Chapter 84

"Did you have fun peaking at ancient history on this one? Hmm~" The child version of Chynir smiled.

"Your a part of the god Chynir?" Vorbuk shifted into human form and asked as Isis and Leo stood at his sides. They were all guard for the snake to charge at them.

"Indeed. I was created from his mana." He smirked at the sight of the three of them being so cautious.

"So- You're the one who's been raising th-" Vorbuk started to assume it was the child that was raising the dead around the capital's outskirts but his words were quickly cut off by the child.

"Nope! That's the other guy.. You didn't seriously think something to such a scale would be only one of us? My guess is- He's already on his way to the capital of Cista with that thing.." The child intentionally left some details out to make them feel even more frustrated. He wanted to see them tremble. Chynir wanted to see them full of fear. The more they worried the more joy he found in the situation.

Hopping down from the snake, his small body landed gracefully on his feet. As soon as he was on ground level the snake bowed its head so that he could place his palm flat against its head. His eyes slowly turned in the direction of the three of them and he smiled warmly.

"Pity you wont be leaving my illusion to meet him." The tone in his voice was empty.

The head of the giant snake shot forth so fast that they barely had time to jump out of the way. Its face slamming so hard into the ground where they had been that dirt and rocks went flying. A few rocks shooting threw nearby trees like bullets.

"Leo!" Vorbuk shouted as he glanced over to quickly make sure the others had made it out of the way as well.

A deep bellowing sound could be heard under the sound of the snake as it pulled its head back. Flicking its tongue out every so often so that it could sense their locations the snake prepared itself to take action again.

Shifting back into his wolf form Vorbuk dashed for the side of the snake. If they all stood together he felt they would be easier to target all at once. He could already see Leo and Isis preparing their swords from the corner of his eye as he ran.

When the snake turned its head to follow Vorbuk's quick movement the ground vibrated beneath their feet. Baring large pointed fangs the snake slammed into the ground at Vorbuk. It had been a close impact and he had hardly managed to dodge. A piece of rock that had shot from the ground upon impact had managed to graze the side of his face.

Muttering some words under his breath in order to activate his fire magic Leo held his blade in his hand. It was a level of his magic that he rarely used because it was exhausting on his mana. Leo was not one who was built for long term magic. That was why he rarely used even the simplest of spells such as his fireball he'd use rarely in front of Vorbuk.

A blazing fire began to slowly envelope around his blade. Gripping his sword firmly as he readied himself to move. Leo could see the beast still focusing on Vorbuk but he knew the wolf would only be able to hold its attention for a short time. He could not stall or he would loose the first friend he could honestly tell himself he'd made in his life.

Swinging his blade through the air at the snake while channeling the fire within himself the prince sent wave after wave of blazing flames in the direction of the snake. The flames cut through the air like blades. As they impacted against the body of the snake they left heavy gashes in the body of the beast. It felt terrifying yet at the same time could mesmerize someone.

The snake let out a howling hiss that resounded far and wide. There was no telling how large the illusion they were in was but the sound up close felt as if their ear drums would be blown. As painful as the cry from the beast was to be heard Leo held himself on to continuing his attack. The expression on his face was enough to know he was holding in his pain.

The rage within the snake could be seen escalating as the waves of flames continued to be sent at it. Twisting its body about it sent its body straight down at prince Leo with its mouth wide open.

"Leo!" Both Isis and Vorbuk called out to him in unison.

Before they could react Leo was already inside the snake's mouth. His feet pressing downward as his shoulders struggled to keep the top of the snakes mouth from closing down on him. The blade of his sword was still firm in his hands as he was pressing the blade brutally straight up through the roof of the snakes mouth.

Leo was beginning to feel faint. His mana had completely drained him into a state of exhaustion and if he kept going he knew he would fall unconscious. That was why he refused to use magic outside of emergencies.

The flame that once blazed proudly around him was beginning to fade as he struggled.

Just a bit more.. He thought to himself as he tried to hold on. As he pushed himself he felt as though he could hear someone calling his name.

"Are you planning to die with it?!" Vorbuk's voice resounded as he felt someone's body slam against his. He was being moved so quickly that he didn't have time to refuse.

Leo's blurry vision was filled with the sight of the snake as he was descending from the air in Vorbuk's arms. He felt ashamed at the fact that his chance had failed.

"Take care of him." Vorbuk said as he passed Leo over to Isis so she could help him remain standing. The prince was awake and barely able to remain that way. If he kept going without taking a rest he would only become a burden and die.

"What are you going to do?" Princess Isis asked as she stood there holding Leo up with her shoulder. She wanted to help but she knew Leo was important to Vorbuk and she could not abandon him when he asked her to help him.

"... Just make sure neither of you get in the way. It'll be hard for you to dodge while carrying that foolish prince." Vorbuk sighed as he gave her the simplest response he could. He could not come up with any other response to give her. After all, he did not know what he was planning to do either.

I guess we are both fools at the end, huh? Vorbuk snickered as he thought that and turned back into his wolf form. He had to save as much mana as he could so he could not waste it on his shifting ability or he would end up no better then the prince had.
