Re: As My Heart Grows Cold

How long would it take for one's heart to grow cold due to familiarity? Is it really love if it doesn't last? If a moment lasted for eternity, would people really remain still so?

"Ezzie, I only wanted to confirm something, is that alright?"

Lyn didn't even paid any attention to the big guy, which made him crestfallen. I could understand how he felt though, I also have someone that I currently like and if Esyllt every told me that she was the one that actually got married that day then I don't know what I would do at that point.

"Brian's a nice guy, why don't you accept him?" I pointed towards him with my hand as if presenting something.

"Wh-what? No, it's not that!"

"Then if it's not a confession, then why did you also tried to look for me yesterday?"

"Con-fes-sion!? Oh so that's why! I was wondering why everyone was like... nevermind that. I have a different thing in mind."

She brushed her long hair to the side and put her bag on the doorway before continuing.

"I just wanted to... Take a picture."

Her cheeks slightly blushed as she let out those words from her mouth.

"Why?"

"Why, you ask. Well, let's just say that someone ELSE has taken a liking to you. Not me, of course. But she just wouldn't have the guts to ask you, and it makes sense."

Then she leaned towards my ear and I could smell a faint fragrance from her collar as she tiptoed. I also got distracted from the sight of her chest that I reflexively moved away to not touch her.

"...makes you a wallpaper." that was the only thing I heard when she whispered, before stepping back near the doorway again.

"But why? I'm not that good-looking." I could only frown from her words as I'm not that convinced.

Lyn's face frowned and crossed her arms, putting emphasis on her chest area. After seeing that obscure area, I somehow got hooked and could only look away to not be mistaken as a pervert.

"Are you sure that you're not?"

"Ezzie," Aiden tapped me on the shoulder from behind and started, "you know people all have different tastes, and you really can't say that you're not good-looking just because you don't like how you look like."

"This is...?"

"My name's Aiden, ma'am." Aiden even gave a nod towards her as he introduced himself. Well, looking close, Lyn does look quite pretty.

She has slightly wavy black hair that was slightly turning brown which probably meant that it was a natural hair color. Her eyes are not that small nor big, but it had this depthness that felt like looking at a star within space. Her height wasn't that small, but if there was still a chance at growth then she'd probably be fit for a model.

Usually I see these kinds of girls on cosplay events but they are quite rare because they fit any character well.

"Oi, stop staring." The big guy somehow made an entrance as I contemplated Lyn's looks, and now that there are barely any people left, I want to go home and... try to mend my relationship with Esyllt somehow.

"Fine, take my pic. It's not a problem anyway. If I find out that you've edited me into something not good, just remember that I can do the same."

"Oof. Scary."

"I just don't want any trouble."

She opened her bag and took out a smartphone, then made me strike a few strange poses which felt weird, but it doesn't matter if I could go home instead.

I could just be rude too and reject everything, but I wouldn't want big guy Brian to beat me up, nor those other guys that like this girl. What do I know, maybe she has some kind of fan group in the school or somewhere. Social media is scary, too.

After fifteen minutes or so, the sky was already turning orange, and I was supposed to be home but I don't mind the change of scenery. The way I remembered February 9 wasn't so memorable anyway that I'd remember anything important.

At home, I did my usual routine of checking my friend list to see if there was someone I expected, but sadly no. If I remember correctly, it would only be tomorrow that the first event would occur, and it's not really a major thing or anyway, but it's a flag that I have to make if I plan to be Esyllt's...

"Now that I think about it, she did say she loved me but what am I to her anyway?"

We talked so much in the past days and she didn't even call me anything that was related to a lover or something.

It could be that she was only shy, and refuses to use any words, as I am too.

There's also the chance that his brother might be looking behind her shoulder as she played, and it would be really embarrassing to be lovey dovey with me without privacy.

Now that I've thought about it, I feel like punching that brother of his...

9 PM came, and not really much happened, besides from the character Kyuri that appeared on and off, StarQuincy09 and LittleHunter did not appear once.

Locati kept pming me about yesterday, but that's it. I even told him that I went back through time but he would just brush it off with a snort anyway.

Seeing that there were not much progress today, I decided to call it off and rested instead.

...

