Chapter Eleven: A Line Drawn In The Sand

After the Tarren boy was knocked into a table, the entire party went into a stir. People are freaking out, not realizing what exactly happened. The main person freaking out right now was two people who were previously smiling, seeing the two talking. That would be Edward Blackwood and Duncan Tarren, Oliver's father. Edward was talking to him and officializing things about the two getting married, but that all changed when the screams were heard. Duncan and Edward, who were previously smiling and drinking wine, were now completely filled with anger.

"You...YOU BITCH!" Oliver Tarren yelled out from the floor, holding his arm. He had landed on his arm wrong, and it was causing him extreme amounts of pain every time he tried to move it.

As Oliver was holding his arm, faces tearing up, a blonde woman who seemed to be in her mid- to late twenties ran up to Oliver and held him in her arms. This woman was Ellen Tarren. She is the wife of Duncan and mother to both Oliver and his younger brother Randall. She had long blonde hair that ended in curls around her chest. She was wearing a beautiful, tight, dark blue dress, which definitely showed her...assets. Ellen was taking care of Oliver, but that was when Duncan Tarren ran up to the group.

"What is the meaning of this!" Duncan yelled, incensed with anger. "What happened!"

"She...used her magic on me!" Oliver yelled from the floor in his mother's arms.

Duncan's head turned towards Raven, who was acting as if nothing had happened as she took a drink of her water.

"What did you do!" Duncan yelled.

"I protected myself." Raven said with no emotion.

Raven was trying her best to appear cold and emotionless, but internally, she was currently freaking out. She didn't know the ramifications of what she had just done or how everyone would react.

Duncan went towards Raven but was quickly cut off by someone who somehow flashed purple lightning in front of Duncan's eyes.

"Wha-" Duncan said out loud in surprise.

Duncan turned his head towards where the lightning came from and saw a young man with dark black hair and purple eyes. He had a cold but also a terrifying look on his face, something a young child like him shouldn't have.

"Back away from my sister right now, or next time I won't miss."

Alex's body was surrounded by his magical energy as his purple lightning crackled around him. Alex was releasing an immense amount of magical energy, shocking everyone in the building, even his own family, with just how much power he had at such a young age. Even some of the most powerful magic users in the building were impressed by his pure magical energy.

Henry Goldburn, who was watching the display of power from Alex, couldn't help but ask "How can he be so young...yet have this amount of power?"

Henry's wife, Jessica, was also seeing this and was shocked. "How much power do you think he's showing?"

Henry's brow furrowed. "If me and him were to spare, he'd give me trouble. I'm still more powerful as of right now, but not by much."

Henry was shocked that someone who was nearly twenty years younger than him could nearly match him in power. In his mind, Alex was truly gifted in a similar way to his daughter. His daughter Sophia was more powerful than she should be at her age, which made Henry very impressed. This only solidified in his mind that his daughter must marry Alex. If Alex and Sophia have kids, they would be very powerful and would possibly help advance the Goldburn name. Henry then looked at his daughter, whose face looked both surprised and impressed at Alex's display.

"Oh...this is going to work." Henry thought to himself.

Henry was imagining scenarios of marrying Sophia to Alex. Some of the others in the room were less than happy. Especially Edward, who was swimming right now.

"What are these stupid fucking kids doing?!" He thought to himself.

Edward marched towards Alex and Raven but noticed a hand quickly getting in his way. He turned his head and saw the beautiful face in front of him, but she was the last person he wanted to get in his way.

"What do you think you're doing Edward?" Anna asked him with a smile on her face.

"I'm going to stop this!" Edward said it with aggression.

Before Anna could react, another sound was heard, which shocked everyone in attendance.

Duncan, who was not going to let some kid embarrass him the way Alex had, started to cast a spell in his hand, but before he could realize it, Alex cast one first. A giant purple net made up of lightning hit Duncan, which sent him flying towards the wall. His back hit the wall so hard that it cracked the stone wall.

Once Duncan hit the floor, he barely managed to get on all fours as he spit out some blood. He knew that against Alex he was no match, which further damaged his ego. That's when Anna finally stepped in.

"C'mon, it's time we leave." Anna said as she put a hand on Alex's shoulder.

"What do you mean 'leave' Anna? They just assaulted a noble and his family." Edward yelled out, trying to stop Anna.

Anna, not wanting to deal with Edward right now, started to manifest her purple lightning around her body like the way that Alex did, but this time instead of people being impressed like they were with Alex, they were terrified.

Anna was a level four master at her magic, which made her one of the most powerful magic users in the entire empire. If she wanted, she could destroy the entire mansion with a single spell, which made everyone very weary, with some even leaving for the exits as fast as they could.

"I said it was time to leave." Anna said, looking Edward in the eyes. "Does anyone here have a problem with that?"

Edward, despite everything he wanted to say, instead bit his tongue and kept quiet. Duncan Tarren was currently still trying to recover from Alex's attack, and Oliver was still in his mother's arms, both of whom were currently terrified.

Anna, Lyanna, Kaede, Amelie, Alex, and Raven all made their way to the exit doors of the mansion, making everyone in the room breathe a sigh of relief. None of them were powerful enough to beat Anna one-on-one and many decided that it wasn't worth it.

Duncan and his family left with the little bit of dignity they had after both Duncan and Oliver were knocked out by people extremely younger than him. After they left, the party died, so many of the guests started to leave besides the ones who were staying for the night in guest rooms. Edward, whose ego was very bruised by Anna taking control of the entire situation, went up to his room with Ava, where the two released their.... frustrations out on each other.

Meanwhile, Edmund, who had witnessed the entire display between Alex, Raven, and the Tarrens, was furious at the night's events. His family was utterly embarrassed and made to look weak by the entire region's nobility. This furthered his hatred of Alex, who had been a thorn in his side since he was born.

"I will get payback against you, Alex... I swear to the goddess."

*Meanwhile*

Alex and the others, along with Leonora, all walked back to their house. Alex and Raven were walking next to each other, hand in hand, smiling and laughing, and Anna, who had the biggest smirk on her face, hated that party, but the ending was so enjoyable that it made the night worth it.

"Hey Alex, Raven." Anna said after turning around to face them.

"Yeah, mother?" Alex asked.

"Good job. Also, keep training; you made quite an impression on the nobles today. Make sure not to disappoint them as you get older." Anna said it with a bright smile.

"Of course, mother. But I don't care what the nobles think. I want to get stronger so people like that Tarren family won't try to hurt any of you." Alex said.

Anna was never prouder of her son than right now, "Good Alex. You're already a better man than Edward is. I'm just happy you ruined his stupid little party."

That's when Lyanna chimed in, "What about the possible repercussions? What's the plan for them?"

"We'll figure it out in time; right now, I just want to get out of this dress and go to sleep." Anna said as she stretched.

Leonora looked at the group and smiled "Never a dull job when these two are involved..." That's when Leonora looked over at Alex. "Even I could sense that magical power of his from outside the mansion. He could become someone very dangerous if he gets more powerful..."

The group headed to their house and went to sleep to end the night, but someone was watching over them from the skies above.

"He's learning..."

Xymaris was watching over Alex and his progress. She had been very impressed with the quickness of his growth, even with her help. She watched over Alex as much as she could in order to make sure things were progressing the way she wanted them to.

That's when Xymaris heard footsteps behind her, causing her to turn around.

Once she saw the person behind her, she smiled.

"Hey sis."
