Honest Enough

Poisoned, that was what Thomas realized too little too late, as all the other men, dressed in high-end business suits and expensive watches, with big egos and even bigger bank accounts, seated around the table started grasping at their throats and foaming at their mouths.

All except for one.

Thomas collapsed to the floor, this wasn't supposed to happen, he was supposed to finish this deal, he wasn't pompous or egotistical, not like the others now convulsing around him, he was honest, at least, as honest as someone who runs a million-dollar company can be. But that was besides the point, he never had his competitors killed or made too shady of a deal, he was honest enough, right?

His eyes twitched sporadically as he too started convulsing, and his hands flew to his throat, clawing, trying to get whatever was killing him out. Thomas's unfocused and twitching eyes fell on a somewhat blurry silhouette of someone still seated at the table, not slumped over or on the ground, not dying.

Thomas instinctively reached one arm out, he tried to speak, only for a garbled sound and foam to sputter out. The man's eyes made contact with his but the man did not flinch or run to assist Thomas, instead he looked...unamused? Or was it boredom? Thomas didn't know, and would never know as a second later his outstretched arm fell limp and his eyes rolled back into his head, his face still twitching.

The still seated man looked down at the now-dead Thomas. "Took long enough." he sighed as he tilted his head back and finished his glass of whiskey.

He placed his now empty glass on the meeting table, littered with overturned glasses, whose contents soaked scattered business proposals and the faces of CEOs who slumped forward instead of falling onto the ground.

His silver eyes scanned the room once more for any signs of life, before getting out of the extremely comfortable office chair. "Might as well get to work." he said as he adjusted his personally tailored black gloves and picked up a briefcase that was laying on floor and placed it on the table. He looked at the office chair he had just been sitting in, "have to order one of these." he smirked as he opened the briefcase.
