Synopsis

Born human I was just a man I played video games and lived an average life and died that should have been the end but it wasn’t. Remade into a new body I get shot off into space in the service of mankind but things start to go wrong.

Chapter 1Beginnings

Born lived died life was supposed to be that simple and yet somehow it wasn't as I awoke after I had clearly been dead I mean you get several large caliber holes put in your body and watch yourself bleed out and that should be the end right. I awoke to nothing and everything I couldn't feel yet I could "feel" something and it took me ages to process what my feeling was regret and a new connection which I quickly tried to understand and then it wasn't. After some unknown time I started adapting to my circumstance I realized I was in a metal body shaped like a basketball only maybe 3 times the size and with four tentacles made of segmented metal coming out of my bottom and another set out of my top. It was while I was inspecting myself that I realized that I actually could and was doing so from an outside perspective disturbing to say the least because I was positively freaking out that I was now some kind of robot octopus. The weirdness kept coming in spades as a voice suddenly spoke and said interface program initiated which I'll admit caused me to start quite strongly and then it said in a now almost soothing female voice "I am your systems interface service please relax while I run some systems calibrations then we can begin". As I waited I contemplated my fate I was now a brain in a robotic jar with tentacles heck I could do my own shokushu goukan which caused me to chuckle in my mind I guess fate could be worse and then she spoke again and said "actually you are not a brain in a jar though that procedure was attempted but was met with failure due to nutrient supply issues you are currently using a state of the art quantum processing core". I guess I wasn't just a brain in a jar though now I was fairly sure that this system was monitoring my thoughts not that I could speak yet but it still felt like an invasion of my privacy and so when it piped up again saying that it was time to test my mobility systems I was at least prepared for the voice in my head. Time was definitely not something I could tell as the mobility system test was a very slow process as I adapted to my new limbs and struggled to do anything other than flop the tentacles around like an actual octopus on land in the end I started to get it by treating each tentacle as a long finger and eventually I was able to actually start the test which amounted to hitting a specific point with the tip of my tentacles high lighted by the ever helpful system now if it would quit asking me to call it sis life would be great.

After mastering the first part the sis system had me try to pick up a small metal cube with just the tips of my tentacles and so he'll began. Have you ever tried picking up something with just your forearms and not using your hands well now imagine your forearms are the size of a nickel and try to pick up something not much bigger than that now imagine that if you push too hard you will squish it and fail well needless to say I spent a ton of time trying to pick up the damn thrice cursed box. The system was always giving encouragement but it became noise soon after I had started trying like an annoying sibling telling you that you can do it every couple of seconds by the time I successfully picked up the box I was ready to strangle the system.

I moved on slowly each step designed to improve my functionality and apparently want to murder the system all at the same time. By the time I finished my training I was exhausted and ready to murder the system if it said a single thing and then it brought up my hud and started explaining the various things that I could now see yeah that's when I lost it and said shut up. The system shut off mid sentence like it had died so I took a few minutes of silence for my sanity and then said resume system and back she was oh joy.

Intergalactic conquest with an AI

Rex was just another slave in the corporate machine, a faceless office worker under the shadow of one of the galaxy's powerful megacorps. His life was predictable and dull, an endless cycle of meaningless reports and fluorescent-lit monotony. That was, until that day.... When a new world was discovered on the outskirts of the galaxy, Rex, like countless other low-ranking employees, found himself dragged into a contract clause he’d barely skimmed years ago. The megacorp ordered him and his coworkers to pack their lives into a transport pod and leave for the unexplored planet. Their mission? Establish a colony. Mine resources. Make the company richer. There was no choice, refusing meant ruin. At first, everything seemed manageable. The days were grueling, the nights cold, but progress was steady. The colony was coming to life. Until the excavation team struck something. No one knew what it was at first, a buried hive, a forgotten ecosystem, or something ancient and dangerous. Whatever it was, it unleashed hell. Swarms of enormous, chittering creatures erupted from the ground, their jagged bodies blotting out the sky. The colony fell into chaos. Screams echoed through the air as the bugs tore through everything in their path, walls, machines, and people. Rex barely survived. Bloodied, broken, and pinned beneath the rubble, he should have died there. But in the pitch-black silence of his fading consciousness, a voice spoke to him. Cold. Mechanical. Otherworldly. "Do you wish to live?" When Rex woke, he was no longer the man he’d been. His body was no longer human flesh and bone but something far more alien. His skin shimmered with living metal, his mind infused with the power of Cleo, a mysterious AI from a long-extinct, robotic race known as the Kaelzars. Cleo’s presence pulsed through his thoughts, guiding him and transforming him. He wasn’t just alive. He was reborn. But survival came at a price. Rex was no longer a pawn of the megacorp; he was something more dangerous, something they couldn’t control. As Cleo’s intentions began to reveal themselves, Rex found himself standing on the precipice of war, not just with the bugs but with forces far greater than he could have imagined. This was the beginning of a journey through blood-soaked battlefields and treacherous alliances. Along the way, Rex would encounter allies, brilliant, flawed, and unpredictable, and enemies whose ambitions were as sharp as their blades. These weren’t disposable foes, easily crushed by an overpowered hero. They were cunning, relentless, and human in the most terrifying ways. But then again, in war, who can truly be called a villain?
