Chapter 74: The Metropolis

We had a morning meeting with our group, where we discussed our next steps. The scouts had returned with some good news and some bad news. The good news was that the immediate vicinity seemed clear of threats, and we had some time to breathe. The bad news was that there were still more zombies in the area, and we didn't know when they would attack again.

"We should send more scouts, we can't let our guard down," Rex suggested. He was one of the scouts, and he had seen the horrors of the horde. "We need to know where the horde is, and if there are any other survivors or enemies nearby."

"He's right, we can't afford to have another horde coming to us. We may have won today, but we never know what the future will hold," Roger agreed.

"Alright, we'll send more scouts. Lily and Nana, you will be in charge of the scout team. Don't attack the zombies, okay? Just observe and report," I said.

Lily nodded, "Okay, we'll do our best." Nana replied, "Yeah, yeah, whatever." She was the younger sister, and she was more carefree and reckless.

"Shana, Roger, and Rex, get your teams to scout the surrounding bases. Either use this chance to make them join us, or use this chance to destroy them," I said.

They nodded in agreement, "Yes, sir. We'll be back soon."

Then Mathew spoke up, "We should also consider fortifying our base further. It's clear we can't let our guard down, and with the resources from the destroyed bases, we can improve our defenses." He was the leader of the building them, he was the one who created the medieval machines. He was an engineer, and he had a lot of ideas on how to make our base stronger.

I nodded in agreement, recognizing the importance of securing our stronghold. "Alright, organize teams to collect materials, repair damaged sections, and enhance the existing barriers. Jenny and Mathew, you guys will be in charge of this one," I said. Jenny has a lot of charismatic in terms of the civilians, they love her and will do whatever she asked them to.

They both nodded, "Yes, sir. We'll get right on it."

The civilians, who had shown their courage and value in the battle, eagerly joined the efforts. They wanted to contribute, and they wanted to feel safe.

"We'll focus on fortifying our base first, before anything else. After that, we'll talk," I said, ending the meeting.

Throughout the day, we worked hard, rebuilding what the horde had damaged and reinforcing our walls. The machines that had saved us during the night were given extra attention, to ensure they would be ready for any future assaults. We also added some new features, such as spikes, barbed wire, and electric fences. We wanted to make our base a fortress, a place where we could live and thrive.

We had a meeting with our group at noon, where we reviewed our progress. The base looked more secure than ever, thanks to our hard work and determination. We had repaired the damage from the horde, and we had reinforced the walls with spikes, barbed wire, and electric fences. We had also improved the medieval machines, making them more reliable and effective.

Three days had passed since the horde had attacked us, and we had learned a lot from our scouts. They had mapped out the surrounding area, and they had identified potential threats and resources. They had also found some other survivor groups, who had managed to survive the horde as well.

We discussed how to expand our influence, and how to establish alliances with the other groups. We knew that we couldn't survive alone, and that we needed to cooperate with others. Our victory against the horde had not only strengthened our bonds within the base, but also fueled our desire to rebuild some semblance of civilization in this apocalyptic world.

Nightfall came again, and we knew we had to be vigilant. We set up watch rotations, and made sure everyone had a role in case of an attack. The night air was tense and cold, but we also felt a new confidence. We had survived the worst, and we had proven our strength.

As the stars came out, I stood on the walls, watching over the base. The night was full of secrets, but we were ready to face whatever challenges it brought. The survivors had become a family, bound not only by the shared struggle for survival, but also by the hope we had found in each other.

As the leader, I took a moment to reflect on our journey so far. We had come a long way from the initial chaos, and we had overcome many obstacles. We still faced many uncertainties, but we faced them together. The future was unpredictable, but as the moon shone on the night, we stood united, ready for whatever came our way.

The journey continued, and so did our story in this world reshaped by the undead.
