Liberty is a vampire living on a space station on the edge of civilization, a place where only those avoiding attention from the government tend to land. Libs spends his days working for the gangster who runs the place. He is somewhat content with his lot in life.<br><br>Riordan Dalheart is a Ranger working as a government enforcer, and he's been sent to the furthest reaches of the galaxy on a secret mission. Liberty is immediately suspicious of his motives. Whatever his mission, Rory's presence throws a wrench into the finely-tuned dynamics of the space station, as well as upsets the balance of Liberty's life.<br><br>What is Rory up to and why is he here? Liberty is determined to get to the bottom of this situation ... and so is the gangster he works for.

Chapter 55

“I’m here for you, Blaise, my darling!” Rory yelled as he continued shooting, dodging, and aiming at the enemies all around him. He felt the impact of a bullet burrowing into the armour covering his back. It didn’t go through, so he ignored it.

Blaise threw back her head and whinnied shrilly. He saw Stella sawing through the binding with a long dagger, and a moment later, a stray rope flung into the air as she finished cutting it. Stella ran to the next one, and Rory turned his attention back to his opponents. Some of them had noticed Stella and were trying to shoot at her. Rory brought around his barrels, firing in rapid succession, hardly pausing to aim.

Two ropes cut. Three ropes. Four. The remaining ropes were uncoiling faster as Blaise struggled against them, helping Stella by drawing them tight. Rory started backing up in their direction, still shooting, mostly to keep the remaining guards’ heads down.
