Maths Tournament

As time passed, it was finally the day of the maths tournament.

Raven arrived at school and met with his teammates.

There were 3 guys and two girls in his team, including him.

After taking the attendance, they all left the school and headed onto the bus to soar off to Toronto.

Raven sat at the back of the bus, and one girl quickly made her way to him and sat next to him.

"Hey, I'm Naomi."

Raven turned to the girl.

"I know, we're teammates."

The girl froze for a moment, not expecting him to respond like that.

She then chuckled.

"I know that." She said, "I mean, I want to be friends."

"Why?" Raven asked.

"What do you mean 'why'?" Naomi asked back.

"You don't have to talk to me just because I'm your teammate," Raven replied.

"You can talk to anyone you want."

"It's more fun talking to my teammates." She said.

Raven turned and looked out of the window.

"If you say so."

Naomi frowned and opened her mouth to say something when one of the other girls came over and sat next to him.

"Hello, I'm Veronica." She said, offering her hand.

Raven shook her hand.

"I know," he said, "We're teammates."

The girl froze as Raven gave her the same look as he did with Naomi.

"I-I know," she said, "I'm not doing this just because I'm teammates."

Raven shrugged his shoulders and turned to the window again.

"If you say so."

Naomi was about to say something else when Veronica stopped her.

"Let's talk later." She said.

Naomi frowned, but nodded anyway.

They all chatted with each other for the rest of the ride before finally reaching Toronto.

After exiting the bus, they were greeted by the schools and some students.

One principal stepped up to the podium.

"Welcome to the Math Tournament! As you all know, the tournament is divided into two parts. The first round will be done today and the second round will be tomorrow. As usual, the winner of this year's tournament will win the prize. All of you have already received your schedule, so I recommend you familiarise yourselves with the competition."

The principal looked out at the crowd of students.

"All of you are already familiar with the school, so I'll just say a few things. First, I expect all of you to compete with your best abilities. Second, if anyone commits any foul play, there will be consequences. And finally, we thank all our schools that came today."

After the principal finished, Raven looked at the list and saw his name in the first match.

"Well, I'm going to head out," Raven said.

"I'll see you after class."

His teammates nodded.

"Alright, see you."

Raven nodded and walked away, finding the room.

He sighed as he saw his name was first to compete.

He sat down in the chair and waited for his name to be called.

After some time, Raven's name was called.

Raven got up and walked to the desk.

A math teacher wrote his name on the screen and handed him a piece of paper.

"Good luck," he said.

Raven nodded and picked up the paper, and walked into the room behind the teacher.

He picked one desk that was at the back and picked up the pen that was given by the ministry.

Raven sat down and waited for the room to be full of students before he started.

When everyone was seated, one teacher announced that the test had started.

Raven looked down at the test and immediately scanned it with Vanessa.

"Vanessa, scan the test." Raven said in his heart.

[Sure! Here are the answers!]

[Question 1 is C]

[Question 6 is 545M]

[Question 13 is A]

[Question…]

Raven mouth curled up into a smile

With all the different things he's been studying alongside Vanessa, this test was like child's play in his eyes.

"When are the hard questions coming out?" He muttered.

He chuckled and continued answering the questions.

After the test ended, Raven sighed in relief.

"Finally." He said to himself.

He looked at the clock and saw he had an hour left.

Raven handed in the test and get some lunch.

After an hour of eating and texting Mia, he left the cafeteria.

"Raven! Wait up!" She shouted, running over to him.

"What do you want?" Raven asked.

"I wanted to know if you can help me out during the second round." Naomi said, "I want to be paired with you."

Raven shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't mind," he said, "as long as you don't bother me."

Naomi nodded.

"I'll do my best."

The two then headed out to the school cafeteria for lunch.

"By the way," Naomi asked, "Did you see how hard some questions were?"

Raven shook his head.

"I only see the questions I like."

Naomi couldn't help but laugh.

"You're one of those guys that knows all the answers but is bad at solving them?"

Raven shrugged.

"I prefer to say that I'm not interested in anything math-related. I learned it because it was easy. Also, I definitely got 100% on the test, so I can definitely solve them."

Naomi rolled her eyes.

"Whatever you say." She said, "Anyway, can you give me some pointers?"

"No, do it yourself." Raven replied.

Naomi glared at him.

"What do you mean 'no'? We're in a team!" She shouted.

Raven shrugged his shoulders.

"We're in a team, so what?"

"What do you mean 'so what?' We should support each other!" Naomi shouted.

"Why should I?" Raven asked.

Naomi froze.

"You don't care about me?"

"Nope, I really only care for four people." Raven said, glancing at her.

Naomi didn't respond to his remark and left the cafeteria, eating nothing.

Raven shrugged his shoulders and continued to walk away.

After the break, Raven returned to the room to continue the next test.

He didn't really mind how long the test went on, but when he finished it, he felt like he was tired.

Not because of difficulty or anything, he's just bored.

After waiting for his score to appear on the screen, he walked out of the room and met with his teammates.

"How was it?" Naomi asked.

"Probably didn't get a single wrong." Raven said, "Did you solve all the questions?"

Veronica nodded.

"I solved most of them." She said.

"Alright, then let's head out." Naomi said, "We can talk about it later."
