Chapter 129

I tossed the scroll case containing my five sealed clones with nearly full chakra into the air a couple of times, and sighed as the day finally arrived for me to start repairing Saya's spine.

It seemed easy to recruit five kage bunshin with as much chakra as possible, but in practice, the task had taken a couple months or so. Given my schedule of practicing, training, and working - this sort of thing was to be expected. To be left with almost no chakra when you have a full day of chores and worries ahead of you is highly short-sighted.

Of course, I could always use Akamichi's pills, but I wasn't comfortable with the side effects. Maybe in the future they'll come up with a more usable product, but for now, chakra-repair pills were draining my body's reserves quite a bit, which I, with my intense physical training and a few hours of sleep, could not allow, even with all of Uzumaki's stamina.

The only good news is that the reserve has started to grow even faster with the increased exertion, but the control as a result is not increasing at all, struggling to stay at the same level. A dozen bunshin was clearly not enough anymore.

Humming to myself, I unsealed the scroll and unfolded it, inspecting the five kanji 'humans' in the middle of the restraining seals one after another.

Another reason to envy the skill of the unknown Uzumaki who created such a wonder of fuinjutsu. Although, I suspect it was Mito, because in her library, which was left to me as a reward for "helping the clan survive", I found a detailed process for creating scrolls that could contain living people with developed chakra channels or artifacts like Samehada.

Anyway, the thought of supplying the creation of such portable prisons, or handing out sealed clones as support, died down when calculating the cost of the materials needed, at least for one. And that's even without the protective cover being nearly indestructible.

So, the small gift of Mito, which was in my hands, cost as a decent house in not the cheapest neighborhood of Konoha. And I'm still a long way from being able to create the seals I need, let alone apply the Fuin with a simple touch, which is required in some stages of creation. The amount of chakra required is not worth mentioning at all....

After printing out the clones, I rolled up the scroll and put it away in the pouch, setting it aside.

- Time, boss? - One of the bunshin kage asked. - For me, not a moment had passed.

- Hard to expect otherwise," I shrugged, "or the prisoners would have starved to death from hunger and lack of air.

- Did you recheck the seal? - The other clone asked.

- A few times," I nodded, "blow downstairs, and I'll go get Saya, it's time to put what I've learned into practice.

I used the past time not only to collect chakra, but also to study in more depth the work of the spinal cord, its restoration, as well as the interconnectedness of the nervous system in the body, adding knowledge to the already read treatises on similar areas. Not the easiest of topics, even for those who have received a medical degree. Fortunately, the Iryonins in this world favor practical knowledge over the abstruse theory of the past world, so it made my job easier to some extent.

Once again studying the treatises of various luminaries of local medicine, I was amazed at the lopsidedness of the available knowledge - almost all of the conducted research covered only a few areas directly related to the activities of shinobi. For example, an experienced iryo-nin can reattach a severed limb in the field, but at the same time, he is unable to re-grow it even if he is provided with all the necessary conditions. An eye transplant? Right now!

Growing or repairing it after a severe injury is impossible! The main task of a well-trained medic is to heal his comrade and, if possible, to defend himself against the enemy. That's it. Only the best Iryo-nin are capable of treating various nasty diseases, and even then, if we remember Hayate and his chronic cough, it doesn't always work.

All clans are engaged in genetics and eugenics, but again at the level of trial and error, without a solid scientific basis. It simply does not occur to them that the creation of research institutes will bring much more benefit than closed clan research. And hardly anything will change in the near future - the eternal suspicion of shinobi and the desire to keep the discovered knowledge even from the closest allies contributes to the emergence of a serious brake on the development of science. Sometimes knowledge is simply lost with the extinction of living carriers, as many secrets are simply not trusted on paper. Specifics of the world. And I won't say that it makes me sad - at least there is no such a cloaca of excrement in the environment as in the previous world.

There are no modified foods and the air and water are crystal clear, and the people are almost universally healthy and haven't even heard of the vast array of diseases that plagued humans in the past world. The locals wouldn't understand it, but I'm willing to cling to the life I have at any cost, despite the harshness of the world outside Konoha's walls.
