Chapter 19: Not all inheritances are a blessing

A shadow could be seen zooming in on the Dark Forest going so fast that it appears to vanish from time to time. It only stopped when it left the forest and reached an open plane.

The shadow turns out to be a wolf with furs of incomparable darkness. They are so dark that when the light coming out from the exposed sun shone on them it got sucked instead of refracting.

Surprisingly, this extraordinary noble creature had someone sitting on top of them. On its back, one could see a red-braided Orc taking in the surroundings with a smile etched on its face.

It was Red who just got home from work. Yesterday he spent an entire day leveling to 10 and used the remaining time afterward to complete his 'awakening'.

Contrary to its name though 'awakening' is not an overly holy or complicated process. After the player reached level 10 they could talk to the Village Chief about it and he would make the player choose between the two available professions for the player's race.

For the Orc race, they could choose between fighter or warlock. Fighters boast high damage, decent bursts, and the ability to sustain their health via life steal. Warlocks on the other hand specialized in casting debuffs, crowd control, and damage over time spells (DoT).

In terms of their weakness, fighters lack mobility and they have lower durability than a human knight and a dwarven shield bearer. Warlocks lack the burst needed to end fights quickly and their health is only a little bit higher than sprite mages.

After deciding on their profession, players are given a chance to pick three skills they want for free. Aside from the ones Red picked there were also skills such as [Bludgeoning Strike], [Whirlwind Slash], [Parry], and other skills with varied uses.

"Compared to the outside, living in the Orc's village is torture." Red lamented while feeling pity for the Orcs. The climate in the Dark Forest was so bad that he reckoned a modern man won't survive there for a week without the risk of either dying or losing his sanity.

Taking in fresh air for the first time since the start of the game Red felt invigorated but it was cut short when he saw three humans carrying different types of weapons closing in on him.

They are humans but they are not exactly NPCs rather they are monsters. The explanation given by the game is that these people were either those who have heard of the 'bad deeds' of the Orc and had come to serve justice or descendants of the people that the Orcs invaded under the influence of the demon a thousand years ago.

Either way, they are a pain in the ass for Orcs like him. There are even people in his last life who played as an Orc for quite some time only to later change to another race because they can't get past these busybodies and/or inheritors of their parents-parents-parents-parents-parents grudges.

The one on the lead had a buckler in his left hand while his right hand wields a short sword. He raised his hands to signal his companions to which they comply wordlessly. The ones holding the bow got on the back while the other one with the same equipment as the leader stayed with him at the front.

"We will serve justice for all the lives you monsters took!!"

Red only smiled at their provocation, going down from Andreus he issued a mental command before the wolf pounced on them causing the trio's expression to change. Thankfully, the wolf vanished before it could reach them but before they could wipe the sweat off their forehead the two knights heard a heart-wrenching sound as they turned their heads around to see their comrade turn into a speck of light.

Red stood in the same spot as the Elven archer smirking at the pale-faced duo. He never intended for Andreus to engage this bunch no could he do so as Andreus was a mount and can't be used in combat but these people didn't know that so Red merely capitalized on this knowledge blind spot to catch them off guard.

Now that the enemy that could pose the highest threat was taken care of, it would be much easier to take care of his fellow melee weapon user.
