Chapter 56: Robert's Rebellion: Tower of Joy

(1,200 words)

- Percival Bolton POV -

- Kingsgrave - Dorne - Westeros - 283 AD -

I had already arrived at Kingsgrave with a small army of 100 men. I drew some attention, but I wasn't going to risk anything less considering that Ser Arthur Dayne, Ser Oswell Whent and Ser Gerold Hightower, all members of Kingsguard, were protecting Lyanna here.

Ned Stark should be busy at Kingslanding right now negotiating the surrender of the Tyrells to lift the siege. If there are any people left alive. Assuming the cannibals are considered people of course.

But the thing is, he should be here in a matter of weeks or even a month. So Jon Snow hasn't been born yet... I must tie up all the loose ends to prepare my crown.

"Here we are" I muttered as I looked at the tower in front of me. It was at the top of a hill. Bronze colored bricks, slightly deteriorated. With two men guarding the entrance. I guess they must take turns taking turns since there are only three soldiers plus the maid who will help Lyanna give birth. The guys were Oswell Whent and Gerold Hightower.

"My lord, what are your orders?" asked Sandor Clegane beside me.

"Prepare the archers. I want to finish them off without casualties" I replied. I would like to put the men under my command, but things like hypnotism depend on a person's will to work. That's fine against Mobs from The Vale or The Reach, but not with Kingsguard.

I also drew my bow along with two arrows. We were quite far away so they hadn't noticed us. The other arrows were more for intimidation and attacking the tower. I was there to make an accurate shot.

I gave the order to fire, and all the arrows flew into the air as my shots were aimed directly at the two Kingsguard. Today the last male Targaryen would die as my name was Percival Bolton, who in the future would take the Iron Throne, ruling it for all eternity.

- Arthur Dayne POV -

I was resting, though still nervous. Rhaegar was dead, and we were hiding in this place to protect Lady Lyanna.

Although resting is perhaps too big a word. For I was constantly looking out the window with nervousness. And for that very reason I could notice the rain of arrows heading our way.

"Take cover!" I shouted as I lifted a table and covered the tower window. Thus catching an arrow or two.

"Ah!" shouted the maids as they fell to the ground.

"No..." whispered Lyanna sadly. "My child... Please protect him Ser Arthur" Lyanna Stark said to me with sadness and mostly fear in her voice. She had already lost Rhaegar, I could not let her lose her son.

"Calm my Lady, no one will trespass this place!" I told her with determination. I wanted to see the state of Ser Oswell and Ser Gerold, but they were most likely injured.

"Thank you Ser" she murmured in a weak and fearful tone.

"Ser Gerold!" I shouted, still covered trying to get the Lord Commander's attention. But there was no response, so I have to assume they are dead.

From the hail of arrows, there must be at least 30 archer soldiers, and there must be more melee. Obviously I couldn't defeat them in an open field, but if I wait for them inside this place, it wouldn't be a problem to stop them. I have to resist!

"Knock, knock" I heard a voice as I pointed my swords at the door.

"Stand down or suffer the consequences!" I shouted as I clenched my swords tightly. I wish I had Dawn right now.

"Come on Ser Arthur, I don't want to kill you. Your sister will be sad," a familiar voice said to me. And my eyes widened as I knew who he was talking to.

"Percival Bolton! What are you doing here?" I shouted at him.

"What am I doing? Isn't it obvious? I'm taking down the last Targaryen man," he said in a mocking voice, and I tightened my grip on the handle of my sword even more angrily.

"But why? What's in it for you? Can't you leave Rhaegar's son alone?"

"Hahahahaha. No, I can't. I have to secure the Iron Throne," he said, and I frowned deeply. I can't believe how I let my sister stay with that greedy bastard.

"Bastard! Let's go in and fight like men!" I shouted.

"Like men? The bow is just as valid as the sword. If you say you are not dishonoring the memory of your king."

"What do you mean?" I asked with a frown.

"Well... Rhaegar died for my bow" he told me, and my face started to turn red. But I had to calm myself to control myself from walking out of here. That would mean death for everyone.

"I will not fall for your provocations, and since you are a coward you will not come in here. Only time will tell the result" I said to him already calmer.

"In that you are right... I'm a coward, and I'm not going to have the pleasure of using your own sword to kill you. But... Cowards have their methods" he said, and my senses alerted me. "Burn the tower" he ordered, and my eyes widened at this damned bastard. Even having 50 men he doesn't want to face me.

"Coward!" I shouted trying to provoke him, but he did nothing. He is not a proud man. There is only greed in him.

At the smell of smoke coming out, I had to go out the door with both swords trying to kill the bastard, but looking in front of me, I could only find dozens of archers aiming at the door.

"See you later" he said smiling at me, and a hail of arrows ended my vision.

- Percival Bolton POV -

"It's a pity... That the best swordsman in the world should die this way..." I murmured as I looked at the every sight of Arthur Dayne impaled with many arrows.

"Shall we go in?" asked Sandor.

"Yes, but be cautious and kill every maid in sight. They may keep knives in their clothes, so don't be careless. I don't want any casualties" I told them, not only Sandor but all of them. They all nodded and cautiously went inside.

There were five maids, and all lay dead on the floor.

"Sansa!" cried Lyanna as she saw her trusted maid dying in front of her. "Bastards!" she cried with red eyes, and her gaze intensified as she saw me.

"Hello Lyanna" I said smiling.

"You!" she shouted at me with hatred in her eyes.

"It's good to see you again, little she-wolf."

"What are you doing here! What do you want from me?"

"Two things mainly. The first is to thank you" I said, and her face showed confusion. "Thank you for starting this rebellion. With you gone I'm closer to conquering Westeros" I continued, and his eyes widened. "The second thing... Finish off the last Targaryen man."

The first volume will finish soon.
