Bang, bang, bang—
"Is anyone there?!" The people outside were growing impatient, and the pounding on the door became more intense.
Chloe huddled behind the door, her breathing becoming rapid and heavy. The fear and helplessness from the violent debt collection surrounded Chloe from all sides, making it difficult for her to catch her breath. The sensation would be unforgettable for her throughout her life.
After an unknown amount of time, the noises outside finally ceased.
However, Chloe still dared not open the door. She feared that the group might not have gone far, afraid they would return.
Then, she heard someone outside speaking, likely other residents in the building.
"Why is the doorstep covered in paint? It stinks!"
"Isn't there something about debt and repayment written on it? Looks like debt collectors came knocking."
"Oh, how unlucky."
The sudden ringing brought Chloe back from the depths of her fear.
"Hello."
