Chapter 66: Building the Base (2)

"We've already raided the groups in the vicinity. In the next three days, we'll loot the marketplace, no, the whole city." I informed them, outlining our plan.

They all smiled, and agreed to my plan. This time, we were not a small group. We had all the best fighters, consisting of 300 people, to attack the city. We had enough weapons, supplies, and vehicles to carry out our mission.

Over the next three days, we made our way to the city. We hid in the outskirts, waiting for the right moment to strike. We were going to take everything we wanted, and leave nothing behind.

I had a clear objective in mind: to secure the area by sealing off the exit after our group lured the zombies outside, making sure that they would have a hard time to go back. And we would use that time to take everything we could.

And with that, we proceeded with our plan. Some of our people who were good with motorcycles, baited the zombies, firing guns and driving all over the city, attracting them and making them chase them out of the city.

The zombies didn't have a brain to think, they relied on their instincts, and they ran towards the people on motorcycles moving away from the city. Thousands of zombies, horde of them followed the people in motorcycle. After half an hour, they all left.

We took the chance and we secured the perimeter to make sure they would have a hard time going back. We used forklifts to move the destroyed cars and make a wall.

We then eliminated all the zombies inside bit by bit. We fired a gun into the air, attracting the attention of nearby zombies who began converging on our location. The zombies that were left inside the city were the ones who were too slow to catch the people on motorcycles.

As we killed the zombies that were left behind, others also started looting places that they knew that had resources, including stores, the marketplace, malls, car dealerships, etc. We searched every corner and took everything that was useful or valuable. We loaded our trucks and cars with food, water, medicine, clothes, electronics, weapons, and more. We were going to make the most out of this opportunity.

As we were looting the city, a group of survivors emerged from a bunker. They were wearing police and other official uniforms, and among them was the mayor. He was a fat man in a black suit, holding a cigar in his hand. He looked like a gangster boss or something.

A policeman stepped forward and said, "We thank you for taking care of those brainless monsters. We offer our thanks to your leader." He said. He looked strong, judging by his posture and his body. He also had some scars and injuries, indicating that he had faced many hardships.

I stepped forward and said, "I am the leader." They stared at me, probably surprised by my young age. I sighed, it was going to happen again, huh? How tiring.

However, to my surprise, the policeman bowed and so did his companions. "We thank you for saving our lives." He said. The mayor, however, still had a smug look on his face and didn't seem to respect me.

"To give you a reward for saving us," a man in a black suit then went towards him and put a briefcase on the ground. He opened it and said, "Will these be enough?" He said. The briefcase was filled with gold bars.

My companions looked at each other, and after a moment of silence, they all burst into laughter. "I-Is there something wrong?" He asked.

I smirked and said, "Let's take this more seriously now, shall we? We all know that money and gold have no value now." I said, thinking they were joking.

They all looked confused. I sighed and said, "It seems like you have been hiding in the bunker for so long that you don't know what is happening in the world now." I said.

Then, the fat mayor stepped in. "Hoh? And what would a kid know about the world, eh?" He said with a smug. Then, my companions suddenly pointed their guns at them with bloodlust.

"Oh? You think you can scare me with those toys of yours? Do you really not know who I am? Even if you kill me, you can't get away with it." He said, keeping the smug on his face. It was disgusting.

"Who are you?" I asked casually. I didn't really know him, but he thought too highly of himself. I needed to be cautious.

"I am the mayor of this city! The one who will run for the next president!" He said proudly. We all looked at him in silence. I then broke the silence and said, "I see, the president, huh..."

"That's right! Now bow down to me! If you do that now, I don't mind giving you a position in the government-" Before he could finish talking, I shot his right foot. "AAAHHUHHHGGHHH!!! HOW DARE YOU!! DID YOU NOT HEAR WHAT I SAID!?" He shouted in pain as he lay down on the ground. His lackeys backed down and pointed their guns at us.

"I heard you loud and clear!" I shouted back. "Then why-" I shot him again in his left foot. "GADDAMNIIT!!! LET ME FINISH TALKING!" He shouted in pain. "The government has been long gone, stupid." I said. "WHAT THE FCK ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT!?" He said, refusing to believe me.

I raised my voice and shouted at them "The government has long collapsed! the military has gone rogue, before the government collapsed they announced a last announcement that the country is now in martial law! Money is worthless now, and so is your client. He can't buy your loyalty anymore. Drop your guns and join us, or die with him!"

They hesitated, unsure of what to do. They had been hired by the mayor, a corrupt and greedy politician who had exploited the people for his own gain. He had promised them a fortune for protecting him, but now the world had turned into hell.

"Shut up! Don't listen to him! I'll pay you millions, just get me out of here!" The mayor screamed, trying to sound confident, but his voice betrayed his fear.

That's when Roger stepped in. a former mercenary who had seen the horrors of war and decided to fight for a better cause. He spoke calmly and confidently to the them. "You're mercenaries, right? I can tell by the way you move and how you guard this piece of trash. You're only here for the money, because he's rich and he can afford you."

He took off his shirt, revealing his scars. It covered his entire body, a testament to his experience and endurance. I muttered a curse under my breath "Damn" I had seen his wounds before, but they still shocked me. He continued, "I was a mercenary too, but I retired. I realized that money can't buy happiness, peace, or justice. I joined this group because I believe in their cause. We're fighting for a new world, a world where people like him" he pointed at the mayor "can't exploit and oppress the masses. We're fighting for freedom, equality, and democracy. And we need your help. You can still join us, I can vouch for you. But you have to make a choice, now."

They looked at each other, unsure of what to do. They were torn between their greed and their conscience, between their fear and their hope. The mayor sensed their hesitation and tried to sway them back to his side. "Fuck this! I paid for you guys! I own you! You have to listen to me!" He shouted, but his words fell on deaf ears. They had seen through his lies and his arrogance. They felt nothing but disgust and contempt for him. They walked away from him and towards us, joining our ranks. "Shit! Shit! You'll all pay for this!" He kept ranting, but no one cared.

"Prove your loyalty," I said to them, handing them each a pistol. They nodded and aimed at the mayor, who was now begging for his life. They pulled the triggers, ending his miserable existence. "Is this enough?" One of them asked me coldly. I smiled and shook his hand. "Yeah, that's enough. Welcome to the team. Roger will be your mentor from now on."

"Thank you for having us," he said, and the others echoed him. We had gained eight new allies, and lost one enemy. It was a good day.

With that, we continued looting the city. I had almost all of my group members with me, as we looted the huge city that had been abandoned for months. It took us a week to clear out everything we could find, taking everything that we could carry.