Wednesday, February 10th

The morning routine finally changed, and I first went to the bakery before taking a bath. This way I'd be eating the special bread after finishing preparing everything.

School was really just a part of our lives, and I don't really have good memories of my previous years as I felt that most of the people were only side characters... and that's conceited of me to be honest, but I can't help it if I'm almost always stared at with disdain.

This time Moriana was not around, and I felt at peace so I slept for quite a long time before the bell finally rung. Whenever she was around I get a bit conscious and distracted from the way her shoes kept clacking on the ground as she walked from boredom.

The first half of the day was ordinary and I wasn't in the teacher's sniper scope anymore, so I was able to create a diary entry. Of course I listen to the class but whenever ideas pop into my head, I always have my disguised notebook on the side to write a few notes from time to time.

Break time was set once more, and Aiden and I moved our desks.

This time, the big guy Brian also went near us, as he borrowed the nearest seat near us, scaring off another student into eating on the cafeteria instead.

Aiden and I could only look at him with silent surprise, as we didn't expect another buddy to come and join us.

We were the freakest of the freaks, after all. Most of the other students don't even play any kind of video games, and it's just us in this whole classroom. Now that Brian joined, it made me curious as to what he's like. I recently knew anyway that his bad-looking stare aren't actually the eyes of death anyway.

He put out his lunch box and I started.

"I don't like or love Lyn, okay? Just so you know."

"I know. You don't have the same eyes those other boys have, and you actually seem nice."

"Welcome to the country club-----ehem. Gamer's Haven."

"Gamer's... Haven? Pfft..."

His chuckle slowly turned into a laughter and soon, everyone was once staring at us. I don't like the attention, but seeing this guy laugh loudly for the first time actually made me smile and chuckle myself.

"What, he disgraced our guild!"

"It's not everyday we have a new member, Aiden. Maybe you could show him what you have right now?"

"Oh, good point."

He looked left and right and made sure that no one was looking, then slightly lifted up the hem of his pants.

A smartphone was strapped to his leg, and the inspectors were none the wiser.

He does this everyday and doesn't get caught, then goes AFK gaming during break time. He says this way he could better utilize the game stamina or energy. Apparently, all of his runs and grinding require energy which regenerates over time.

"Lean closer man. I trust you won't reveal our small guild's secret."

He turned his smartphone over Brian's direction, and just in time one of his rarest characters started its ultimate skill animation...

I peacefully finished my food as the veteran and the newbie entertained themselves in the game, and I guess tomorrow he would be really another member of our small circle... if it's correct to term it like that.

As usual, classes were normal until the day, and before I could go home, Lyn was once more at the doorway, standing. She was widely smiling from ear to ear, and her being here only meant I'd be delayed going home.

"Sorry, I have something to do to---"

"Wait!" She grabbed my arm and can't help but feel what my arm was sandwiched in between.

I couldn't dare look back, but from the strange softness I felt, it was probably something most men would dream of.

"At least let me give another thanks?"

"But you've given enough yesterday already, what more could I do?"

"You don't know this, but this person that likes you actually treated me to double of what she promised, and this means we go on another feast tomorrow!"

Feast? It must be exaggerated but I'm guessing that she likes food that much for her to be this happy. I glanced back at her and tried not to look below before replying.

"Then, what do you want this time?"

"Eeiiiii!"

She pushed me more forward and I could see Brian and Aiden stretching their necks until we went out of their sight. There were not much people around from the silence in the surroundings, and I could only felt something cold and quickly went away from my cheek.

I glanced towards Lyn at reflex and saw her shiny eyes and slightly red cheeks.

"It's a secret, okay? Don't tell anyone."

She let go and moved towards the nearest staircases and turned back before starting to step down.

"Don't say you don't look good, because for some, you do."

And with that, she happily skipped and flew away from the scene.

"Bro what happened?" Aiden was already there even before she was gone, yet he also hadn't saw what happened.

"I'm not sure. I thought I felt something, but I didn't know what she did."

"Just ask her if she comes back then?" Brian asked.

"Good point."

Hearing it from Brian himself made me guilty.

If I'm not so dense, and from the way she looked before fleeing away, she probably gave a kiss on the cheek.

Whatever am I gonna do?

Strangely, my heart was starting to beat faster after having these thought.

So I slapped myself on the same cheek.
