Little History Lesson

"The Demons Shall Perish" Shouted the Court Mage Augustus almost in a hysterical manner. Well anyone would. Firstly because humans, beasts, and demons were warring for far too long. In the beginning, two main groups who were warring against each other were actually humans and beasts. The demons at that time were still a small weak minority that did not have any words when the two giants were talking. It was the opposite. The demons, known for their sturdy bodies and huge stamina reserves, also Omni-eating nature were the best cannon fodder. That was how the world been.

Until one fateful day. The year was 611 of the Star Callendar. That year, ordinary people of the human race were experiencing a drought like never seen before. The wells dried in a week. All crops died because of a lack of water and huge heat. After a month, famine was threatening to kill more than beasts were. The people were scared. Words like "Mommy, I'm hungry" and "Just put up with it for a while, my dear." were heard everywhere. People only need just a little push. Oh, and I should say that in those ages, there wasn't three kingdoms and nine countries. There was one and only Great Haal Empire. So that times emperor's son, Frederick Don Haal was the last push that initiated mayhem later known as Great Revolution. A simple video feed, that was relayed by magic, that shows how the crown prince enjoyed a lavish life, made the people snap.

In less than a day, all villagers, slums inhibitors that didn't have enough water to kill their thirst, grabbed stakes and torches and stormed the capital. Because of the unexpected attack, powerful high-level people were not ready and wasn't able to respond quickly. The beasts kingdom, using that chance, quickly attacked the humans and tried to seize the most powerful treasure- The Mana Lake.

Now more about The Mana Lake. The Mana Lake wasn't actually any kind of lake. It was actually a huge crystal, the size just shy of 5 meters in height and 3 meters in diameter. The reason why it was called The mana lake was before it was always radiating a huge amount of mana, seemingly inexhaustible. There was also a buff for the race that controlled the lake. It made them have huge mana supplies in their bodies. And also the main reason why the human and beast races were pitted against each other. Now back to business. As I was saying, beasts used that human revolution to try and seize the Mana Lake. But they were stupefied. When they arrived at the area where the mana Lake was supposed to be, it wasn't there. Of course, beasts thoughts that humans managed to steal it without Alerting them. So the only option left for them was to attack humans before they manage to use the Mana Lake. So the war continued, but more intense than never before. And when both Humans and Beasts were exhausted from killing each other, they showed up. The Demon race. The supposed trash, cannon fodder. But this time they were different. They numbered tens of thousands. They were furious and bloodthirsty. Both humans and beasts didn't know what's happening. Then it clicked. Maybe, maybe the Mana Lake was with them?

The two rulers, Thorin the BloodBlade and Peacock Hundred-Head knew that it will not end in good. So they almost immediately made an alliance. And so the war between three races begun.

"So you are saying, that demons will perish?"

"Exactly my lord. They will be destroyed from the inside out. The hero, who was summoned as a demon, will infiltrate, and steal The Mana Lake. Which later will be acquired by your own very hands, my King."

"My own very hands, huh? Huhuhu, huehehe, HAHAHA. Finally, finally, the heavens are helping me. Quick, bring the best wine and best meat, tonight we will party.

-Late in Evening, on a balcony-

" Yes, Yes dear. Harder, deeper. Mhhhhhm."

"Huff, huff. Ohh, it's so good"

The sounds of a loving pair could be heard.

But if anyone would have witnessed, they would be so scared that they would shit themselves.

The said couple were actually The Court Mage and second princess Julia Don Haal.

"Oh dear. Now that's the plan is in the move, we just need to wait and everything will fall in m. Our hands."-said Julia.

" Of course, beautiful, and when we will rule the kingdom, no one will stop us in our path."

'Just you wait, you bitch, using me like I am an idiot and can't see that. Heh, when I'll ascend the throne, the first thing I'll do is to urge you all scums.'-thought Augustus.

"Oh. What. Sorry, Julia. There are problems in my workplace and I need to go. I'll see later." Said the mage while faking that he got the telepathic call.

"Goodbye, my love. Be safe"-said Julia in such loving matter, that you think that she's anything but a cute bunny. The Court Mage departed, and left Julia alone on the balcony. The Julia returned to her room, closed doors, windows and pulled out a rectangular metal slab that was ingrained in a strange manner. Then she inserted some mana into the slab and made a report -" This is Julia. And everything is working out perfectly, just as you predicted, my lord"

"Ughhh. I'm tired. Why it's so hard to memorize a simple spell. Ah. Fuck it. As wise sages said: fresh air brings inspiration. I guess I'll go see what's around" after sitting for few hours reading books, where also was included a personal diary of the imp, and finally knowing where he was, I decided to take a breather and look around now as I have a body finally. I exited the dilapidated building trough cracked doors and saw… underwhelming grey mountains that you could see anywhere. But I didn't complain and made my way where was the loudest hubbub. As I was walking, I saw not a low amount of imps varying from green little ones to big red one. There also seemed to be few throne demons, that had horns that resembled a chair. Between them were mixed huge creatures with bulging muscles and bulls head -minotaurs. There also was some lamia and other exotic bullshit. But I tried not to stare at them as best as I can, and made my way towards the cafeteria, as I called it. Oh, and another thing, all the imps that I saw were starting at me like I was some kind of God, even some supposedly higher ranked members in demon society were glancing at me. I thought "Am I really that handsome?".

" Hey, Variant, I haven't seen you around, which squad are you from." asked some guy that looked like guard here. As if guards are doing anything here anyways.

"Me? I'm from squad number fourteen. And why didn't you see me before, it's because of i just recently advanced." I replied in a natural manner. And from where I knew there is a squad fourteen and to become variant you need to advance and not to be one from birth, I knew it from the little imp's diary.

"Hmm, newly advanced huh?"- said the orc looking guy. " heh, Good job. Maybe one day you'll become something else than trash, hahaha".

'God, what a prick' I thought. But on the outside, I replied with a courteous "Yes" and proceeded onwards. It wasn't like I feared that orc. No. Opposite. I despised him. I could have crushed him with a single arm. Supposedly Variants usually are really powerful, sometimes skipping several ranks in power. But it didn't mean that they are invincible. So even though I could crush that Pig-head, I couldn't do that to his five hundred friends. And anyway, I still need to lay low to gather some news to know what's going on and where is safe and where is not.
