DEVON'S POV

I remained seated at the center of the high table, burying my head between my hands, unable to believe the chaos that was unraveling around me. The elders were screaming at the top of their lungs at each other, each of them hurling the harsh punishments they wished would befall Rachel, each suggestion being more harsh than the last. 

I let out a deep breath, paying no heed to whatever they were saying. Despite the overwhelming evidence, I still found it incredibly difficult to believe Rachel would try to hurt me, talk less of killing me. How could she do this to me? I know we aren't exactly on talking terms; things have been rocky between us for some days now, but killing me is something entirely different.
