chapter 9

The whole evening we sat and talked then I called my mum at eight and told her I was sleeping at Shreya's tonight.

"Ok sweety that's fine, can I please talk to Shreya?"

"Uhh sure" I told her then covered the mouth piece "Shreya? Mom wants to talk to you"

"Oh ok" she came to the phone and took it "uhh hello?" They started the talk and I walked back to my friends

"What was that all about?" Blake asked referring to both my mothers talking to each other I looked over at Sherya trying to figure it out but Sherya turned her back to me giving nothing away I sighed then shrugged

"No idea" I told him.

After what felt like hours of wondering what was going on Sherya came back she sat next to me on the couch and patted my leg. I was facing Arimas talking to him about blood and different kinds his favourite was A- that was my blood group. I turned to face Sherya.

"Well what did mum want?" I asked nervously.

"Ooh nosey aren't we?" She smirked I gave her an evil look she put her hands up in surrender motion.

"She just wanted to make sure you go to bed on time and you get up on time that's all" Shreya shrugged I  sighed

"I'm sorry, she's telling you what to do, can't be fun getting told what to do especially when you're an adult" I told her looking at the floor.

"It's fine Ray I'm actually glad" she smiled I just furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, how could she be glad to be told what to do? she smiled even wider probably reading my mind

"It just shows me she cares about you and it proves even more that your father made the right choice when he chose her to be your mum" I cried at that there were so many occasions when she said that to me but I never got tired of hearing it my mum knew what Sherya says and she cries too. I knew what Sherya meant, James could've chosen someone who wouldn't have looked after me properly it could've gone either way. I couldn't have been happier growing up it was brilliant.

The next morning Shreya woke me at seven and I got ready for school after a quick shower, I had breakfast then left for school.

Once there I saw Annie and Andrew talking to Jen great I already lost them as friends now I lose Jen to I tried to look strong by holding my head up high I walked straight past them

"Hey Ray wait up, bye guys," that was Jen I turned to her as she ran towards me "morning" she smiled widely

"Uhh morning" I told her looking towards my two former friends she turned to look too

"Wait you're not going to tell me not to talk to them are you?" she asked me her smile was no longer there

"What" I exclaimed looking back at her "no of course not I'm not five" she sighed

"Good coz you weren't the only one that helped me last year" she reminded me as we walked together to home room, I smiled at her as I put an arm around her shoulder.

After home room we went our separate ways to our separate classes

At lunch as I ate my sandwich I felt someone sit next to me, thinking it was Chloe I turned towards them ready to shout at her but when I turned I saw it was Annie

"Hi, is this seat taken?" She asked as if she was talking to me for the first time she seemed shy I relaxed wanting to know where this was going

"Yeah my invisible friend is sat there" I told her turning back to my food she just laughed lightly I didn't laugh trying to look serious

"Listen, I just wanted to apologise for my behaviour lately, it was uncalled for" I shook my head ready to answer but she stopped me "no Ray let me finish please, I know I've been a horrible friend Andrew and Jen have shown me" I looked at Jen who just smiled apologetically at me then got back to her food "I know I don't deserve for you to ever talk to me again...." I cut her off by turning towards her and hugging her tight as the tears flowed gently I felt someone hug me from behind I knew it was Andrew I just smiled through the tears, I got my friends back this was great, it was funny how that morning I had thought I lost Jen as a friend it turned out I got my friends back instead the day went by quickly and at home time I met with my friends again.

"Hey guys" I said as I met them near the entrance

"Hi Ray" all three chorused we chatted for a while until I saw shreya's car pull up

"Ok guys see you tomorrow" I called as I walked towards the car

"Wait Ray" Annie called holding on to my arm I turned to her with the car door open "we were wondering" she started as she looked at the others who just nodded "if we could come to your new house only for a while" she bent down near the passenger side door looking at Shreya, Shreya just looked at me probably reading my mind to see if I was ok with this after about three seconds she nodded towards me

"That's fine with me guys, hop in" she announced so as I got in the front, the three piled in at the back Jen sat behind me Andrew sat behind Shreya and Annie sat in the middle we talked and laughed all the way home and Shreya had a big smile plastered on her face.

