Red Mark of Fate

"What's that smell?" Taiga asked her brusquely cutting her off. "What?" She could tell her brother was angry. This surprised her. He almost never got angry with her. What was his problem she thought. "Also where did you get this sweater. I don't remember ever seeing you wearing it." He asked again. Megumi could feel her heart beating out of her chest. She started to panic but quickly composed herself, putting on a poker face. "A friend let me borrow it okay, its not a big deal, get off my case." She said shrugging him off. But his grip on her arm got tighter. "No, that smell. It doesn't smell like Rin and I know you don't have any other friend's so who is it?" "What? Rude! I have other friends!" She said feeling offended, despite his words being the truth. " I swear to God Megumi, don't lie to me. Who gave this to you because the smell coming out of you is the scent of a prey, and a deer no less." Megumi cursed inwardly. She forgot how good her brother's sense of smell was. It almost rivalled her own. Megumi didn't bother trying to hide it, she couldn't lie to her brother anyway. "So what if it is? Where's the problem in that?" Her words seemed to anger her brother even more. "Where's the problem in that?! Megumi are you serious?" "Do you not realize how dangerous this is?" Megumi looked at him confused. Taira couldn't help sighing seeing how genuinely lost his sister was. "Having a deer's scent on you is a form of marking Megumi. It's a form of submission for wolves!" This revelation shocked Megumi almost beyond repair. "How can a wolf submit to its prey?!" In what world did that make sense? ************************************************************************************************** Megumi Ahane, born into a wealthy family and blessed with wolf genes resents the life she has to live. In a world where you are either prey or predator, Megumi finds herself in a conflicting position where she has to choose between rejecting the genes she was born with or giving in to fate. ************************************************************************************************** Note: This story takes place in a modern setting but has some fantastical elements to it. There are a couple of twists and turns as well as some betrayal but overall there's not too much toxicity between the protagonist and the male lead. This story is both short and sweet.

30. Tenkousei = Transfer student

The car ride was silent as the Ahane family made their way back home.

Every single person in the car was lost in their own thoughts. Even little Reo kept quiet, silently playing with his game console.

It wasn't until they got home that Naoko spoke.

"So what did you think?" She asked Megumi.

"...I only met him once so it's hard to decide right now. I mean we barely even talked to each other." She sighed.

"Well, you guys will have plenty of opportunities at school. Megumi, you really need to make an effort, don't just brush things off and hope they will go away. You have to at least try." She warned her daughter.

"I know. I'll try." Not. She thought.

The topic was dropped after that, and the Ahane family spend their weekend like usual.

Seeing how the tense mood was now gone, little Reo went back to being his cute and energetic self.

...........................

Monday had arrived and everyone in class 3-A was patiently waiting for the homeroom teacher to arrive.

"Hey, I heard there's going to be another transfer student." One of the girls gossiped.

"Really? Another one? Do you know who it is?"

"Not sure who it is but I think he comes from a pretty big family."

"You think he'll be another hunk?"

"Girl, let's not get our hopes up. God already blessed us with Rin Hoshimiya, let's not push our luck."

Seno who heard their gossiping couldn't help but interject. "Hey what about the rest of us?"

They turned to look at Seno. Seno was indeed good looking but he couldn't be measured against Rin's beauty.

There were actually quite a few good looking guys in their class, some girls even had their eyes on Kanae but would never consider approaching him given his status.

It was a shame considering how attractive Kanae was. He was like the delicate princes in those old school shoujo mangas, the one's you could admire from afar but never covet.

The girls didn't want to give Seno an even bigger head so they chose to ignore him.

Just then, Eda-sensei entered the classroom.

"Class, before we begin, I would like to introduce a new classmate that will be joining us." He then gestured for the student to come in.

There were loud gasps heard in the classroom from the girls mostly.

They could feel their hearts beating faster and the looks in their eyes nearly scared the boys. A tall boy with a muscular build, his fluffed obsidian hair went pass his neck making him look effortless. The boy's azure coloured eyes were so mesmerising you could get lost in them. It felt like the deeper you stared into his eyes, the more they pulled you in.

He had tan skin free of any blemish giving his complexion a healthy glow and a strong jawline that made his boyish features look sharper. His full lips were formed in a scowl and you could tell the boy was annoyed with the stares he was getting.

But could you blame them? Not only were his looks S tier level, but his presence was hard to miss. The aura around him was strong and unyielding, leaving no room for anyone to come in. It added a mysterious air around him and all the girls were digging it.

"Please introduce yourself." Eda-sensei said, breaking everyone from their daze.

"I am Beaux Kazekami from the wolf family. Please take care of me." He said plainly.

Eda-sensei cleared his throat at his short introduction. He was hinting at Beaux to continue.

Beaux rolled his eyes but complied. "I use to study at London Academy and have lived in England my whole life. I am still in the process of learning Japanese so please refrain from talking to me unless necessary." He coldly said.

The teacher let out a nervous laugh at the last comment he made.

Great, another difficult student, he thought while looking towards Ahane's direction.

Wolves were notoriously difficult creatures to control and only liked to work at their own pace. Not only that, they had a tendency to ignore other people of power since they didn't like to be looked down upon. And this was something that was sometimes done unconsciously.

Luckily he had a student like Ahane who didn't undermine his authority too much, but he still found it hard to ask her to do things in the classroom. He only hoped that this new student would be reasonable too.

The students on the other hand didn't find any offence to what Beaux had said since they were use to it having Ahane in their class.

They were rather curious of the boy and one bold student raised their hand to ask him a question.

Eda-sensei let the student speak.

"Just wondering, how do you spell Beaux?" She asked.

All the other student also nodded their heads. They were unfamiliar with the name and wanted to know how it was spelled so they could pronounce it correctly. Beaux grabbed a piece of chalk and wrote his name the black board.

He wrote the English way of spelling his name first and then he wrote his name using katakana* to help his Japanese classmates pronounce the name.

"ボウ." Was written in a clear and neat handwriting.

"Well if that's all, Kazekami-kun you can take a seat at the back." He gestured to an open seat at the back of the class that was near Megumi and Rin's seat.

He made his way towards his new seat and sat down, ignoring the looks his was receiving.

During that whole time, Kanae's face looked extremely tense almost embittered and Reina who had been observing him shot him a dark smile.

*Katakana is a writing system in Japanese usually used for borrowed words.
