Chapter 137: What do you think?

The soldier chuckled, his laughter cutting through the ambient sounds of the frontline. "What do you think about the frontline?" he inquired.

"Not what I expected," Allen admitted. "I anticipated a more somber atmosphere, constant fighting, blood, and casualties."

Sharing a knowing smile, the soldier replied, "Same here. When I was first deployed, I had similar expectations. But as you can see, we were both wrong. Casualties are rare in outposts, even on the frontline. The real danger lies with the scouts exploring the land and elite soldiers clashing with other bases. This area became a frontline due to the surrounding hordes, especially being close to large cities and towns with high populations."

Allen nodded in agreement. "That's precisely why we relocated to the abandoned city."

"Oh, so you're the leader of that base," the soldier remarked. "We've encountered your people during our patrols, but you seemed to ignore us."

Smirking, Allen replied, "Yeah, we thought you were a formidable group, given your advanced weapons. I never imagined you were part of Lunaria, especially with the rumors about your reliance on medieval arms."

The soldier burst into laughter, echoing across the frontline. "HAHAHAHA, those rumors have proven quite effective, it seems."

As the soldier's laughter subsided, he gestured towards the activities around them. "You'll get used to the routine here. It's not always about intense battles; sometimes, it's about staying vigilant and maintaining a strong defense against the undead. We've managed to create a balance between survival and strategic engagements."

Allen observed the soldiers practicing with their weapons, the meticulous maintenance of firearms, and the occasional banter among comrades. The frontline, with its organized chaos, felt like a paradoxical blend of camaraderie and the ever-present threat of the undead.

The soldier continued, "And now that you're here, you'll have the chance to contribute. The King himself came to witness the situation. Quite rare, I must say."

Allen raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Why would the King bother to come here? What's his interest in a simple horde?"

The soldier's expression grew serious. "There might be more to this horde than meets the eye. Some believe it's a diversion for a larger threat, while others speculate it could be a strategic move by rival factions. Regardless, we follow orders and maintain our defenses."

"I can see that, this outpost can become a base if you all wanted to, after all, this is a town. But it's also a good idea that you made it into a fortress because this is the only route to go to your base."

"Correct, this town is big, and the same goes for the other frontline fortress. The only route that can get you into the kingdom has become a fortress for fighting people and zombies."

"That's a good strategy," Allen acknowledged, contemplating the tactical advantages of such a stronghold. The soldier led him further into the bustling frontline, explaining the intricacies of their defensive measures and how they managed the constant threat of the undead.

As they walked, the soldier pointed out various sections of the makeshift fortress, from watchtowers scanning the horizon to barricades reinforced to withstand both the dead and potential human threats. The atmosphere was a blend of caution and purpose, with soldiers maintaining a vigilant eye on the surroundings.

Allen absorbed the details, recognizing the military precision in their actions. Despite his earlier expectations, the frontline was a complex web of strategies, a testament to the adaptability required in a world overrun by zombies.
