Fault

I ran to the cave as i was told, i hid behind a rock and to watch the battle, Menf was fighting a blue drake the same size as him, both looked injured and exhausted, for how much tine i've been out? I look at the sky, it was already at dusk, another explosion got my attention back to the fight.

Menf used his mana to cover his claws as he slashed them at the drake, he evaded to the left and tried to piece Menf on the chest with his tail which was covered by mana as well, Menf used a barrier to block the attack and grabbed the tail as it deflected from the barrier, he slammed the drake on the ground and used his magic to turn the sky pitch black as his body disappeared completly, the drake get up and kept look at in every direction, suddenly he made hundreds of water needles and shot it to his left, the sky cleared again as Menf appeared with a barrier in the local the drake shot, the drake rushed to Menf and tried to bite him, Menf evaded and tried to slash him in the side, but the drake used his bite as a bait and spinned coating his wings and tail to slash Menf, the trees falling as his giant giants wings opened making another clearing on the forest, Menf was cut in his left hind leg when he jumped to evade the attack, the leg was almost ripped of.

Menf:"F*CK!" He cried out in pain, as he used his mana to heal his leg.

Menf used his jump as a thruster and flew as high as he could while the draco followed him, he stopped in midair and closed his eyes to concentrate as the drake continued to approach, Menf opened his eyes and his chest began to expand, the draco realized what he was doing and tried to move away but he was already very close, something started to go up Menf's throat and as it passed the throat expanded, when it reached his mouth Menf opened it and a black beam came out and hit the drake obliterating his head in an instant, the beam went through the head and hit some trees after disappearing, the drake's body fell like a meteor causing the earth to shake, Menf slowly descended but as soon as he reached the ground his legs gave way and he fell on his chest causing the earth to shake again.

I rushed over to Menf, he was worse than i thought, not only his left hind leg was almost ripped but the same eye that had a scar on his smaller body got a scar too, his chest and throat was red due to the beam, the webbing of his wings were torn and one of his hands was broken.

Menf:"Heh, looks like i will match with my smaller body." He gave me a weak smile.

Synn:"What's happening? Where is everyone else?".

Menf:"Everyone is fighting drakes, after you were taken we began to search you, but when we found you this place was full of drakes, this one i killed was an elder drake and the stongest, your family is fighting adults and teen drakes.".

Synn:"And Glyn?".

Menf:"He's problably fighting the one that get you.".

Synn:"He can kill that thing?".

Menf:"He's more than capable, he's my son after all." He said proudly.

Everyone was fighting, because of me, I looked down in a sorrowful manner, because i got close to the forest, even with my mom and Glyn saying that i shouldn't, i felt guilty, I was almost spitting out my heart from how tight my chest was, it was my fault Menf was like this.

Synn:"Sorry." I said weakly.

Menf:"For what?".

Synn:"It's my fault.".

Menf:"It wasn't your fault-".

Synn:"It was!" I said before he could finish "It's my fault you lost an eye! I got too close to the forest even with my mom saying no!" I yelled with tears running down my eyes, the air went cold for a second "If I didn't you wouldn't have been hurt! Everyone wouldn't have to fight." I lowered my voice as my throat tightened until everything I said came out as a wheeze due to the cold air "So don't say its not my fault just because i'm a kid, just because you think i couldn't do anything, but i could, i could have done something, even if it didn't help much, i could, it is my fault.".

Silence fell after it with Menf staring at me with a blank face, i covered me with my wings, minutes passed with neither of us saying a thing, then Menf Broke the silence with a heavy sigh.

Menf:"You're right." I felt a sting on my heart when he said this, but at the same time i felt relieved "It is your fault, but that doesn't mean it's not our fault too.".

Synn:"No, it's only my-".

Menf:"It was." Just like i did to him he said before i could finish "You said i don't have to lie just because you are a kid, but you are a kid wheter you like it or not, and as adult dragons it's our duty to protect you, but we failed and you was captured, you don't have to carry all the fault alone, understand?".

I remained silent thinking about what he said, i still think its only my fault but what he said made me feel light, i can't let this happen again, i can't give them trouble, no more errors, i've decided.

Synn:"Understood." I folded my wings back in and lifted my head up.

Menf:"Good, now let's see how the others are doing.".

Synn:"You are good already?" I looked at his fully recovered leg, only a scar remained.

Menf:"Of course, who do you think i am?" He said stuffing up his chest.

We left the cave and headed north, there were several lights in the sky, we got closer and closer as dozens of drakes on the ground came into my sight, they were surrounding my father as he used vines that came from the ground to wrap the drakes and crush them, the light on the sky was my mother using her fire to burn down countless of drakes and a part of the forest as well, Tay, Lyra and Lon were fighting together, Tay was using wind to slash drakes one by one, Lon was finishing off the drakes that wasn't killed by Tay's wind, Lyra was giving support to Tay with her fire whenever a Drake got too close, Glyn was nowhere to be seen.

Menf:"Cover your ears.".

I did as i was told, he inhalated and then roared like a wild beast, he put a barrier around me and i was covering my ears but even with that i could hear his roar clearly, Everybody stopped and looked at Menf, the drakes began to run to one place, Mother made a giant fireball and threw it at all the drakes leaving a crater in its place, everyone rushed to Menf.

Sena:"Menf! Where is Synn?!".

Menf:"Are you blind? He's right here.".

Sena:"thank godness.".

Menf:"Where's Glyn?".

Bren:"He's at the clearing, lets go back for now.".

Menf:"Yeah, there's a few things i'd like to talk to you two, but lets get back at the city first.".

We flew to the clearing, as we flew a glanced down, everything was destroyed very little few trees were still standing, but the clearing was intact, as soon we got near the clearing Glyn saw us and took off to join, he got to Menf's head and landed, he picked me up and gave me a hug, i was caught off guard.

Glyn:"Sorry." He said already crying "I said i would keep an eye on you but i didn't, you almost died because of me, it was my fault, sorry." From personal experience i knew its better if i don't it wasn't his fault.

Synn:"It's okay." I licked his face "I forgive you.".

He continued to hug me for a few minutes before he dropped me, he cleaned his face and smiled.

Glyn:"Thank you, that won't happen next time, I promise i will protect you.".

Synn:"I'm sure you will." I smiled too.
