Shnnggg! Thud!
Curtis's sword cut through the enemy knights one after another. Blood dripping from his blade as he dropped one man down after another. After gaining power from his deal with the god Chynir average people were not his match. Every motion he made held speed and power beyond their own.
"How long are you going to waste your time on this battlefield? Your brother is heading towards Theapan. Are you deliberately wasting time?" Chynir was displeased with how mortals wasted their time on useless things.
"Theapan? Why would he go somewhere like that?" Curtis thought it over and laughed under his breath. He could not imagine his brother going somewhere so dangerous for their family.
"He's becoming quite a nuisance." Chynir remained in the shade of a nearby tree so that others could not notice him from a distance on the battlefield.
Sounds of screams from those fighting and dying around the battlefield filled the air. Scents of iron and dirt drifting throughout the wind. It was a massacre on the field as Cadirade and Ethiadan fought against one another. The terrain was already stained in death after so many generations of war that nobody believed the land would be able to recover its glory even if the war one day came to an end.
I am so sick of father having the general keep me here! If the general died in action I would at least.. Curtis grit his teeth together.
"Curtis! You should take some time to go and rest yourself. If his highness falls due to over work on the battlefield I would not be able to face his majesty." General Edgar requested as he walked in the prince's direction. He could not see Chynir as the god had already made himself vanish from sight at the sound of the general approaching.
"Fufufu! Are you really going to continue listening to these people? Your own people are looking down on you and you're going to go along with it?" Chynir's voice whispered like a soft, cold, breeze in Curtis's ear.
"Are you looking down on me too?" Curtis muttered under his breath causing the general to give him a puzzled look. The only one who could hear the god's whispering was the prince. Every word making him stiff with hatred.
"Your Highness, I have been loyal to the royal family of Cadirade for years. I would never look down on you or any member of the royal family. It is merely the king's order to watch over you in battle." General Edgar did not agree with how Prince Curtis acted. Yet he would never consider disrespecting and looking down on those he served under. He was loyal with all his heart to his king therefore he would put his life on the line to protect the princes of Cadirade.
"Merely words of a servant of the king." Chynir's mocking laughter could be heard in Curtis's ear once more.
General Edgar stepped past Curtis in order to check the area for signs of more enemies. No signs were visible and the area was quiet. Every time he glanced back to check if the prince was still there he could see Curtis standing in place without a word.
"You've done a great job of help on the field, your highness. His majesty will be proud of the work you've done for the kingdom." Edgar honestly wanted to praise the prince's work. It was not easy to survive the battlefield for humans but he was unaware of the truth that Curtis was no longer simply human because of the scroll he had been gifted by serving Chynir.
Curtis slowly began to step towards the general from behind. In his hand was his sword he had been using to slay enemies as he found them. Blood was still dripping from the blade. Gritting his teeth together his mind contemplated carefully.
"General?" Curtis grinned like a wolf among sheep.
Gaining the attention of General Edgar the man turned around to look at Curtis. The second his body turned around the long cold blade of the prince's sword found its way straight through Edgar's stomach. There was no time to react as Curtis's movements were too quick for the general's human speed to react in such an unexpected situation. Curtis was holding the sword in his hand as he felt the warm blood of Edgar flowing from the wound.
"Y-Your... Highness.." General Edgar struggled to understand why the prince would drive a sword through his own loyal general.
Curtis was not a fool when it came to the general's loyalty. He knew that General Edgar's main loyalty was not with him but his own father. For someone who was out for the throne of Cadirade he could not allow the general to continue to live.
Scanning the area he could tell that nobody was around to have seen his betrayal. Removing his blade from General Edgar's body as the man fell to the ground. He was no longer living but the prince would need an excuse for why the general had fallen in battle in such a place.
That night Prince Curtis took one step his brother was not yet aware of but would be before long.
After killing the general of Cadirade with his own hands, Curtis, found a random soldier. Personally getting the knight alone and removing his tongue in order to frame him as a traitor to the kingdom. The innocent knight that had been framed for the murder of General Edgar was unable to object to anything spoken by Curtis in his situation. Bound by ropes and without a tongue he could only shudder in fear as his life was taken so that Curtis could secure his own position to take over at General.
"This knight is a traitor to the kingdom of Cadirade! He shall be punished by death! Under orders of the crown prince Leo he was sent in order to assassinate a member of the royal family! From here on I shall lead the knights under my own command until matters are resolved and a new general is appointed!" Curtis grinned that night as he spoke to the knights of Cadirade.
It was all a lye that he was going to find a new general as soon as possible. Without a general to control the knights, as the prince, he had every right to take control of them himself without the king being able to object. Only a member of the royal family could appoint a new general and his father was not on the battlefield to learn of the situation right away. By the time the king would come to learn of the situation it would already be too late to stop the rumors from getting out.
Throwing his own brother's name into the fire of his own lies. With those words he said it did not matter how much those who knew prince Leo trusted the crown prince because nothing could stop a wildfire of rumors from spreading among the people of Cadirade. All it took was one person's gossip and the rumor would even escape the bounds of Cadirade Kingdom and cross into other kingdoms as well.
