Part 20 - Chimera 2
Dragongirl flew into the air for a dropkick. Fuck. Same idea as me. Just not as a kick. I jumped onto her back then requested a flier that picked me up and after Chimera was shortly down, recovering from the mild cut Dragongirl caused decently quickly, I let the flier drop me to the next attack of Dragongirl. I fell. I formed my hands into a drill and spun around my own axis. I was basically a drill. Then I closed my eyes and felt the impact into flesh and started to claw around myself, digging into meat and flesh. Then fire shot me into the air and I called for the same flier. I checked his costume quickly. He was simply a blue hawk. That was also his hero name. I felt extremely warm and tried again to drill into the creature but felt a strong hit on my side and was flung towards a building.
Chimeras heads all wanted destruction. Yet while the lion head spat fireballs and what effectively was lava, his goat head crashed anything in its path and it started to cause mayhem further and further away. Dragongirl picked up a few heroes and flew after Chimera. The snakehead spat poison at the heroes racking up more and more deaths. Although poison was the wrong word. It was a strong acid. Liquidizing and dissolving anything it touched until it evaporated, leaving poisonous gas behind. Suddenly what I could only describe as a tornado of fire appeared. "Fuck! Everyone hold onto your asses!" I yelled and clung to Dragongirl leg like everyone else. As if by miracle I didn't catch ablaze. I jumped off and at Chimera. I tried to spin again, not managing to, yet got saved by blue hawk again. Luck was on my side. Chimera stumbled back. It was in a cloud of gas and none dared to near it. The collars went silent as the beast struggled. Then the whole thing blew up. "Fusion injured." The collar stated and who else could it have been? The creature did seem weakened. Unexperienced Heroes charged and seemed to have it focused on defending then I smelled something and pressed the middle button of my collar. "Everyone away! Chimera plans something. As far away as you can! Preferably into the air! Over any building!" My voice echoed through and every flier picked up as many superhumans as they could and brought them over a building. The injured and helpers were inside the bunkers. The low-ranking heroes had refused help and then woosh. Fire swooped across what appeared like all of the modern buildings. They started to fall in on themselves. The collars started to list every single hero and villain that refused help to live. I looked at ruins of the city. I jumped down at Chimera again. Right between the heads. But the black mamba got a bite on me. I stumbled and fell. "Poisoned! Need antidote to keep" I managed to say before I yawned and fell asleep on Chimeras back.
When I woke, I was in the air after, held by blue hawk. I looked around and commanded to be brought to the monster. I saw multiple fire tornados and suddenly was in one and picked up in one. Then I found myself flying. "Blue Hawk deceased." My collar stated in-between anyone else. I was in the air. I pressed the emergency call button. "I am in the air! I need help before I hit the ground and passed!" I yelled into it and a seconds before I hit the ground I was brought back up by a villain. Wings of fire, a dark metal chain around me, a metal whip in their left. "You got the devils luck Ratel!" He yelled and was brought up. "Thanks Yaldabaoth." I said and sighed. "Let's try this again." I said after stating my plan. I was hit to the side by the goats head. I hit the ground and bounced off a few times hard, I screamed, then hit the ruin of a building. I then saw a giant piece of concrete fall onto me. I screamed and everything went dark. No pain, no light, nothing.
The heroes fought and Dragongirl managed to pin every head of chimera down. "Bring down the bolt!" A hero yelled and Dragongirl jumped out the way of a lightning bolt that rushed down on Chimera. The bolt expanded over a large area, getting more heroes and villains caught up in the blast. Chimera was trying to stand up, not managing to. Then Fusion brought a sharp metal piece up to chimeras lionhead. It fell off while Dragongirl cut the snakehead off. Then swordsmastress fell down onto the goat head with her broadsword and cut through the flesh and cut the head off. Chimera fell down, leaving a giant crater in the middle of town. "Did we, do it?" Dragongirl asked and looked at everyone. "I am not fully sure." Fusion said, his voice distorted due to mask and use of multiple powers. "Probably not." Swordsmastress said and flourished her sword and went to cut the body in their middle into pieces. There was nothing in the world that could regenerate from such damage. Then silence. No words spoken. It was cruel. Everyone thought Chimera was about to get up again, thus being on high alert.
Timhi was rushing around to save the injured, the only thing audible were their screams and the running of the accelerator.
"Chimera deceased." The collars stated. Everyone started to head back to the bunker in silence. It was not a march of pride but rather one of shame and guilt. Shame of barely having stopped the destruction and guilt for not having protected the heroes of villains. Their allies, their deeply hated foes. They sat on the empty area where they started after being called into the medical bunker one by one to get looked over.
"These monsters are each difficult to fight. Due to high losses and unfound bodies, we will list every loss and missed person on an obelisk to honor them. They knew this would happen by joining the fight. We mourn those losses with every single one attached to the people behind the masks and costumes." Savethal said to the reporters a few weeks after the event. She stood in front the smooth marble obelisk. Every name was engraved in gold into the white rock. It was placed where the fight started and promoted as a place where the losses were honored. Save asked for new heroes to join and the damages done by chimera went unrepaired and even after 5 years were there. Very seldomly were the corpses of the heroes and villains that fought found. Ratels body wasn't found until 5 years later by a hero following his example.
