Sin stood up, the smile still played at the corners of his mouth. "I'll leave you to your plans, Karyan. Remember, time is precious—use it wisely." With a nod, he walked out of the room, leaving Karyan with Sera.
Karyan turned to the snake. "Let's find you a hiding spot, Sera. You can't be seen here."
Sera slithered down from his arm, her tongue flicked in and out as she looked for a secure place. Karyan quickly found a small space behind a heavy wardrobe where she could stay undetected.
"Stay here, Sera. I'll come back for you," he whispered.
He then left the room, his heart pounding with fear, his chest felt pressured with anticipation.
As he approached Barbara's room, he could hear faint sobs from within. The maids stood guard outside.
"I need to see her," Karyan said.
"No, Master Karyan. Miss Barbara wishes to be alone," one of the maids replied.
"But it's important. Please."
