Chapter 14 Maria’s oath 

"Yes, I met her, and I received a total of four blessings."

Mother Oksa and my mom both stood up and screamed, unable to believe what I said.

"WHAT?"

Charlotte, who was sitting on my lap, became scared because of the loud yells and buried her face into my chest.

"Big sis, Mom is too scary."

I stroked her hair again, and she began to rub her face against me. I suspected that she was acting like that to take advantage of me.

While indulging Charlotte, I reported my attention to my mother and the priestess.

"Why do you sound so surprised? I was told during the ceremony that four blessings were the maximum I could get, but I shouldn't be the first. Right?"

It seemed that my mother was as confused as me. She sat back down.

"Is this true?"

"According to the sacred texts, yes, but it never happened since the founding of the central church on Astria 100,000 years ago. According to our archives, only two persons managed to get three blessings. That's why that possibility never occurred to me."

Each member of my family had a different reaction. My Dad was looking at me with pride and relief. I knew his biggest regret was his inability to cultivate. He knew that he would die before his family unless he managed to find something to get a longer lifespan. And his biggest fear was that his children shared his fate.

Like always, Andrea had a poker face when the situation was severe. But I knew her, and she had a much harder time controlling her ears and tail. Her ears were erected upon her head, and her tail was not moving. It showed that she was wary. She was watching Mother Oksa without blinking and evaluating the threat she represented.

Maria, on the other hand, was a bundle of excitement. Her tail was wagging so fast that it became blurry. I could swear that I could see hearts and stars in her eyes. Since she decided to follow me, she was excited because having a strong master was one of the biggest honors in her tribe. Plus, she was my friend, and I knew she was happy for me.

My mom's initial shocked expression had already vanished. Instead, she was deep in thought. I knew she was worried about the political repercussions if the news got out to the public. On the one hand, making the news public would benefit my reputation and make my future easier. On the other hand, it would make me a target for rival families and enemy spies and assassins working for the demon cults. She understood it was my decision to make, so she asked.

"'What do you plan to do?"

After thinking a moment, I answered.

"Well, since out of my four blessings, only two are currently active, I will only reveal those to the public. Both are combat-related, so they should greatly boost my standing."

"What do you mean?"

I opened my mouth to answer but was interrupted by Andrea.

"Young Lady Alice, Lady Sylvia, should we not discuss this topic at home?"

My mother nodded at her suggestion, but I, on the other hand, shook my head and chuckled.

Mother Oksa was not offended by their attitude, but the three women didn't expect my reaction.

"Don't worry, Andrea. Mother Oksa won't betray me."

"With all due respect …"

I immediately interrupted her rebuttal.

"Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. What I mean is Mother Oksa can't betray me. To be precise, If she does, her soul would be extinguished without any hope of reincarnation."

My mother and Andrea seemed confused by my words, but the priestess immediately understood what I meant. She turned her blind eyes toward me, seeking confirmation.

"I did receive Lady Destiny's blessing."

Contrary to nuns and monks, priests and priestesses have to make an oath when they take function, and the first sentence of that vow is never to betray the deity that the priest chose to serve.

"It will be easier if I explain everything at once. I received the blessings of Lady Wu Mei and Lady Titania. Those two blessings are battle-oriented and are already active. Like I said before, I also received Lady Destiny's blessing, but it will only activate once I become a double cultivator."

"And what about your fourth one?"

I couldn't help but blush. I may be a shameless degenerate most of the time, but I was still embarrassed to reveal that facet of my personality in front of my parents.

"Don't be afraid, dear," said my father." All blessings are honorable."

"Lady Venus," I whispered.

"We didn't hear you."

"Raah, okay, I will say it; I was blessed by Lady Venus. She said her blessing will become active when I am old enough."

Everyone was stunned by my words except for Maria. My Dad began to look at the ceiling, not knowing what to say, and both Andrea and my mother looked at me like they didn't know me. Both of them were blushing.

(Maria's POV)

Maria was not shocked by Alice's revelations. She was the one who knew her young Miss the best.

Only she understood the true nature of her past pranks. While others thought it was simple mischievousness, she knew how much of a pervert she was, even if Alice herself hadn't realized it at the time.

Despite that, she loved Alice. She never treated her as a slave like other nobles did to their servant. She never felt disgusted by her ears, her tail, or other wolf features, saying they were cute and cool.

That's why she wanted to serve her. She desired to stay by her side for the rest of her life. But hearing how much potential Alice had, she began to panic. She realized that she would soon soar like a Phoenix. Leaving her in the dust

After a while, she calmed down and made a solemn vow.

"I will do everything I can to become someone worthy of her. And since she will shine thanks to her talents, I will become the one protecting her from the shadows."
