Chapter 39

As Tessia nestled against me, her head resting on my shoulder, a sudden voice jolted us from our moment.

"So, aren't you guys gonna kiss?"

Startled, I looked up and around, finding no one. Then, I glanced down and there he was—Lucas, squatting right in front of us with a mischievous grin, Sylvie perched on his shoulder with a matching expression.

"What the hell?" I blurted out, surprised.

Tessia let out a terrified scream, quickly pulling away from me.

Lucas burst out laughing. "Hahahaha, you disappoint me, Bro," he teased, standing up from his squatting position. He turned to me with a playful smirk, "Yo, Art, introduce me to my soon-to-be boss."

"Shut up," I muttered, glancing at Tessia, who was now flushed red—whether from anger, embarrassment, or both, I wasn't entirely sure. Sensing the potential for trouble, I introduced them quickly, "Tessia, this is my friend, Lucas Wykes, a soon-to-be student council member."

Tessia's smile turned devilish, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of pity for Lucas. He had no idea what he was getting into.

"Well, hello, sister-in—" Lucas began, but before he could finish, I shoved my palm into his face, pushing him back.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. Continue your date," Lucas said, stepping back with a grin. "I just came here to deliver Sylvie." With that, he waved at us and walked away, leaving me to face Tessia, who was still flustered from the encounter.

Tessia's expression turned serious as she pulled my attention back to her. "You shouldn't be friends with him," she said, her voice laced with concern.

I looked at her, confused. "Why? He seems normal to me."

"It's not about him, it's his family. They're criminals," Tessia insisted.

"That's it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

She nodded, her worry evident. "They're the biggest suspects in the kidnapping of Elves. Those who were freed and returned home said they overheard their captors mention the name 'Wykes.'"

"Nothing else?" I pressed, and she nodded again.

"This isn't enough proof that they're the ones responsible," I argued, but Tessia countered quickly.

"But that Lucas guy is also a half-elf. That just makes it more suspicious," she said, her voice rising with emotion.

Getting fed up with the direction of the conversation, I spoke a bit more sternly than I intended, "Let's just leave this talk."

I noticed the change in her expression; her face fell, likely because of my harsher tone. Softening, I stood up and extended my hand to her. "Let's go for a walk. I want to talk with you."

Knock, knock. The sound of knuckles rapping against the door drifted through my half-conscious mind. I was still in that delicious, drowsy state, reluctant to leave the comfort of my bed. "Jamie, check who it is?" I mumbled, barely lifting my head. Silence. The knocking continued, persistent.

"Jamie!" I called again, a bit louder this time, but still, there was no response. The knocking continued, relentless.

With a sigh, I mustered the courage to move, dragging my heavy body out of bed. My muscles protested, clinging to the remnants of sleep. As I stumbled toward the door, still half-asleep, I muttered, "Who is it?"

I opened the door to find a familiar face: Arthur, standing there with his auburn hair and a faintly amused expression.

"Yo, Art, what's up?" I asked, my voice slurred from sleep, yawning like a cow.

"Don't you want to go to the Student Council meeting today?" Arthur asked, his eyes narrowing at me.

"Nah, I'll go tomorrow. Not in the mood today," I replied, deciding I'd just see how things played out for now.

"You sure?" Arthur pressed, his tone almost concerned.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure," I said, finally managing to open my eyes fully. That's when I noticed his attire.

"What's up with your outfit?" I asked, taking in his completely black uniform. "This is the Disciplinary Committee uniform, right?"

He nodded, and I couldn't resist a chuckle. "I knew you'd eventually become an edgy kid."

"Yeah, yeah, go to sleep now, Dumbo," Arthur retorted, rolling his eyes as he turned to leave.

As soon as he was gone, I closed the door and flopped back onto my bed, ready to dive back into the sweet embrace of sleep.

"God Bless America." Lucas exclaims in bewilderment, his eyes locked on the white-haired girl sitting just two desks away.

The classroom, which had been buzzing with the usual chatter, now felt charged with something different—a curiosity that had taken hold of Lucas and wouldn't let go.

