Reborn as a Paladin in a Fantasy World DROPPPED

Alexandra is no fool, not the type to be self-righteous or blame others for their decisions, but she is what many would consider a fool. She is the type who would save someone else, even if she had to pay dearly for it. Many would consider it cringe, foolish, and dumb -She was told about the hero syndrome more times than she could count. She never really cared however, someone had to do the right thing, even if others wouldn't, people like her were what society relied on to form, and it is them it needs to function. She met many people, friends and enemies alike, and by the end of her short mortal life, she was satisfied with the good she had done in the world. In return for her great deeds and sacrifices, she died a peaceful death at the age of 18, exactly a month after her birthday. Her heart problems cut her life short much to the dismay of her loving family. It seemed however that her adventures were not over yet, as another world needed her aid. She didn't know how or why, but as her soul left her body, she could feel the pleas and cries of hundreds of thousands, shouting into the ether for aid. Perhaps God had a plan, maybe God is evil, Alexandra did not care, for her mission was clear. She will protect and provide for the weak, she will fight evil no matter how vile it is, and for as long as she can, she will ensure that good triumphs. It's arrogant, it's self-righteous, but that is simply who she is. ------------------ Disturbing content is in this novel or is heavily hinted at, reader discretion is advised. A prophecy fullfiled

I looked at the goblins, who had grown larger and stronger, and gulped in fear.

They completely ignored me, all staring at the sky in a mesmerized way, like they were looking at something beautiful, so much so that they couldn't comprehend it.

I didn't bother looking, instead, I slowly started to walk away from the encirclement.

The leaves and twigs on the ground didn't make it particularly easy, and soon enough a loud crack could be heard as I stepped on a large twig.

The goblins blinked a few times, almost as if trying to shake off whatever they saw.

I heard them all scream as they realized I was already tens of meters away, running for my life.

Good, I managed to get some space between us.

I weaved through the trees, using them as cover against the goblin archers, earning a few frustrated shouts as a reward.

And I wasn't poisoned, but that's not as important as simply pissing them off.

It's not as satisfying at least.

As I ran, I looked behind me to see the goblins catching up, some of them jumping on top of the trees.

At this point, the sun started to fall, and I couldn't help but notice the goblins grow a bit nervous.

Could it be they don't have night vision? In that case, I just need to hold on until it gets dark!

With some hope now, I kept running through the forest, ducking as arrows were fired at me.

Man, a helmet would sure be useful right about now.

This chase kept going for another hour, with the sun dipping further and further below the horizon.

I managed to successfully run from the goblins thanks to the increasingly darker forest, though I had to hide my halo, noticeably lowering my strength.

It's a small sacrifice to make though, since the goblin patrols were now in groups of three and were carrying torches, actively searching for me.

Needless to say, I didn't make a fire, since that would be begging for attention from the goblins, but I couldn't run away either, since there were constantly groups of goblins searching the nearby plains and the forest edge.

In other, simpler words, I was stuck in the forest.

But I couldn't just stay here either, I needed to find a place to hide, and a damn good one too since the goblins would most likely send out trackers to look for me in the morning.

So I carefully traversed the forest, not forgetting to cover the tracks behind me, until just when the sun started to peek over the horizon I managed to find a cave.

I immediately walked inside after taking some twigs and setting one of them on fire, making a makeshift torch.

I walked deeper into the cave. Some primitive paintings, like that of cavemen, decorated the walls, showing a hand of stars reaching down towards what I recognized to be this planet.

...How did cavemen know what their planet looks like? How did they know it's a sphere?

The answer to my question was discovered soon enough when I saw words written on the wall in a language I didn't recognize.

...Welp. That's a mystery I will never solve I guess

I continued walking, the paintings seemingly covering the history of some great battle against the previously mentioned cosmic hand, races like humans, elves, dwarves, and others all uniting in a great effort to fight off some corrupted legions and creatures.

The last image was that of a woman coming down from the stars, falling directly onto an unconscious body in the middle of the woods.

I wish I could say she was beautiful, but these paintings are ancient-looking, any detail they once held is long gone.

So it looks like a vaguely humanoid shape with a vaguely feminine figure.

I shrugged, not thinking much of this aside from it being mildly interesting.

I turned my torch away from the painting and toward the rest of the cave.

Now in front of me stood a small open chamber, with a stone pedestal in the middle with a sword placed on it. (See sword on the book cover.)

Now, call me paranoid, but this is the most trap-looking room I've ever seen, at this rate, a big stone will try to crush me if I take it.

Still, I'm not stupid, the sword is clearly the same as in that ancient story, and a powerful weapon sounds exactly like something I need.

I carefully stepped into the room, constantly checking for anything that could trigger a trap of any kind.

Nothing happened as I stepped up to the pedestal, which had more writing all over it.

I pulled out my shortsword, then, with one swift motion, I replaced the legendary sword with a regular old shortsword.

I closed my eyes, anticipating something to happen, an explosion, a rain of arrows, but nothing came.

Instead, a pulse of power came from the weapon now in my hands.

Its golden handle mixed with a black material fit perfectly into my hands, a blue gem was embedded in the crossguard, and more blue material around it gave the sword a beautiful look, while the sharp steel edges of it would be no doubt of great help.

Nice, this thing looks way better than the ordinary shortsword.

With my new weapon, I happily walked back up the cave, now with my halo being my only source of light.

My stomach growled in protest, a painful reminder I hadn't eaten in a day.

Hahhh... I miss fast food...

-x-x-x-

As the lady made her way through the cave, the intricacies of the words in front of her went unappreciated as she failed to understand them.

As she turned away from the text, they glowed a dull yellow for a few seconds before turning back to normal, this happened to each text all the way up to the final one.

In the chamber, the following words were written:

"O' great one, save us from our doom, as our world is encroached upon by darkness and the great hand spins its weaves to manipulate the monsters that try to hunt us, we beg for aid from you, O' noble soul. As prophesied, only you may save our world, only you may find this chamber, and only you shall lift this sword."

So, the lady, not even realizing the prophecy she is unwittingly a part of, picked up the weapon with ease, and walked away while thinking about fast food, particularly burgers and french fries.

Yup, this world is doomed.
