Go back in time

Cindy was in a deep sleep. Suddenly she heard a voice calling for her. It was the voice of Amy!

"Cindy, wake up! Wake up you lazy-bum! We're gonna be late!"

Cindy imagined she must be dreaming. A vague dream just like that night 2 years ago. But suddenly she remembered that she was pushed off the roof. She was sure she had died. Hence she started mumbling in her sleep.

"I must really be dead, huh? I can hear you very clearly unlike that night, Amy. Damn! Why do I feel so tired even after being dead?" I must have broken a lot of bones.

Cindy opened her eyes slowly and saw Amy sitting in front of her. Her eyes filled with tears as she saw her. Still being half asleep, she hugged Amy as tightly as she could.

"I missed you so much!" Cindy burst into tears.

"What happened to you, you dummy? Still hungover?"

"Ohh I've missed your annoying nagging too! This must be the afterlife. I guess it's good being dead. I can finally be with you."

"You're still drunk, aren't you? Who's dead? What afterlife?" Amy loosened Cindy's tight grip and shook her to sober her up.

Cindy didn't hear what Amy said and looked around the room. It was their old apartment. The apartment they lived in during their college.

"So this is what afterlife looks like?" Cindy was wowed by seeing her old place again. She thought that God had arranged their afterlife according to their old place.

"Everything looks the same! It's so good see it like this."

Cindy got teary again. She grabbed Amy's hands being so apologetic because she couldn't avenge her murder. Rather she got killed by the same jerk too!

"I'm really sorry, Amy! I couldn't do it. I should've been careful about it. I should've gone to the police instead of meeting him that day. Please forgive me."

Amy was dumbfounded by Cindy's words. She thought Cindy must have had a bad dream again as she often did. And that is why she was talking nonsense.

"Are you done? Get up and get ready otherwise you're really gonna go to the afterlife! I'll be personally sending you there!" Amy got angry as Cindy was saying things that did not make any sense.

"Get ready? To go where?" Cindy kept thinking to herself when suddenly she got a very familiar smell. A smell that had sobered her up completely.

"This smell?"

"What? You're acting as if you don't know this smell? Seriously?"

"Of course I know this smell! How could I forget it! It's my most favourite chicken that Mrs. Choi makes! Is she here? Is Mrs. Choi here too?"

Mrs. Choi was Cindy and Amy's housekeeper but more like their mother who lived with them. She treated both the girls like her own daughters and they also treated her like their mother as they both grew up without one. Mrs. Choi had lost her life due to internal bleeding because of the beatings of her drunk husband just when Cindy and Amy were in sophomore year. Though her husband had gotten a 10 years imprisonment but Cindy always believed that he deserved more.

"Mrs. Choi has made our favourite dishes to celebrate our new life as college students and finally being 'adult by age' as she says it. She also made some hangover soup for you. Get up and drink it, go!" Amy informs Cindy as she was getting ready herself.

Hearing that, Cindy got emotional again. With happy tears in her eyes she starts to thank God for making her afterlife so beautiful.

"Thank you so much God for making my death worth it. I can finally be with the people I cared about the most. Most importantly, I can eat as much as want to eat the food Mrs. Choi makes now! I've never so happy in my li..."

Amy started pulling Cindy's ear so tightly that she finally came to her senses, screaming loudly.

"CINDY KLAIRE! Get up from the bed this instant or I'm really gonna kill you if we're late on our first day of college because of your stupid ass nonsense!"

Mrs. Choi came running from the kitchen after hearing Amy's yell.

"What happened to you girls so early in the morning? Have you really started fighting again already?!"

"See Mrs. Choi, this dumbass is spouting nonsense since she woke up. She says that we're all dead and this is the afterlife. I swear, I'm never gonna let her drink again!"

"Aigoo (in her native language) Cindy! You shouldn't say such things, dear. Go get freshened up. I made some hangover soup for you. And your favourite dishes for lunch today." Mrs. Choi tried to get Cindy up from her bed in a gentle voice."

Hearing their conversation and observing the surroundings, Cindy finally realized that something was wrong. She had doubted something in her mind but was unsure of the possibility.

"This…this isn't the afterlife, is it? It's actually you guys! You're alive and so am I!?" Cindy asked Amy with a face full of confusion.

"Of course we're alive! What were you even thinking? Did you really have a bad dream last night?"

"What year is it, Amy?" Cindy asked to clear her doubts and to be sure if what she was thinking was actually true!

"It's 2015, you dumbass! You got so drunk that you forgot the year as well? If you've sobered up now then get up and go get ready. I'll be in the kitchen with Mrs. Choi." Amy left the room saying this to Cindy.

After Amy left the room, Cindy kept thinking to herself as she was completely shocked. At first she couldn't believe but slowly she realized that after being murdered in her last life, God actually gave her a second chance, hence she was reborn in this life again.

"So I really went back in time?! that too, 7 years?!"

Cindy was so grateful as God really listened to her urges at her last moments and gave her the chance to redeem everything. Cindy quickly ran to the kitchen and hugged Amy tightly again, but this time she hugged her out of relief. She hugged Mrs. Choi too.

"I'm gonna protect you guys this time, I promise. I'm never letting you guys go again." Cindy was shivering as she was saying those words. Tears were filled in her eyes. Amy and Mrs. Choi both understood something had happened to Cindy because she had never acted like that before. So they both hugged her back to calm her down.

"We're fine. And we will be fine as long as we're together. Don't worry. Everything's gonna be fine." Amy's word assured Cindy and gave her a peace she had been looking for, for so long.

But as relieved as Cindy was, in her mind, she was also determined to take revenge on the ones that took everything that was precious to her in her last life.

"I swear! Since God has given me a second chance, I'm not gonna spare any of them. I'll take my revenge on every one of them as I protect you from those evil monsters! This time, revenge is born to punish evil!
