"The subspecies of purple Worms Called Desert Runners are one of the most lethal predators you can find in the desert. They can easily move through sand, and their mouths are big enough to swallow any humanoid whole. They also can reach some pretty high-speeds in the desert, they would usually jump in and out of the sand, impulsing themselves to get faster. With the right condition, they can outrun most normal beings in the desert." ~Alt Jin Book page 329 ~
"They also can easily navigate in the sand and swim in it like a fish swims in water. Due to years of adapting and some unexpected mutations, they also developed some kind of sonar that makes it incredibly easy to detect prey in the sand."~Alt Jin Book page 329 ~
"Be wary though that most purple worms don't have a weak point per see. Yes, they may have elemental weakness depending on their subspecies. But they don't have a glaring weak point like us humans such as a brain, or a heart. Desert Runners in specific can grow to be 70 feet(21meters) long and up to 10 feet(3 meters) wide, mutation or divergences may occur changing their size or shape depending on the conditions of their habitats. The biggest Desert Runner registered was 165 feet(50 meters) long and 22 feet (7 meters) wide, it was called the 'Kemoyin Sand Demon' unit the Redguards settler used their [Sword Singing] to kill it. The number of precious resources they got from the hunt was so immense and so vast that it becomes the base for the literal Kingdom that followed, and this was said to be one of the most important hunts of Redguard history. A fucking purple worm literally the main reason for the Redguards past prosperity, some people even say that Sentinel was only able to be built thanks to that hunt. " ~Alt Jin Book page 329 ~
Information about the Desert Runner echoed in my mind while I was running for my life. The Worm of course was pursuing me relentlessly, and I sincerely doubt it would fall for the [Illusionary Step] trick twice.
Thankfully my mastery of the [Advanced Step] is pretty good, so every time the worm gets closer I can use it to create a bigger distance between us. This had the side effect of pissing the worm even more. How do I know that? It's because every time it jumps in and out of the sand, it started to create some huge sand explosion sending sand and dust everywhere.
These explosions sometimes could mess up with my balance, but thanks to the amplified perception my [Sharingan] gives me, I can correctly correct most of my trajectory when something like that happens.
Well, I know this situation isn't good by any means. This shitty worm is inside of its domain, so it has the natural and environmental advantage over me. And considering it is literally eating and running at the same time, it can probably outlast me in these circumstances. Yeah, being in a desert without food, water, or rest is indeed very disadvantageous. Yes, my body can probably handle some more days in this unideal condition, but seeing as I am the only living thing besides this worm for a long distance it probably won't give up on me that easily. So the idea of outlasting its patience and stamina is out... Wait, I got an idea.
Looking at the [Elder Scroll(Eye)] in my hand I had both an incredible and stupid idea at the same time. Maybe... I can throw this thing in that stupid worm and gain some form of advantage.
Picking the elder scroll I briefly [Retreat Step] to be able to look at the worm a little bit before I throw the fragment of creating with all the power I got. I also didn't forget to channel both [Ki] and [Ripple] mixed together for that extra damage.
I could try to aim it perfectly and try to penetrate the thick carapace of the worm, but I don't want form my only method of harassment to be unavailable. Yes, the scroll would indeed return to me, but not when I am this close to it. So I decided to aim it on an awkward angle, with the objective of irritating the worm more than wounding it. Yeah, I sincerely doubt I can kill this thing right now, if I had some weapons and allies I could probably, but right now that I am almost naked and whit nothing to my name except a compass necklace and an [Elder Scroll(Eye)], my best option is running and pissing off this thing more.
Why? Well, I wanted to piss it off to such a degree it starts to make mistakes left and right, and the mistakes of my enemies can easily breed an opening for me.
Correctly aiming, tilting the [Elder Scroll(Eye)] slightly, fill it with my [Ki] and [Ripple] mix. And with all my strength throw it towards the worm. The [Elder scroll(Eye)] traveled through the eye, the scroll shined more than normal showing that it was filled with [Ki] and [Ripple], ti traveled at incredible speeds until it hit the worm carapace, a little bit above its mouth.
