Chapter 27: A Thief

Subaru laid still trying to think of what to do next. His party members were still sleeping with him continuing to stare at the stable ceiling above him.

'There's too much I don't understand…But if I'm correct…" Subaru rolled to look at Kazuma and Aqua then towards Darkness and Megumin. 'That guy led me in the wrong way. None of them were going to be the traitors. It was Yunyun…'

He sat up cracked his back, stretched then took whatever he needed before heading into town.

'Well first I need to look for Yunyun. Of course I never had a chance to ask where she was, or rather is at this moment so hopefully it doesn't take too long…Then it's whatever that comes after. I can't take this too leisurely, I only have one death left after all. Who knows what'll happen if I die a fourth time.'

Since it was still early morning the streets were rather barren. Only a few adventures and salespersons were out and about. He walked down the main market street and passed the alley in which he had first met Yunyun. He peeled around the corner to see if maybe he'd see her there again but it was the same as the street, barren.

His stomach growled a little and while holding his stomach he looked down as he knew he had very little money to buy food. All of their expenses were already divided up and until Megumin and Darkness finish their first quest of the day there would be no food for them.

As he was looking down he ended up bumping into someone in front of the guild hall.

"Oh, sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going." 'When did I walk this far?'

"Oh it's alright. Didn't feel like you meant any harm anyway."

She had short silver white hair, a teal scarf, a green shirt cover with no actual shirt as she just wore a piece of clothing that covered her boobs, or rather lack of. She looked at Subaru with an investigative look in her eyes.

"C-Can I help you?"

"It's just that I swear I've seen you somewhere…Ah! You have a party with Darkness now right?"

"Hm? Yeah. There's three other members as well."

"How's she doing in your party? I'll admit, as a friend, I'm a little worried to not know her party members at all."

"Yeah, I can understand that. We all like her and it seems everyone in our party has their own little quirks. It feels less like an adventuring party and more like a group of friends just having fun together. I think I actually prefer that more."

"That's good to hear. Just make sure you treat her well."

"Although as of now I feel like I'm the least useful in the party…I have no, ahem, "attack skills". Everyone else is by far more useful then me in those situations."

"Hm…How many skill points do you have?"

"Oh, only a few but I'm not really sure what would actually be useful."

"Well, I'm a thief class so I could probably teach you steal, it's useful for disarming your enemy and can give you the advantage in battle."

"Really?!" 'I could use that if Yunyun and I get back into the murder fight situation to disarm her then!'

Subaru used his skill points to learn the Steal ability. For some reason she was the only person he had met that didn't ask about his mystery skill.

"Then let's see…" She began digging into her pockets. "Try using Steal on this."

She held out a small bag of coins in the palm of her hand and stood back.

"Of course give this back to me after you use it."

"Alright!" He took a deep breath and held out his hand. "Steal." He said it quietly as he thought it fit for what he was about to do.

He felt a weight appear in his hand in it laid a single coin. The bag was still in the thief girl's hand but it at least showed he had somewhat correct aim.

"It takes some practice until you can get truly good at it but that was a good start. This means you've officially learned Steal. Good for you!"

"Thanks. Hopefully this proves to be useful in the future. Oh and I forgot to ask, what's your name?"

"Chris. What about yours?"

"Natsuki Subaru! Nice to meet you."

"Extravagant way of saying your name. Nice to meet you too, Subaru. Well I have to go now! Be sure to watch Darkness for me!"

"I will! Hopefully I'll see you sometime at the guild hall when I'm with her!"

Chris left Subaru standing alone but he felt like he had finally acquired something that will help him majorly in the future.

'Now, it's time to find Yunyun before the cultists do. I hope I can reach her in time.'
