"Are you absolutely sure you're the Demon Lord?
Volume -1
Chapter 0: Prologue
Huh? I'm dying again? How many times is this now? Four, huh! I must be addicted to dying, huh? Hahaha!
Once again, I die as a virgin. No experience, no love, no real friendships. Well, I guess it's my fault.
It all started when I was 15 years old in my first life. The school bell rang, and all the students were ready to go home. My best friend Leo asked, "Want to go to karaoke today?"
I'm terrible with people, they make me nervous. If I went with him, I would've just ruined everyone's fun. "No, I have some work to do. You go and have fun," I replied.
He tried to convince me, but he also knew the truth, so he stopped pressuring me. After he left, I picked up my bag and got ready to go home.
Today, for some reason, I felt off. Hey, why is she running like that? If she keeps running like that, she'll end up getting hurt. I should stop her. For some reason, I started running with her. I had to say something, "Excuse me! Stop or you'll get hurt." She turned her head and saw me running alongside her. She stopped, confused. "What did you say?" she asked.
Oh, I'm exhausted. I've never run like that before. "Uh, if you keep running like that, you'll get hurt or there might be an accident," I said.
She blushed a little, but she composed herself and said, "Actually, I'm running late for work. Today is a big day; we're having a big sale, so I have to hurry or I'll cause trouble for others."
She was pretty and cute, and she had a big... I mean, she seemed pretty mature. I can't believe I'm actually talking to her.
"I'll be careful. Thank you for your concern, and sorry for the trouble. Bye," she said and started running again. Boing, boing!
Wait, there's a car coming this way. If she keeps running like that, the car will hit her. What should I do? It's my fault, of course. If I didn't stop her, she wouldn't be in this situation. Without realizing it, I just knew one thing: I had to push her, and I did. I pushed her. Is she okay? I hear something? Is someone crying? Why is everything so dark? Yes, I got hit by a car.
I'm glad I could help someone, even just once. But I don't feel any pain. I guess it's because I'm going to die.
I hear a pretty and sad voice. She's crying. Don't cry. I'm glad you're okay. I want to say that, but I can only ask her one question: What is your name? "Sara," she mumbled.
"I'm sorry. Because of me, you got hurt so badly," she said, but I couldn't hear her. She was crying so loudly. Don't cry. Just don't run like that. Aggg... I can't even finish my sentence. Everything is so peaceful here.
And I die for the very first time!
Chapter 1: I die four times, then I become a Demon... Really?
For my second life, I was very cheerful. I talked to everyone, and everyone talked to me. I was from a duke's family, so I didn't face many troubles. But one thing I don't really remember is my previous life or how I died. But I know for sure that I was reincarnated. It just feels that way, if I may say so. On my eighth birthday, my father hosted a big party. I was really happy because all my friends were coming, especially Lusi, my neighbor. I really liked her. "Happy birthday," she said with a sweet smile. Thank you. I really enjoyed spending time with her. I cut the cake and prepared a special plate just for her. She stood in the middle of the room right under the chandelier.
And then? I suddenly noticed that the chandelier was about to fall. Is she going to die? Lusi! I shouted and ran towards her. Ha ha ha, just like last time. I remember everything: about Sara, about my last accident.
Well, I guess someone is trying to kill me because I cut the cake under the chandelier. But I guess, for some reason, the chandelier fell a little bit later. But I'm glad I saved her.
She's crying, and my mother and father are both crying. I wanted to see their faces one last time, but I couldn't. The chandelier fell onto my head, onto my face. I wanted to say goodbye. I wanted to say...
And I died.
My second death. So tragic, right? You know what? I reincarnated in the past, 1000 years before my first life. So, am I reincarnating again or just being banished?
Of course, I reincarnated.
This time, I was born as an elf, into the lord's family of a village. It seems that every time I die, I get promoted. Haha, I know it's not funny! I guess I'm the one building my own personality because this time, I'm so cold, not in a bad way, of course.
I'm just not talking to others. Nothing makes me happy. Something is missing. "Dinner is ready, my lord," a maid said to me. And when I turned her way to say "okay," she ran away. Really, that's scary.
I learned magic from a local church. Not just me, but all the nobles also learned there.
Today was a training exercise in the forest. We formed teams, and the minimum requirement was two students per group. I'm screwed!
"Want to team up with me, my lord?" Someone said from behind me, with a soft and fearful voice. I turned around, and wow, it was Houkie. He's an irregular, not from a noble or anything. He got accepted because of his talent.
What good timing. "Okay, if you want," I said. He looked happy and said, "Thank you."
I'm the one who should be thanking him. Well, it's too late to tell him. What am I doing with my cold personality?
Ahh, he likes me too. No one else wanted to team up with him either. That's why he said, "Thank you."
"You know the basics of the test, right?" I asked him. "Yes," he replied, with an anxious tone.
You don't have to fear me! Listen, it's fine. "Okay, my lord," he replied, still worried and fearful.
You don't have to call me lord. Just call me by my name. We're fellow students, right?
"But my lord..."
Again? I said it with my first ever fake smile. That was stupid.
"Okay, if you say
so."
He doesn't look as depressed as before. Good.
After that, all the teams went into the forest. In our team, one more student joined us. His name was Bruse. He was a nice guy, and he didn't seem ranked to be teamed up with. Our team had only three students, while the others had more than five per group.
We had to kill a beast each to pass the exam. Basically, we didn't go too deep into the forest, so we weren't too worried about encountering a big beast.
But then I sensed something. A very strong and ominous aura was coming our way.
"Everyone, get ready for battle!" I said a bit too loudly.
Three heads with big bodies and disgusting looks—wolf-sins. But why are they here? They're supposed to stay deep in the forest.
"Firebomb!" Bruse cast a spell and attacked the beast.
