43 Using Magic

I awoke the following day with my arms wrapped around Yuki. Remembering the previous night brought a smile to me. I snuggled closer to her as I let the sun rays from the window bathe my body, warming me slightly.

"I need to spend a day with Yuki, not in the game before she has to finish her next two months of school." I thought to myself.

I rolled myself out of bed and stretched, enjoying the feeling of my bones popping. I rummaged for some new underwear and headed to the bathroom to shower. I turned on the shower to let it heat up, and while waiting, I brushed my teeth quickly.

I stood under the shower's hot water, letting my worries wash away and my muscles relax. Like any good shower, being under the hot water, I was granted an epiphany. Seeing things from the game would be a reality, I decided to meditate. I used the shower to relax my mind as I tried the same meditation earlier when I was feeling for my mana.

I don't know how long I was in the shower, but the water started to turn cold, so I had to stop and get out. I couldn't ultimately discover my mana, but I could feel something was there. I am guessing it's because our world is just starting to develop magic, so there isn't much of it yet.

Since it was still a bit early, I decided to make a light breakfast for Yuki and me. It didn't take long for the smell of food to wake Yuki and lure her out of the bedroom with its siren call. She was still half asleep as she rubbed her eyes and yawned.

"Morning. Food smells good." Yuki said in between yawns. She then sat at the table as I put breakfast on the table.

"I knew food was the best way to wake you up," I replied while drinking my coffee. I usually drink my coffee black or with a small amount of cream. I don't like to ruin the taste of the coffee itself too much.

"It's Saturday today; hopefully, I will make it to the capital. I thought we could go out and do something together tomorrow, maybe even invite Alex with us. I still need to fill her in with everything going on." I said while enjoying my bacon and egg sandwich.

"Sounds fun. But I am still not looking forward to returning to school on Monday." Yuki gloomily replied.

"It won't be that bad. I know you probably wonder why even bother with education if magic is about to be real. But I say better safe than sorry. We don't know how the world will change. Maybe everything will collapse, and our education system will become pointless. Maybe everything stays relatively the same, and there are just some things added in. Maybe they might even teach magic in college at some point." I replied back.

"Yeah, I suppose you're right. I don't see society teaching magic in college until a bit later. It would be stupid to teach it when it is first discovered, and all they can say is, 'uh, yeah, so…magic is real'. But it would be cool to eventually see magic and science merge in schools. At least that's how I see this turning out." Yuki stated while also enjoying her sandwich.

After breakfast, Yuki hopped in the shower, and I wanted to finish this quest, so I got into my pod and logged into the game.

I awoke in the same tent I had before I logged out. I saw that Leena was clinging to me with a goofy smile. On the other side sat a still embarrassed Eri.

"You know you look kind of cute when you're embarrassed. Keep that up, and I might have to kiss you." I said teasingly to Eri.

"I-I. Y-you. W-we…maybe?" Eri stammered before standing up and rushing out of the tent, much to my enjoyment.

I separated Leena from myself and stood up as much as I could, at least. The tent was large, but we still had to crouch a bit. I was getting my gear on when Leena woke up still in all her nude glory.

"Morn'in Gwyn. Last night was fun. We should do that again. That is one thing I miss about our elven homelands, the occasional public orgies." Leena said while sleepily getting dressed.

I almost had to do a spit-take when she said that. "Wait? That's a thing with elves," I asked.

Leen gave me a confused look before she responded. "Yeah…How do you not know this? Were you not raised by elves?"

I didn't know how to respond to her. I didn't know if she would grasp that this was a game world and players' existence, although I suppose it would be all real eventually. So, I decided to tell her a mostly truth. "I was raised by two human parents, so I don't have knowledge of elven culture."

Leena nodded her head as she understood better. "I see. Makes sense now. How old are you then?"

"I am thirty-seven years old, almost thirty-eight," I said as I attached the 100% Totally Normal Sword to my waist.

"Oh, you are just a youngling then. We elves age the same as humans until we hit about twenty-five; then, our aging slows down dramatically. While we are considered adults around the same age as humans, elves don't consider one a full adult until they are around one hundred years old. We usually live until we are about eight-hundred years old, but some live to about twelve hundred.

I stared blankly at Leena for a moment before my thoughts caught back up. "Damn, that's a long time. How are you then?" I asked.

"I am currently one-hundred and forty-two years old. So, I am still quite young myself." Leena replied.

I didn't have anything to respond with, so I finished getting ready and left the tent. Outside I saw several players surrounding Eri as they asked her questions. Her face was red as she tried to move away from the other players.

A group of other players noticed me, rushed over to me, and bombarded me with questions.

"How was the sex with two NPCs. Was it just like doing it with a real person?"

"How the hell did you convince two NPCs to have a threesome?"

"You damn elf players are all a bunch of perverts. We all know you are some old dude living alone with no life. Why don't you just quit the game, throw away your anime figures and get yourself a real life."

"Fuck off," I said to the person who insulted me. I then used my psionics, threw them to the other side of the road, and rescued Eri from the mob of players. I didn't mind the other questions from the players as they were valid ones, but I wasn't going stand there and be insulted, either.

The other players that saw that backed up a bit in fear and if any of them had thoughts of insulting me, they were most likely squashed.

After answering a few questions and calming down almost everyone, we could finally continue our quest. Even though I didn't want to fight anything, I knew having the other players nearby would help in case of another ambush.

We traveled for about two hours when several players started to shout, alarming the rest of the mob…I mean a group of players. Off to my left, I saw a horde of goblins rush towards us, riding on the giant wolves again.

"Dire riders! To our left!" one player yelled out.

I was still a little angry at the other player, so I decided to take it out on the goblins attacking us. I pulled out my new sword and swung it at a nearby goblin. What I was not expecting, however, was the sword to shoot out a beam of energy and pierce through two goblins at once.

"Holy shit, what kind of skill was that!" A nearby player yelled.

I stared at the sword stupidly as I tried to figure out what had happened. I quickly shook out of my thoughts as an idea came to me. With a grin, I used my psionics and flew into the sky, garnering a commotion from the other players.

While in the air, I swung the sword toward a group of goblins. I watched as the beam left the sword and pierced into a wolf and its rider, killing them both. I saw a flash of movement to my side and narrowly dodged a ball of fire. Locating the source wasn't complicated as the goblin casters dressed in similar garb as tribal shamans. Tapping into the psionic weave again, I lifted the goblin into the air and folded him backward. The scream and sound he elicited made the other players and goblins stop for a moment and flinch. It made me cringe, too, as I don't know why I used that method to kill the creature.

That goblin, however, did give me an idea. I decided to use this time to practice my firebolt spell. One hand was swinging the sword, shooting out small energy beams, and my other hand was going through small motions as I flung balls of fire into the enemy.

The more I used the magic, the more it clicked in my mind, and I saw other possibilities open up with firebolt. I found I could cast it with no hand motions at all, or alternatively, I could cast it with no verbal components. I could even duplicate the spell with a single casting, choosing two different targets at once.

I lost track of time as we battled the small army of goblins, but once it ended, I found I had enjoyed myself immensely.
