CHAPTER 1: FREE EVENING
"Young man, are you sure you want to play this game? It's not an easy one." The captain asked a young man who had just arrived.
"Yeah… and call me Yu." To show how serious he was, he took of his pair of shoes and put on the sports shoe. What was this hard game?...
It was a game the first class idle youths of West City came up with though it wasn't popular. One had to run over a raised field and pick up a ball, then run down the raised grounds, reach the bottom, jump up to hit the highest pole in the field. The winner was determined considering his speed in running up to pick the ball and his ability to hit the higher pole. All the players bet with certain amount and the first three will take the money according to their rank. Of course the winner took more than the rest.
Today, a young man who looked soft and pampered walked into the fields and for the first time the team had a new player. He came in a luxurious car, but it would have made more sense if he came with guards since it was normal for the rich kids to have guards and their own drivers. But he came driving on his own making the team confused.
"You don't look like someone who can even jump!" Willow said looking down on the young man.
"What if I break the record?" Yuvan asked grinning.
"Can you?" the captain sneered. "If you do, you can take all the money and I will call you brother." How could he win? Not even Bern, the city bully managed to hit the highest poll, who does this fragile man think he is?
"Fine… I don't need money but for the sake of respect, you'll call me brother. That's a deal!" Yuvan straightened and stood ready to start.
"Mr. Yu, don't overestimate yourself. This isn't an easy thing. Do you know how many people failed? Most managed to reach the third pole, no one got to the fifth, leave alone the tenth!" the captain said.
"And don't underestimate me!" Yuvan said. "Can we start?"
Everyone looked at each other, laughed and made a high five. They were sure from his looks, he wasn't used to any hard life. But this rich spoilt kids, they were bullies. It already made a difference between them.
The captain blew a whistle and Yuvan ran in a normal speed, a bit slower up the raised ground, took time to grab the ball and slide down. In him, the team had already seen a failure because he wasted precious three minutes. So, if he had to hit the target, even the first pole in time, he had two minutes which was close to impossible. So what if he had to hit the third pole? Well, he can't do that… time isn't on his side.
But the next moment, Yuvan shot into the sky like a god at a speed that was blinding to the eye, and rolled into the air. The team all gasped, even the captain dropped his whistle. They only saw a dot moving. With his speed, they couldn't see his full body.
He didn't hit the third pole, he directly smashed the tenth pole which crushed down as he descended from the other side. The team took time to react.
First, no one has ever gotten even to the fifth pole, secondly, he used less than a minute to do the impossible, third, was that speed human? Fourth, how can one crush such heavy poles in one blow?
Was he even breathing?
"How did I do it? Did I break the records?" Yuvan shocked everyone again by walking over unharmed.
"Mr. Yu… are you fine? I mean, are you hurt?" the captain rubbed his eyes in case they were playing poker at him.
"Come on Captain. Am fine. Now, can you call me brother?" Yuvan asked with a smile.
"I don't believe in miracles. You'll redo that just to be sure I wasn't dreaming." The captain said.
Yuvan didn't bargain, he took the ball and got ready for a second round. Immediately the whistle was blown, the guys were given another shock. He went up the field in less than a second, picked the ball and came down, shot up in a blinding speed and smashed pole number nine, then stabilized in the air and came down.
Less than a second!
"Jesus Christ of Nazareth!" Willow gasped.
"Are you guys sure if we tell Bern there is a new overall lord in this game, he will believe it?" Dave asked walking towards Yuvan. "I guess you're not a normal being."
"Maybe I am, maybe am not." Yuvan said looking at the Captain meaningfully. The captain bowed his head at him.
"Brother!"
"captain!" the crowd of rich kids roared. "You can't do that. You can't bow to a stranger! who amongst you knows him?" the crowd was silent. "You see?"
"I don't need you to tell me what to do." The captain said. "Mr. Yu, can you teach me how you did it?"
"There is not enough time left in my life but am sure I will come back for you." Yuvan started walking away.
The captain's face changed because he knew bowing to a stranger was similar to going against the rest and if Yuvan left him here, he would be bullied.
"Just like that?" Dave ran after Yuvan. "You broke two of our poles. How do you go without paying for the damages?" he asked.
"Didn't I win? Take the money and repair it." Yuvan replied and directly walked to his car.
"Who is this arrogant guy?"
"Captain, are you fit to be our Captain?" Willow asked. "I hereby appoint myself as the new Captain! Willow raised his hands and the crowd roared.