"Anima-water blade!" Houkie cast his spell too.
What should I cast? Fire magic or maybe water? Wait, the beast is coming towards me. Why is it targeting me?
What should I do? I'm so panicked. Stay calm. They told me to move and cast a spell.
Yes, I have to cast the spell "Deep Cutter."
Yes, I managed to cut off one of its hands. But it's not stopping.
I started running, and what do you know, I'm on the edge of a cliff. If I fall, I'm dead for sure.
"Fire shot!" "Water blade!" They continuously cast magic, so why is the beast still after me? It's just about to attack me. I'm going to die for sure.
Suddenly, I felt someone push me. It was Houkie. The beast attacked him and cut off one of his hands. He was badly hurt. Why? Why does everything always end up like this? Why do others get hurt because of me?
"Sprite summoning!" I summoned a sprite, something I've never done before. "Kill the beast," I ordered the fire sprite.
The sprite managed to kill the beast. Those two were really surprised because sprite summoning is a high-level magic, and rarely anyone manages to do it.
Just as I was about to relax, the cliff cracked. It was about to collapse. "Houkie, move! Get out of there!" I shouted.
He was badly injured and couldn't move on his own. I had to help him. He helped me before and lost his arm because of it.
I started running towards him, and Bruse also ran to help. The cliff was about to fall, and we didn't have much time.
"Air swift!" I cast the spell, an air push spell. I pushed him towards a solid surface, and Bruse managed to catch him. But...
Yes, because I used that spell, I also pushed myself. Ha, I fell. I just heard one voice, "My lord."
I fell headfirst and died instantly.
That was my third death.
And now, my current life. Just like before, I got promoted. Ha-ha, I'm from the royal family this time.
A few years ago, before my birth, the hero killed the last Demon Lord. Everyone was so happy.
Because I'm a prince, everyone treats me formally. And whenever I get close to any ladies, they cling to me. Don't get the wrong idea; I'm not a pervert or anything. I just like to tease others, especially ladies.
Every day, I train with a master swordsman. I've really become skilled in swordsmanship.
A few days after my 12th birthday, I received my first job as a prince. I had to go to Resoniya, a monster town, to investigate and see what's currently happening there. If I spotted any threats, I had to eliminate them.
I don't really like that—killing others, even if they're demons or monsters.
And now, not every demon is bad. Some of them have a great relationship with us. They have their own intelligence, just like us, but they're much stronger and live much longer. On the other hand, monsters lack intelligence and are a threat to both us and demons.
Not all monsters are harmful or lacking in intelligence, but most of them are dangerous.
While scouting, I met someone. She was a monster, weak and humanoid.
"Stay away from her, my lord. She's dangerous," my guard told me.
But she was so weak, I couldn't even sense any ether aura. She was scared and crying.
"It's okay," I said as I approached her.
"You're hurt? Are you running away from someone?" I asked her.
"A demon tried to kill me," she said and started crying.
"It's okay, you're safe now."
"But, my lord," my guard asked.
I told him it's okay; she needs help. As a prince, I can't allow myself to walk away.
I took her with me to the refugee camp. After the nurses took care of her, I came to ask her name. She said her name was Aly. What a beautiful name.
"Thank you for helping me," she said.
How cute. I cleared my throat. "So, why did the demon want to kill you, and who was that demon?" I asked her.
She said something that freaked me out.
She said, "The last Demon Lord's death was all a show. He left behind his seed with two people—Aly and a human girl named Sakura. He managed to kill Sakura and collect one of the seeds. For the second seed, he had to kill Aly. Aly only found out the truth a day before the demon tried to kill her. She ran away, but the demon followed her. She fell from a waterfall and
got badly hurt. When she returned to the forest to rest, I found her."
I gathered my army to fight that demon, and I took Aly with me. She recognized the demon.
After we went deep into the forest, something came.
"That's him!" she shouted loudly, fear evident in her voice.
"Attack, kill him!"
He was very strong. Only a few of us are still alive.
"Haha, you can't kill me. Not even a hero can do that. If you hand over that girl to me, I'll spare your life," the demon said.
"Over my dead body." I started attacking him with everything I had, but he was too strong. He captured me and tried to break my neck.
"Please, spare him. I'll go with you," Aly begged for my life.
Not like this. Even if I saved her today, the demon killed everyone.
Just a bit, that demon let his guard down, and I managed to stab him in the heart.
"You let your guard down, you bastard."
With rage, the demon cursed me and broke my neck.
"North!" Aly cried and tried to free me from the demon.
With my last breath, I cast a sacrifice spell. That spell killed any demon, no matter how powerful. If I directed the spell into his heart, and I did—I cut his heart when I stabbed him.
He died and disappeared immediately.
Aly put my head on her lap and cried.
The best pillow I've ever had. I slept peacefully for eternity.
And I died again. Huh, that was the fourth time I died.
A white light appeared, and everything became too bright. I couldn't see anything. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, I was taking a nap.
"He's opening his eyes!" she exclaimed, overjoyed.
"Hey, are you okay?" she asked me.
Who are you? Where am I?
"You're in The Cardin. I'm Elisabeth, and I found you in this forest. Are you okay?" she casually asked me.
"Yes, I guess," I replied.
"You're a demon, right?"
"What did you say? A demon?" I asked her.
"Yes, looks like it to me."
What? I remember fighting with demons. Wait, I remember everything from my first death, even how I died. What?
"Don't know. I just can't remember myself," I told her.
"It's okay, you don't have to worry. I'm also a demon. Come with me. Can you walk?"
Yes, I'm fine.
I'm a demon? This time, I guess I got demoted. I guess God is really mad at me for dying so many times. But for some reason, I remember my past. Who is she? Anyway, I have to learn about myself first.
I died four times and was born as a demon. Now what?"
