Karyan was still deep in thought when the knock came at his door. "Karyan, time for breakfast," called a servant from outside in a mean tone.
He sighed, pushing himself off the bed and heading toward the dining hall.
Victoria was missing from the table, which struck Karyan as odd.
Maiko was there, though, with his usual air of disdain.
He gestured for Karyan and Karlin to sit down at the table. The two brothers exchanged a glance, then did as they were told.
As they started to eat, a maid began to circle Karyan.
She brushed against his shoulder, her touch was there a bit too long, her smile a bit too wide.
Karyan tried to ignore her, focusing on his food, but she was persistent.
Maiko caught sight of the exchange and a smile spread across his face. "Enjoying the attention, Karyan?" he sneered. "Or is it too much for you?"
