Chapter Nine: Edward Blackwood

He was sitting in the center of the room on a fancy throne, surrounded by five guards dressed in high-quality black steel armor all armed with professionally forged swords.

He was wearing a silk black suit that was both fancy and domineering. It had silver and red designs on the front of it. The guards left no openings, making that small circle the safest place in the entire mansion.

He was the head of the Blackwood Family, Edward Blackwood.

Ah, the guest of honor has arrived." Edward said, looking directly at Alex.

He had a devilishly smooth voice, one that could manipulate you into believing him but also one that made you sweat bullets.

"Guards, escort my son to me so I may have a chat with him." Edwards ordered.

Two of the black steel armored guards walked to Alex and told him to follow them. Alex looked at his mother and sister in a effort to calm them downas both had worried expressios. He had never talked to this man before, and he wanted to make sure his mother and sister were alright. She was reluctant to let Alex talk to him but nodded her head. She knew he couldn't do anything to Alex today, of all days. It was important to him too, after all.

Alex went along with the guards, and while walking to the throne, he could hear the voices of the nobles in the crowd.

"So he's the second son of the Blackwood patriarch? He looks nothing like him." a very posh man said.

"It Seems the first daughter and second son got their looks from their mother." a younger nobleman said.

"Daddy, can I meet him?" a young girl asked her father.

"Not at the moment, Sophia; he has to go through his awakening ceremony first." the father told his daughter.

Once Alex finally got to the throne, his father looked at him with a expression that Alec couldn't quite figure out. He was smiling on the outside but internally it was easy for Alex to tell that Edward was a cold-hearted man.

Edward stood up and announced loudly to the crowd "Tonight, my son, Alex Blackwood, will awaken to his magical element. I want to thank everyone who showed up for this glorious event. I can't tell you how proud I am of my son."

"You can't tell them because this is the first time we've met "Father"." Alex thought to himself.

Edwards kept going on and on with his speech, which Alex barely listened to.

"Well, to start off this wonderful night, let the awakening ceremony commence." Edward announced.

At the entrance to the room, an older man with dark red robes walked through the door. He walked down the entrance, with two of the black armored guards meeting him halfway to escort him. This man was a master magus. His job was simple: make sure Alex stays in control of his mana during the awakening. After all, because of the awakening, the mana inside of Alex could get chaotic as it had a tendency to do so in freshly awakened children. So in order makes things easier for the children to awaken was to have a magus with knowledge of mana control assist them.

The magus went up to Alex and asked him to kneel in preparation for the awakening.

Alex does just that and kneels at the front of the throne. His father was watching behind him. He looked around the room. He saw his mother and sister, who were smiling but also continued to have a worried look on their faces. Eve was worried and had her hands together as it looked like she was praying, while Veronica had a small semblance of a worried look on her face.

"Aw, you do care, Veronica; now just to get you to become a bit more expressive."

He also noticed Edmund, Edward's first born son from his previous marriage, staring at him with an angry look on his face. Alex could tell Edmund had a major issue with him just by the sight of his facial expression. Raven also noticed and angrily looked at Edmund.

The Magus standing next to Alex started to speak. "We all gather here today to witness the goddesses blessings. This young boy, Alex Blackwood, was blessed by the goddesses benevolence as they give him the power of magic . Now it is time to start the awakening, are you ready young man?"

"I am."

The Magus moved behind Alex, placed his hand on top of Alex's head, and said, Now, young Alex, start circulating your mana; I will handle the rest."

Alex closed his eyes and started to feel out his mana. He felt energy surging in his body; it came with a bit of pain and also a relaxing sensation.

As he continued to circulate his mana, he felt a familiar feeling. A feeling he felt before only at two other places.

The Waterfall and the room where he met Xymaris

It was then that he heard a familiar female voice.

"It's time, my chosen one."

It was then that purple lightning started to shoot out of Alex's body. It was extremely powerful and even hit one of the black-armored knights, knocking him out. The Black Knights moved to shield Edward, and one went to guard Edmund.

After a few minutes of chaos the lightning came to a halt, and Alex stood up with the magus, who announced

"Alex Blackwood has awoken to his family's lightning elemental magic. Blessed be the goddesses."

The crowd applauded Alex's new magical abilities. Besides Edmund, as he began walking out of the ceremony still with a angry expression.

"Good riddance; you'll see me again soon, dickhead," Alex thought to himself, smirking.

Alex started getting congratulations from the crowd of nobles. His mother, sister, and the maids went over to him, with Raven, Anna, and Eve hugging Alex, and Veronica giving him a simple congratulations. However, Alex hugged her anyway and said, "Thank you for coming."

That made Veronica smile a bit before quickly getting her emotionless smile back and asking her young master to stop hugging her.

Alex was talking to his family amd enjoying himself until he heard a voice say

"Alex, come with me."
