Chapter 2:- Family

[Kenshin's (Tom's) POV]

It's been about 6 months since I've been reincarnated into this world. I've kinda figured out the basic information about my family and circumstances. My mother, Kana Uzumaki, is the granddaughter of Ashina Uzumaki, the last leader of the hidden whirlpool village. She took shelter in the hidden rain after the fall of the Uzumaki when she was a child and has grown up in this village on her own. She became a kunoichi when she was 12 and is currently a chunin. She's currently 22 years old. She took a break from missions to raise me since there's nobody else.

As for my father, his situation is more complicated. He's an Uchiha, the secret grandson of Izuna Uchiha.But after Izuna's death, Madara kept my grandfather's relation to Izuna a secret because my great grandmother, wanted her son to lead a relatively normal life, away from the troubles that would be inevitable if the clan knew that Izuna had a child. And from him came my father Ichiro Uchiha. He met my mother during his time in the hidden rain during the third great ninja war. Mom had just become a chunin and she was 19 at the time. After the war, they had a daughter. My father wanted to bring them to the leaf village with him but the elders of the Uchiha clan didn't allow him. And since even the hokage doesn't have any authority over the internal matters of major clans, dad couldn't do anything. But he was allowed to bring my sister with him since she had my father's appearance.

A year later, mom got pregnant again and nine months later, I was born. But dad couldn't visit us during my birth because of missions but he did come a couple months later. And just last week, the nine tails incident happened. Fourth hokage Minato Namikaze and his wife Kushina Uzumaki died and the Uchiha were suspected. My father didn't or maybe couldn't visit us after that and therefore I didn't get to meet him or my sister. I wonder if Mary got reincarnated as well. I mean.... I do have my doubts about it so I won't count on it. I'll just focus on this life and this family.

Fast forward 7 years:

It's been 7 and a half years since I've been reincarnated. I've recently began learning basic ninjutstu from my mother. One day, Konan came to our house. She's been coming once in a while ever since pain killed Hanzo and became leader of the hidden rain. She has a rather friendly relationship with my mother but the villagers treat me and mom as outcasts because my father is a leaf Shinobi. Usually Konan would come with a warm smile, a given since her nickname was "Angel". But this time, her face was gloomy and it was obvious that something was wrong.

"What's wrong, Konan-sama?"I asked Konan after welcoming her in. Mom came to greet her as well but she became concerned seeing Konan's expression.

"Well... How should I say this...."Konan began, followed by a long pause. And in that moment, it came to me. The Uchiha massacre should happen around this time. But since I had watched Naruto a long time ago, 6 years before my death in my past life, I forgot the time frame.

Konan took a deep breath and said,"Kana, I have bad news. The entire Uchiha clan, including Ichiro and most probably your daughter, was slaughtered two nights ago. The son of the clan leader, Itachi Uchiha was the culprit. The only survivors were Itachi's younger brother Sasuke and an Uchiha girl named Akane Uchiha. Itachi spared Sasuke's life and Akane happened to be outside the Uchiha clan compound that night. Mom immediately fell to her knees and screamed,"nooooo!!!!!!!" Slowly, I walked up to my sobbing mother and hugged her tightly, desperately trying to hold back my own tears.

Despite having the appearance of a child, I was 26 years old mentally so I felt that I had to stay calm. In my past life, I had lost both my parents, my mother to cancer and my father to a heart attack. So it was marginally easier for me to keep calm. Konan's heart broke at the sight of her friend's condition and she too wrapped her arms around us. Amidst all that, my sharingan awakened and I hid it while wiping my tears. I was able to deactivate it somehow and we stayed there like this for god knows how long.

But instead of swearing revenge against Itachi, I decided to just stay here and protect my mother because I simply didn't care about vengeance. It never led to anything good and I didn't want to lose the one last bit of family I had left in this life. Mom fell unconscious while crying and Konan used her paper jutsu to carry mom to her room.

"It's strange to see a 7 year old be this calm after hearing about his father's and sister's death."Konan said after she had put my mom to bed.

"Well, what can I say, Konan-sama. If I broke down in front of mom it would be more painful for her. She's all I have left now and I'll do anything to protect her heart."I replied, sitting down on the floor.

"You're a good boy, Kenshin. You're mature beyond your age. Kana is in good hands. But I have to leave. I'll come back later to check on your mother okay?"Konan said with a gentle smile and hugged me before leaving.

"Goodbye, Konan-sama."I said before closing the door. Once the door was closed, I couldn't control myself anymore and let my tears flow freely, away from everyone's eyes.

"I'm sorry, dad, big sis. I knew that this would happen but I didn't do anything. I'm sorry."
