Purpose

"M-morning."

I felt my cheeks started to heat up as embarrassment sets in. I must've looked like a crazy person in front of her. I mean, I would give the same reaction if I saw someone moving their hands around whilst staring at nothing as they moved. I would've thought that person has an interest in their own hands... that or they are seeing something that I can't.

"How are you feeling?" She asked as she scanned my face.

In all honestly, I didn't know how I felt deep down. Everything felt so surreal, if life was a choose an adventure story, then this certainly felt like the story has another path to it. I just don't know if the path I will choose will be the right one. I certainly felt that my path has indeed forked since my previous life.

"I feel great." I answered her as I moved my arms around, to show her.

"Good. Now let me check you to make sure."

She leaned over and closed her eyes. This situation was definitely familiar, I felt myself tensed up a bit. I inhaled a lung full of air as she instructed and thankfully that helped my heartrate steady as I exhaled. Though she wasn't using a stethoscope, the same procedure still felt the same. In fact, it seemed that this method was twice as more effective then using a stethoscope.

She tilted her head a bit, her eyes still closed and hummed. If not for the fact that this felt like an awkward situation, what she's doing, looked kind of down to earth and cute. Her hums was synced with my heart which was reassuring considering, her hums were hummed at a normal pace than sporadic. As the hums stopped, she opened her eyes, raised a hand and cupped my chin. She moved my face from side to side and inspected it.

After a moment of looking she dropped her hand and straightened back up. A smile broke free of her concerned expression.

"Promise me, we should stop meeting like this."

"Why? You don't like what you see?" I asked playfully. Normally I wouldn't do this but her reaction made it worth it. A pink blush dusted her cheeks in contrast of her brown complexion which caused a charge that surged through me. Parts of my body tensed up as I tried my best to suppress it.

"I - I uh..." Her eyes now averted mine as words stumbled out of her mouth.

"I do!" Her admission surprised me. Her response felt natural and true, there was no lie to it. As she said it, she quickly cupped her mouth with her hands, her eyes wide as if she had blurted out something she shouldn't have.

To cut through the intense atmosphere I regretted creating I replied, "I promise," with a warm smile.

Though it was a difficult promise to keep, it gave me a goal. I'm a support front and foremost and in battles, one thing I know for certain was that support was a high priority target, if I die, then everyone does. For those I want to protect, I first need to protect myself. I knew in all games, no matter what kind, the support will always die first. Kill the support and the whole team will fall apart. Tanks may hold out for a long time but eventually they will fall and as for attackers like assassins and blade masters, will lose their lives from mistakes and oversight... over confidence.

Supports are as important in a team for both defenders and attackers. The only question was that my class was 'Mastermind' which was an abnormal class type. From the name alone, one might think that type of name would be more suited for mage or some sort of attack class. I still had no idea how all this was going to piece together and allow me to understand how to utilize any of this to its full potential.

I needed to go back to my room and think this all through...

After confirming recording my health status on a clipboard she held, she handed my clothes to me. I took the clothing and inspected them. I was surprised that these are my clothing but clean and pressed. All of the blood was gone and the rips as well. It's as they were brand spanking new.

Dayana noticed my confusion and told me that she had mended my clothing and washed them. I was speechless. Why would she do this for me? I know the hospital had no such service. I've never seen another healer mend and wash a patient's clothing. I thanked her for all that she had done for me and got dressed. Dayana turned around as I started to unbuttoned the hospital shirt I was wearing. I couldn't see her face but I could feel her blush emitting off of her.

As I got dressed, I asked her if she knew where Rex was as I hoped to see him but she informed me that he had recovered miraculously and was with the rest of my class, attending Garret's combat training. I hadn't realized it yet but it was midday.

"He wanted to stay by your side until you woke up but I told him that it would be much better if he attended class than to miss it." She reassured him by saying that she would take good care of me. One of the biggest reasons I thought she did it was to pull Rex's mind off from what he was thinking about.

Though I had extracted all of his past memories and most of his feeling he had suffered in his experiences, it wasn't perfect. The same as Stella, Rex will feel things he has no context of and that scared me. I inwardly frowned at this thought. To fully rectify this problem, I needed to become stronger, I needed to grow accustom to this system and fully step into this role I've been bestowed upon.

"I see."

I pulled up my pants as Dayana had her back turned. I was in the process of standing up when I felt my weight pulled me back down onto the bed.

Oof

"What the..." I tried again.

Oof

What the! I inwardly shouted.

Dayana leaned over and grabbed me in a hug type grab and lifted me up. I felt my legs shook for a bit before all the feeling rush back in.

"You have slept for nearly half the day, it's natural for your body to be a bit stiff and weighted down. We just need to give your body time to readjust and get them moving again."

"Thank you."

I held onto her and gave her a hug. It was a sincere hug that showed off my gratitude for all the things she had done for me. I know that she's doctor and I was merely her patient but words was never enough to express any form of sincerity. Wasn't there a saying about 'action speaks louder than words'? This hug was that isn't it? I surely hoped so or I just did something again that I shouldn't have.

I felt her return my hug twice fold. She held me tightly like if she was a clamp and I was an object she was holding in place. I tried to breath in and regulate my heart rate but whenever I did, her scent engulfed me. I was entranced by her and she lulled me into a sense of peacefulness.

A cough broke me out of the trance and both of us separated rather abruptly. I looked over to where the cough came from and standing a few feet away was Tavish, leader of the King's Guards.

"Ah! sorry, I hoped I didn't mean to disturb you two." Tavish had an apologetic look on him. It was a stark contrast to the expression he showed last night. "I'll come back later."

"No it's quite alright. I'll come back later and check on him once more." She left before I could even utter a single word. Damn it.

Tavish walked up to fill in her spot and knelt down. I was shocked at the display.

"I, thank you boss for saving me and my people last night."

I was absolutely dumbfounded. Why was he thanking me? I didn't do anything last night to be thankful for and he had done nothing to be thankful.

"What we did last night, was something that deserved death. But you pulled us out of the darkness and into the light."

I'm was utterly confused by what he was saying. It was true that what they did was horrendous but what has that got to do with me?

"You have awakened us from a corrupted dream and for that we the King's Guards will lay our loyalty to you. I, Tavish O'Connor, leader of the King's Guards will hereby pledge my allegiance to you."

A pop up screen appeared in front of me.

[Tavish O'Connor, leader of the King's Guards has pledge his allegiance and will be promoted to Captain . Do you accept? Yes/No]

Captain? Holy shit! Eh... Yes! I accept.

[Confirmed. Tavish O'Connor has now been promoted to Captain. He will now have authority over a selected amount of troops.]

What? I felt my saliva drying up as his profile popped in front of me. Marlos's profile also popped up as he was also a captain... I can't believe I have two captains now. Lo and behold, a red chain icon was next to Tavish's name, the same as Marlos.

As I stared at both of their profile's, a query popped into my head. These two were the ones who had hurt my students but now they are in my control, why do I feel elated about this?

I remembered back to what Roha had said to me. 'Control the mind and you can control anyone and anything.'

Though mind control was something that didn't sit right with me. I believe that what it could achieve would lead to a positive outcome. In a way it isn't mind control but a way to give anyone or anything, an opportunity and another chance to change their ways.

With this I've found something that could potentially not only protect my students but also save anyone who went down the wrong path. As a support and a teacher this brought a smile to my face. A new purpose has now revealed itself to me.
