Chapter 58: The Base (2)

"Why not clear the village where we found Mr. Roger? That place has a school right? And it is also connected to nearby villages by road. We could use that as our base, build large walls around it, and divide it into three sections, since there are two villages nearby. Not only that we can also let the newcomers to experience killing zombies. How about we clear out the school and make it the military base since the school is connecting the villages anyway? We haven't looted that place yet, right? As for Mr. Rex's concern, we could cut down the trees around the village, so we can have a better view of the zombies if they ever come," she said, pointing at the map.

The room was silent for a moment, as everyone was stunned by Nana's proposal. It was remarkable that such a well-thought-out plan came from a kid. I looked at the map, and considered the viability of Nana's idea. The school could have valuable resources, such as books, medicine, and equipment. The village could be transformed into a fortified base, with enough space and facilities for all of us. The idea of involving the newcomers in zombie combat training also had its merits, as it would make them stronger and more confident. I nodded, impressed by Nana's unexpected wisdom. "Nana, that's an excellent suggestion. Let's explore the village and the school, see if they are suitable for our base, and discuss the details further," I said, feeling hopeful.

We ended our meeting after an hour of discussion. We agreed that we needed to find a new base as soon as possible, as the mansion was too crowded and the tents were too exposed. The next morning, we gathered our supplies and loaded up the trucks and cars. We had about 200 people in our group who volunteered to come, including the ones who were already living in the mansion. We drove towards the villages, which was about an hour away from the mansion. We arrived without any major issues, except for a few zombies on the road. We got out of the vehicles and looked at the school building.

"So, this is the school, huh?" I said, feeling curious as I put down the binocular.

Steff, who was standing next to me, said, "Are you feeling Dejavu?"

Amy, who was standing next to me, said, "Ours was much bigger, right?"

I chuckled and said, "Well, kinda, and this is the school for the two villages. You can't expect it to be as large as ours."

"Alright, you guys help them if necessary, okay?" I instructed my men, who were loyal and experienced fighters. They nodded in agreement, ready to support the newcomers. I gathered everyone and had them line up, preparing for the imminent zombie attack.

"Alright, remember, to kill them, you need to slice or stab the brain. That's the only way to kill them. With that being said, let's begin," I explained, raising my pistol and firing a shot into the air.

The noise attracted a swarm of zombies, which began to approach us. We are just the entrance of the village, swarm of zombies from both villages came rushing towards us. The recruits started to feel the pressure as the zombies closed in. I noticed their hesitation and sighed.

Walking toward the approaching zombies, I unsheathed my katana and effortlessly dispatched them, showcasing my skills with ease. The recruits watched in awe as I moved with precision, almost like I wasn't human.

"Is he even human?" one of the recruits whispered.

"Are you just going to stand there and watch? Don't let him steal all the spotlight!" Roger shouted, urging them into action. He was the leader of a mercenary group that we had found in the village near the school. He had joined us with his men, hoping to find a better place to live.

Motivated by Roger's words, they screamed and ran towards the zombies, joining the battle. Rex and Roger also joined in, fighting alongside the recruits. With the girls' and others' support, we managed to fend off the zombies, preventing anyone from getting bitten. The girls were Shana. Amy and Steff, my childhood friends. They were good at shooting and providing cover fire.

The skirmish escalated as the recruits gained confidence, each striking the zombies with more force and accuracy. I led the charge, slicing through the undead with my katana. The recruits faced the grim reality of fighting the zombies, but they overcame their fear and followed our example.

In the midst of the chaos, Shana's sharpshooting skills were invaluable, sniping the zombies from a safe distance. Amy coordinated with the group, ensuring a strategic and organized defense. Steff displayed her expertise in close-quarters combat, taking down the zombies that got too close.
