11 Patience and Heartbreak

But for now for those thinking one of the rezero girls would be the love interest sadly none of them will be, I was originally planning for a certain green haired mommy to be one of them but I decided against it as I want the actual love part of the story to make sense and not feel rushed. So far now until the second or third world there will be no love interest, I already have everything planned depending on what world is voted on but for now I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

Back at Arlam Village all of no only the children but the villagers were praising Chris for his 'Heroic' act of saving them from the witch cultist, Chris had just gotten back after stacking each cultist body in a pile to be burnt but right now he just focusing on his 'System' Interface as after killing Petelgeue he didn't only get a new soul trait but as well as new purple bar on the side of his vision.

He didn't know what it meant but judging by the color he knew it had something to do with the OVERWRITE button, but right now he couldn't focus on it as he saw Rem, Ram, Emilia, and Beatrice arriving at the village.

Rem and Emilia were looking at him and judging by their looks were definitely worried but seeing how there's barely a scratch on him they sighed in relief, meanwhile Beatrice who saw Chris widened her eyes for just a brief moment before returning to her usual composed expression. While Ram just walked right infront of him before handing him a medium sized bag of coins, he took a peek and saw that they were holy coins.

"Lord Roswaal told me to give this to you as one of your payments for protecting the Mathers territory, and your other payment is that you will be given a single favor from Lord Roswaal"

"Isn't that nice."

Hearing Ram's words about his rewards Chris could only blandly say a few words as he didn't care about what he would receive from Roswaal as he knew the man was planning something but he couldn't say no to free money and a favor from the presumably greatest magician in the land.

He turned towards Rem who was now checking his whole body for injuries while Emilia was still looking at him with worry, she was about to say something but Chris slightly raised his hand stopping her from doing so.

"You don't need to worry about me Lady Emilia."

Hearing Chris call her Lady Emilia would be a normal occasion but now unlike before she felt that something was missing from it and could only feel hurt by his words, but on the other hand Rem finished checking his body for injuries before smiling at him with relief.

"So you defeated all the cultist?"

"Yes and apparently as well as a sin archbishop, but let's not focus on me but why are you all here and not back at the manor?"

Other than being shocked and impress about Chris defeating a sin archbishop they began to explain the reason on why they were at the village, it seems that after Chris went off to fight the cultist one of the villagers went to the manor to inform them of the attack and as if knowing it would happen Roswaal sent all of them to the village with each of them having a task each.

Rem and Emilia were sent to heal any injured while Ram and Beatrice were sent to protect the village, Beatrice originally didn't want to have anything to do with what she called a 'Useless and Doomed village' but after Roswal politely convincing her with a favor she was forced to come to the village.

"S-Seeing how your easily took care of the cultist I'm no longer needed here I suppose!"

As Beatrice began to take her leave she couldn't help but glance towards Chris who only looked at her with curiosity, with a huff she launched off the ground and a se her way towards the manor followed by Ram on foot while Rem and Emilia stayed behind with Chris.

"Hey Rem it's lunch time right?"

After a long lunch cooked by Rem, Chris was now in a field of flowers trying to get used to his new soul trait. He was able to figure out that his new trait was more of a defensive and supportive type trait and he could feel the difference with using it on certain spells, when using a Soul Thread/String with DT it would take a bit of his soul energy but now with using PT(Patience) it didn't take that much.

And strangely he could even slow down anything in his surrounding range albeit just a bit but the closer the target is towards him the slower it gets while the farther it does the less affective this ability was, he realized that despite determination being the strongest soul trait it still lacked in certain area's but with PT he could conserve more energy and in the future he believed that he would be able to slow things down to the point that they would be considered frozen.

"Now let's see what this purple bar is all about."

Chris looked at the purple bar in the left side of his vision before trying to concentrate to check using ACT on it, he stood there standing unmoving for around a minute before a new panel appeared.

Reading the panel Chris could guess what he needed to do he looked around before seeing a brown rabbit hopping around the field of flowers, within what seemed to be an instance he was now holding the rabbit by Its ears. Of course this made the little animal fearful and tried bitting Chris but it's little teeth couldn't even pierce his skin, Chris ignored it's attempts of hurting him and only focused on using ACT to apply his new ability to use.

Soon enough the rabbit began to turn limp and a white cross with a red outline began forming covering its eyes, and Chris could feel his connection with the rabbit so he released his grasp on it letting it fall to the ground. He willed It to hop to the left and it did so he did this a few more times making the rabbit do all sorts of things and he noticed that as time passed the purple bar in the side of his vision was slowly decreasing

Seeing it decrease he tried breaking his connection with the rabbit and soon enough the cross disappeared from its eyes and it now began hopping away from Chris in fear, meanwhile the main cause of its fear finally showed a legitimate true emotion after years of feeling empty with little small burst of emotions here and there that would disappear.

It was ecstasy, ecstasy with his new ability the realization that his goal was getting ever so closer. He couldn't help but crack a smile in his excitement but of course it slowly disappeared as he sensed someone approaching, so he turned to see a familiar face.

"Hello Rem, Do you anything you need from me?"

"U-Uhm I do have something to say to you"

"I'm sorry Rem, but you're not in love with me."

Chris felt pity towards Rem, she was obviously love struck towards him but he couldn't return the feeling. If it was him back when he was reincarnated he would probably say that he loved her, but now it was different he knew the difference between love and lust.

"B-But I am!, I love you Chris!. I know it's only been a few months since we've met but my feelings are true!"

Rem was trying her best not to cry but she couldn't control her tears from escaping and this sight only causes Chris to pity her even more, he hoped that she wouldn't fall for him as in his opinion it was just foolish. So he did something that may cause not only his apst self to go and kill him but as well as almost everyone who knew about the anime/manga.

"I'm sorry Rem but I don't love you."

As the wind picked up causing his coat to flutter and his hair to sway, he looked at Rem with a sad smile while the girl who was now confessing to him had an expression of dread and heartbreak ever so present on her face.

"I love Emilia."

"E-Eh?"

If Rem was trying to not let any of her tears escape from her eyes right now she wasn't even trying anymore as they flowed down from her face, hearing the person you 'Love' confess that they love someone you consider a friend would make you fall into a crying mess. Rem didn't make any sound and stood still as he tears began flowing like a small waterfall but soon enough she coudltn help it and she screamed in grief before finally crying out loud, while Chris who saw this couldn't help but sigh towards her so he did something he knew he would regret.

He walked towards her before giving her a hug, she tried pushing and hitting him away but Chris didn't let go and allowed her to cry on his chest. It was cruel way of comforting someone you just rejected and Chris knew it and even Rem herself knew it as after a few mintues of crying on him she finally calmed down and returned Chris's hug as she still buried her face in his chest an thankfully he wasn't wearing his plate armor as it would have been uncomfortable for her.

"I still love you..."

Even with rejection and grief she still couldn't help but feel love towards the person he considered a hero, but what she didn't know what said hero was just honestly pitying her.