When we got home I saw Mitch and Bella were there I hugged them tight and did introductions, we saw a movie as we ate sandwiches and popcorn halfway through the film Blake, and Arimas turned up after a while Ruby turned up to I was a bit worried that they would spill secrets but they didn't I relaxed after Shreya and I went into the kitchen to get drinks she told me that Blake, Arimas, and Ruby know not to say anything and they know that my friends are human so we talked for hours getting to know one another I thought it would be awkward but it wasn't as Annie and Andrew started telling stories about some of my embarrassing moments as a kid I was dying of embarrassment.

The phone rang at around seven it was my mum

"Hey mum what's up?" I asked as Shreya handed me the phone

"Ray you need to come home now, it's urgent" mum sounded panicked

"Umm ok mum I'll be home soon but mum what's wrong?" I asked concerned

"Just come home I'll tell you when you get here, oh and Ray bring Shreya too this concerns her as well"

"Okaaaaay" I told her when I hung up I told Shreya what mum said "mum wants me home now" I shrugged "and she wants you there too" I added

"Why?" She asked I just shrugged mum never did things like this she felt I should get to know Shreya without disturbance so this was weird "okay go get your things" she walked over to Bella "Bella Ray's mum wants her home, so will you please stay here and keep an eye on our young guests?" by young I knew she meant the mortals

"Uhh yeh sure is everything ok?" Bella asked concerned

"I don't know" Shreya shrugged

"Actually" Annie began getting up as well as Andrew and Jen "we'll leave too, I mean Rays going we might as well go to?" she made it sound like a question and she directed it towards Blake and the others they nodded so with a smile they all walked towards me and we all left the house together Shreya offered them a lift but they declined saying they would walk so we drove off.

"MOM WE'RE HOME" I shouted as I entered the house but I shouldn't have as she was sat in the living room with another man who I had never seen before

"Hi Hun" she said as she stood up "this is Mr Marcus he is your new social worker"

"What, new social worker? what happened to Mr Cooper?" I asked

"Mr Cooper is no longer a social worker, he had to leave due to ... Unforeseen circumstances" mr Marcus said as he shook my hand

"This is Shreya my biological mum" he shook her hand and kissed it

"It's a pleasure" he exclaimed

"Huh I'm sure it is" Shreya said and as soon as he let go of her hand she wiped the back of it on her clothes I glared at her as if to say be nice. She narrowed her eyes at me as if to say make me. We all sat down and I saw mum had already got us some drinks

"So umm, no offence, but why are you here?" I asked

"Oh non taken, I'm sorry I should've said this already, I've taken over some of Peters clients and I decided it would be best to come and see them, you know get introduced, that kind of thing" he nodded

"How long before Peter comes back?" My mum asked

"Oh umm he isn't coming back" he answered we all stared at each other woah he wasn't coming back? Wow I would miss him.

We talked about our circumstances well into the night, and at around eleven he left, mum went to bed too after saying goodnight to Shreya and telling her she was to stay here tonight and under no circumstances was I allowed to let her leave we laughed at that.

"I don't trust him" Shreya said thoughtfully after mum was out of ear shot

"Why?" I asked interested

"I don't know" she shook her head "but I don't like him"

"Shreya you're being paranoid it's only because he's a new person" I told her as I took a cookie.

"No, it's not that I didn't feel like this with Mr Cooper or your mum or you for that matter" she then said thoughtfully "I can't put my finger on it but there's something about him....."

"Well did you read his mind?"

"Yeah, I got nothing"

"Well then see there's nothing to worry about"

"No Ray, I mean I got nothing, as in there was nothing there it was blank"

"How is that possible?"

"I don't know sometimes when a person has their heart broken they put up a wall around their heart that wall goes around their minds too ..... But mr Marcus doesn't seem to be the kind of person to get his heart broken" we thought about this for while

"What else could it be?" I asked he must've had his heart broken

"Well there is one possibility ..... He could be a gild"

"What Shreya that's absurd he isn't a gild"

"How can you be so sure, have you ever met a gild"

"Have you?"

"Yes"

"Does he resemble one?"

"Gild are hard to spot you can't tell just keep your eyes and ears open"

"It doesn't matter anyway, I'm thinking Mr Cooper was never here he only got in contact if he had info. So chances are we wont see much of him" Shreya nodded thoughtfully but didn't say anything else. It got me thinking though, is he a threat?, am I in danger?.
