman's hold was soothing so he closed his eyes to relax, he would ponder more when he awoke as he was too tired to figure out whatever was occurring.

The woman's eyes widened when her eyes narrowed to his body.

"He has the mark! He'll make a great Hwarang." The woman said excitedly but he couldn't understand a word making him feel disorientated about the strange place he was in.

"I'll call him Hwarang." The mother said as her eyes glistened with unshed tears.

"Hwarang?" The woman holding him questioned.

"Yes, he's my flower and my knight, its a great name, he'll serve the kingdom well." The mother said softly and the other woman nodded in agreement as they stared at the baby who's destiny had already been sealed from birth by the universe.

Dantae had no idea what awaited him in the strange world or what fate would befall him, his future was unforeseen and obscure. Death had unfurled a new path to another dimension of an enigmatic future, where every path he would take would be full of uncertainty and a dark enigmatic fate better left unsealed but not for long.

This book is written based on Korea ancient history though not everything will be purely conveyed as it is a fictional novel, some things might be altered.