*TUK*
A metallic clashing sound echoed.
*RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR*
The worm roared incoherently, it sounded loud and obnoxious liek someone grinding two balls of dry dirt against each other. Apparently, the combination of [Ripple] and [Ki] is quite painful, if my guess is right the moment the scroll filled with both [Ki] and [Ripple] hit the worm, the mix of energies traveled through the worm body using its blood as a road. Sadly, it didn't cause much damage, like when you get shocked in the electric shower, it's painful, but it doesn't technically hurt you.
But thanks to my throw the worm faltered for a moment, which gave me some precious moments to continue running. Using [Adavnce Step] continuously I put some more distance between us, but the worm didn't seem its wants to give up. On the contrary, it's pretty pissed now that I look at it. I simply continued running.
After running for a bit more I finally saw the [Elder Scroll (Eye)] in the san three-meters ahead of me, using the [Evade step] for more maneuverability I tilt myself to the side and successfully grasp the scroll once more.
I started repeating the process. Pick scroll. Aim scroll. Throw Scroll. Pick scroll... I continue repeating this cycle, slowly kiting the worm to the best of my abilities. Of course, I tried to aim always in the same place with the objective of maybe creating a crack on the worm carapace. This somehow angered the monstrous worm even more.
But I didn't stop. I continued the cycle of throw it at the worm. Thankfully with the [Divine Dan] and [Ripple] flowing in my system with [Ki], I could use my walking techniques more.
Soon the night was approaching and I was running away from this shitty worm for hours. Right now I had repeated the same process so many times that I can probably do it blindfolded/ I literally became skilled in running away while throwing an [Elder Scroll] at my pursuer. Yes, it isn't a very useful ability to have, but I can honestly appreciate it right now.
When a little bit of exhaustion happens to catch up to me I finally saw some hope. In the distance, I saw some different blurs. Normally I can only see yellowish sand dunes, or more accurately, yellowish colored blurs that I think are sand dunes.
But at my front there is an extremely high sand dune, easily tighter than a four-story building, normally this would be a huge ass problem for me considering the Desert Runner can easily win past it and I would have to climb.
But this sand dune has something specially different about it. Instead of a full blur of yellow-colored sand on the base of the sand dune, there is a mix of brown, gray, blue, and black colored blurs. Getting closer and closer the strange amalgamation of colors finally took a shape. It was an entrance.
But instead of filling me with hope when I saw this entrance, I had an extremely dreadfully feeling inside of me, and that definitely didn't come from the huge-ass worm chasing me.
There is also another thing in this entrance, it is covered by an illusion. Yeah, my [Sharingan] easily saw through the illusion. And how do I know that? Because there are blue outlines on the borders of everything composed of the entrance. This gave me an idea, a very stupid one, but also has very high chances of working.
Reaching closer and closer to the entrance I use [Advance step] and jump towards the door. But instead of opening it or something, I simply use my [ripple] to glue myself to the wall and subsequently disappear from the purple worm senses.
The worm came closer to the entrance basically fuming, as most as a worm can fume anyway. It seems pretty confused as to where I went. It continued going back and forth around the entrance, but for some reason, it appears that the worm couldn't approach the strange entrance.
It continued rotating and searching around the area seemly deeply unsatisfied with the prey it let escape. I was using all my [Ripple] and willpower to not touch the ground and alert this monster yet again. I started sweating, and with every second that passes, I sweated more and more.
The worm seemly disappeared, but I know that is not true. It is impossible for it to be so easily convinced or satisfied. And I was proven right when half an hour later it burst from the sand floor, looked around once more, and then disappeared in a far away dune at the horizon.
I set out a *sigh* of relief. Finally, the shitty worm went away. And seeing that returning to the open desert right now looks like a pretty bad idea I guess I should at least explore this strange entrance a bit, maybe it's some kind of ruin with some rewards at the end.
