Using influence

"Will you help me?" Dove asked, dazed. Her father had a doctorate in political science and his specialization was in constitutional laws. He had worked as a constitutional advisor for a couple of years. Then, he worked as a consultant to a national political party that was currently in power. Currently, he was invited by one university to teach the students and he accepted the offer, surprising many people. Andrew Harrison was a name that was famous in the country and him agreeing to teach in a university was a big deal for both the students and the university. 

Many people in his field were not recognised for their talents as not many people get to know about them and their contributions are kept in books only. However, he was lucky enough to be recognised for his talents. He was offered to join a political party but he, who understood power games more than anyone, decided to stay away from it. Being a consultant was enough for him. He might not have earned millions of dollars a month but what he had was enough for him and his daughter. After all, not everyone wants a fancy life. He was one of those who believed that luxury was synonymous to dissatisfaction which would eventually lead to misery. 

"Depends, " Andrew answered his daughter.  

"Politics, dad. I want to study politics, " Dove answered. Her eyes were shining with a unique cunningness that he had never seen before. "If I want to be powerful in the future, I need to study power. I want to work to make a bloody capitalist free country."

Andrew laughed at her answer. The party that he was a consultant to had the ideology similar to what her daughter was seeming to be talking about. As for him? He knew better than to be rigid on one ideology and her daughter would learn too once she studies the subject. 

"Let's go, " Andrew said all of a sudden . 

"Where?" Dove asked in confusion. 

He ruffled her hair and said, "To use your daddy's influence, where else?"

To say she was surprised would be an understatement. Never once did he ever let anyone use his connections to get anything. He was never someone who would ask anyone for anything. Be would rather work hard for it than asking. 

"Happy?" Andrew asked. 

Dove slightly nodded her head. She was overwhelmed by her emotions. She didn't know how to express what she was going through. Her father made her dream come true. When they left that city, he brought her to the university where he was teaching. This University was known for its world-class faculty of political science and International Relations. 

Andrew Harrison had influence here. Actually, he could have helped her in the beginning. He might not be a big businessman with billions in account but he had earned people and connections in life. He merely wanted to see if she was aware of what she was doing. His daughter passed his test and so here they were. As the topper of the college entrance test, it was not difficult for him to get admitted her to this university. 

No, he didn't feel guilty for using the connections. Maybe, he should try testing the people once.