Beside him, Jamie was flipping through his notebook absentmindedly, unaware of Lucas's internal turmoil. Arthur and Elijah, seated just in front of them, were discussing the effects of Arthur becoming the DC Officer, when they felt Lucas's nagging touch on their shoulders.

"Hey, hey," Lucas whispered urgently, leaning in closer to them. "Keep an eye on the girl with the white hair."

Arthur, raising an eyebrow, asked, "What? Did you fall for her or something?"

Lucas nodded, his expression dead serious. "Something like that."

Arthur followed Lucas's gaze to the girl. Her white hair shimmered under the classroom lights, cascading right above her shoulders.

She had a delicate, with a mature build that turned heads for reasons most wouldn't openly admit.

The curves and lines of her form were perfectly balanced—graceful yet striking, the kind of presence that made people look twice.

*She sure has the face,* Arthur thought, studying her more closely. The girl's refined features, coupled with an air of quiet confidence, explained the spell she seemed to have cast over Lucas.

*This sure explains why he fell for her,* Arthur mused, glancing back at Lucas, who was still staring, almost as if in a trance his face neutral while his hairs completely red.

Although Lucas hadn't said the words outright, Arthur could already tell what was going on in his friend's mind.

The girl in question glanced over, her gaze lingering on Lucas. For a moment, their eyes locked, and the world seemed to narrow down to just the two of them.

In that brief exchange, something unspoken passed between them—a silent happiness that neither could quite explain.

Her face, initially calm and composed, flushed a deep red in an instant. Embarrassed, she quickly turned her attention back to the book in her hands, pretending to read.

Arthur couldn't help but smirk to himself. *Looks like the feeling is mutual,* he thought, observing the girl's reaction.

He turned back to Lucas, who was still staring at her, completely lost in his own world.

"Oye, stop staring so long; you'll look like a freak," Arthur muttered, shaking Lucas out of his trance.

Lucas blinked, realizing how long he'd been gazing at her. With a sheepish grin, he tore his eyes away and looked forward just as the teacher entered the classroom, the usual chatter fading into a hush as the lesson began.

But Arthur could tell Lucas's thoughts were still on the white-haired girl, just as hers might have been on him.

The lecture began, but Arthur couldn't help but notice how often Lucas's eyes drifted toward the white-haired girl. He lost count of how many times it happened. Concerned, Arthur mentally instructed Sylvie to keep an eye on Lucas—love-struck people were known to do impulsive, and sometimes reckless, things.

When the class ended, the white-haired girl quickly left the room, her friend with fiery phoenix-red hair following closely behind. As she passed by, her gaze landed on them, a cold, almost disdainful look in her eyes.

Arthur frowned slightly. *What's her problem?* he wondered, but the thought was fleeting as they turned their attention to Jamie, who was still somewhat of a mystery.

Jamie Triscan, Lucas's roommate, was a striking figure with delicate, almost feminine features—a testament to his Elven heritage. His white hair, tinged with silver, and his vibrant green eyes.

He had a slight build, typical for an elf, and wore the Battle Mage uniform, just like Elijah.

Curious, Elijah nudged Lucas and asked, "So, who's he?"

Lucas casually replied, "This is my roommate, Jamie Triscan."

The surname struck a chord in Arthur's memory, though he couldn't quite place it. He narrowed his eyes at Jamie, trying to recall where he'd heard it before. Jamie, noticing Arthur's scrutiny, met his gaze with a warm smile, seemingly unbothered by the suspicion.

Arthur introduced himself formally, although there was a hint of reservation in his tone. Elijah had already exchanged pleasantries with Jamie.

"Nice to meet you, Arthur," Jamie responded, his voice as soft as his features. "I've heard a lot about you from Lucas." Lucas chimed denying his claim, "I didn't told anything."

Arthur gave a nod, still slightly on edge. *There's something about this guy…* he thought. But for now, he decided to keep his suspicions to himself, at least until he could figure out where he'd heard the name 'Triscan' before.
